My dream came true when Pho Vietz opened at The Starling. I love Vietnamese food and the only one close to me is Du Viet which I have stopped visiting for a while.
I have read mixed reviews about Pho Vietz and even my brother said the food was just so so when the tried the outlet at Atria. But I just had to taste it for myself to find out if this could be my go to place for Vietnamese cravings.
So one evening, my partner and I visited for our Friday date night. This was our second visit. I did not want anything heavy, so we stuck to just one main meal each with no starters.
My partner does not eat beef and he is very predictable when it comes to Vietnamese.
The chicken all sank to the bottom. |
He had the Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup. Which was what he had the last time. And he also had the same thing at Du Viet. Every time we visited. hah..hah...
I had something more interesting. The Vietnamese Spring Roll Vermicelli. This is some sort of noodle salad which comes with a nice mild dressing.
I thought it was very nice, lots of crunchy raw vegetables with very tasty crispy spring rolls.
I like the food so much that the following week I came on my own for the Sweet Potato Curry Chicken Set.
It looked like a very sumptuous meal. Yum yum!
The side salad was very nice, I wished they had been more generous with it.
I'm sorry, the soup was not good. It had a strong taste, I can't put my finger to it as to what it was. Star anise? And it was sweet. I left it alone after just a sip.
The chicken curry however, was superb. The gravy was thick and flavorsome. My only complaint was that I was given bony pieces and that sort of spoiled my enjoyment.
I think I will come here again since I enjoyed the food.
Never really into Vietnamese but I know the dishes are healthier and they incorporate lots of herbs in their cuisine.
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed interesting spring roll with lots of veggie.
Sweet potato curry?? I never had that before. Must be sweet and slightly spicy?
The curry was very nice and yes, a little bit sweet and nicely spicy.
DeleteThe food sure looks good.
ReplyDeleteVietnamese sure love a lot of veges.๐๐๐
Healthy stuff hee..hee..
DeleteWe like the food at Pho Vietz. They have many branches now and I hope that their quality is consistent. I always order beef dishes and I am curious to know what you think of their steamed rice cakes with deep fried pork lard on top.
ReplyDeleteYou too? Yes! I have yet to try the steamed rice cakes.
DeleteMe eat Vietnamese food, but not into it...
ReplyDeleteI love it...
DeleteYou can never go wrong with fried Vietnamese Spring Rolls in a Vietnamese joint...sure to please. What are those transparent things in the salad...thin, transparent rice noodles? I should go try Pho Vietz since there's one near me :)
ReplyDeleteLike you, I was also wondering what those transparent things are. When you go to Pho Vietz, you ask, OK? I was too shy. hee..hee...
DeleteSlurpssss!!! Vietnamese. I'm in! I've Thai in my blogpost today. Love all these ASEAN cuisines, anytime over all the rest.
ReplyDeleteYes, read your post and as usual the food is excellent!
DeleteI knew it! I guessed right! You will surely make a red carpet entrance into this newly opened restaurant. Now I get to hear your raves and opinion to get me ready to eat this Vietnamese Spring Roll Vermicelli! i am attracted to the taugehs, peanuts and chilly. Yums!
ReplyDeleteGo try the vermicelli salad. Very, very nice. The most worth it is the combo of fried spring rolls and lemongrass chicken.
DeleteSame as rose, i am not really into vietnamese food after trying it once, but i don't mind having the sweet potato curry chicken set since curry is my favourite
ReplyDeleteYou will love the curry!
Deletenow I got another item to try when I visit Pho Vietz - Sweet Potato Curry Chicken Set!
ReplyDeleteYes, try it. It's good and I hope you get the meaty parts.
DeleteAlways think that Vietnamese cuisine is one of the healthier option as many of the dishes come with abundance of vegetables
ReplyDeleteTrue true. I love the raw veggies and herbs.
