Tonight No Need to Eat Dinner

Update : Lambogi has closed down. Unfortunately :(

Today my brother is still unwell and could not pick me up from work. I felt apprehensive because it's not that easy to get a cab in the evening. Especially when it rains. But hey, it's Friday!

So to cheer myself up, I decided to eat something good for lunch. There is a new restaurant that took over where Asam Pedas Premier used to be. It's called Lambogi.

This place serves Arabic and Western food. I walked past a few weeks ago to check the menu and I promised to come back. And so I did.

Look at those - shishas all lined up in a row. I wonder what it is like to smoke one of those.

I like Arabic food and my first experience with Middle Eastern cuisine was at Tarbush in Jalan Bukit Bintang together with my brother and my auntie. That was years ago long before I got into blogging.

Then I had my next Middle Eastern fix at Cow Cow Burger which closed down not too long after my visit.

After looking at the menu I settled for the Lamb Madggod Rice (RM19.90). It came like this.

Very generous portions I must say. Let's look at the lamb.

Two nice hunky pieces. As I was about to dig in, these were served.

Ah, accompaniments to my meal. A thin spiced soup and some sort of "sambal" which I guess is made from blended tomatoes, chilies and perhaps some lime juice.

The salad on my plate was plain, no dressing and it added freshness to the meal. The soup (a soup spoon came with it) was diluted with prominent taste of spices. Something akin to Indian rasam. It was not to my liking, so I took only a few sips and left the rest behind.

As for the "sambal", it was all right as a condiment to the rice and lamb. I finished it.

I enjoyed the rice, it was full of aromatic flavors. There were some potato chunks in the rice too. If you enjoy nasi beriani, you will enjoy this. It's just that there is no curry gravy to accompany your rice. I am OK with that as I am not a gravy person.

The lamb was tender with none of the gamey smell that is usually associated with lamb. Portion wise, this Lamb Madggod Rice is more than generous. It's good for two small eaters and even a big eater like me was quite stuffed hah...hah... Taste wise, I was happy as I found the meal delicious. This meal lasted me till evening, hence I skipped dinner.

My Nescafe Ice (RM8.00) which I requested for no sugar was not as successful. It was very diluted. So I'll order something else next time. Next time? Yes, there is a next time because I love Middle Eastern food.

I seldom taste Arabic cuisine but I know I would enjoy the dish that you have. The fragrant and spices rice. The lamb. Bet they are good.

    1. Thanks :) Arabic cuisine is quite similar to Malay/Indian cooking. But I find theirs is a little milder in spice.

  7. that's quite fair for RM19.90, considering most places charge above RM40 for a full lamb shank :D also love the idea of burying potatoes in the rice :D :D :D

    1. It's a very reasonable price for the portion size and taste. Loads of carbs though :)
