Jakun At McDonald's

I have not been to McDonald's for a very long time. The last time I had a McDonald's burger was some two months ago but even then, that was takeaway from a drive thru.

My brother was unwell and was not able give me a ride back home. So I took a cab to 1 Utama and headed to the foodcourt at Aeon hoping to pick up some nice bento or other packed food. But no, nothing looked appealing to me.

I did not want to eat at the restaurant because that might take time and I did not want to reach home late. Then I thought of McDonald's Nasi Lemak Burger.

I have read about this burger. Kris did a review and so did Hans and Mun (but by proxy hah..hah...). Well, I was curious about this burger and wondered if there is anything nasi lemak about it. I am very particular about nasi lemak sambal.

But before that, let me tell you how jakun I was when I went to buy the burger. Like I mentioned, it's been a while since I visited a McDonald's outlet. I noticed many people mingling around some kind of booth where it says "order here for cash and credit card".

And then I saw the regular cashier counter which was not crowded. So how? Order direct from there or have to tekan-tekan at the order booth? So I just bodo-bodo walked to the cashier and ordered the Nasi Lemak Burger ala carte (I don't like sweet drinks and don't want extra carbs from the fries).

Okie...that worked out and I took the receipt. Back in the good old days, the burgers were picked up from the same counter. I noted that now there is a separate counter for you to pick up your order (to ease the jam at the cashier). That's when I went on jakun overdrive and started looking for the queue. Everyone was just crowding around and surely there must be a queue.

So I asked a guy where the queue started and he told me "there is no queue" and that's when I noticed the numbers (on the receipts) being called out. Oh I see...that's how it works now.....

To cut the long story short, when I got home, I immediately sat down to taste my burger.

Hmm....fried egg. I prefer nasi lemak with hard boiled eggs, but then again this is a burger and I suppose a fried egg is more appropriate.

As for the sambal, it's not quite spot on nasi lemak sambal for me. Not that it's not nice or anything like that. It was just OK for me. I actually don't mind it at all. As for the chicken, I love fried chicken and I just gobbled it up. No analysis required.

So my verdict is yes, this is a decent burger with nasi lemak sambal. It's not fantastic and at the same time, it's not bad. I  like it and I will eat it again if I so happen to pass by McDonald's. I wouldn't go out of my way just to get it.

  4. Goodness! I saw this post before I went to bed. My head was confused and thought about this Menopause Post as the timing hour was crazy like an old lady watering plants at 12 midnight. Muahahahaha

So many aunties have blogged about this burger. I will get one for my lunch today to join everyone.

  8. I see you share the same sentiments as me with regards to the sambal being not quite the nasi lemak sambal we were hoping for. And we came to almost similar conclusions too...haha! :D Just that once was quite enough for me but you may give it another go if you happen to pass by.

P/S: I don't know what's been happening with Aeon's bento boxes lately, the fried egg from those bento boxes is so overcooked and rubbery, you can use it as fake/imitation food (you know those used by Japanese restaurants to 'show' a mock-up of their food). Yeah, it's that bad! O_o

    1. Yes, I revisited your post after I ate the burger hah..hah...

Oh, so I see that you are also not thrilled with Aeon's bento boxes lately. I haven't been buying for a while and what I saw was just not appetizing at all. So disappointed :(

  9. Eh, you did not eat it there and then. hahaha at the by proxy remark. my proxy told me that the sambal tastes like those sambal ikan bilis buns sold by gardenia. Since you find it ok, I will try it tomorrow. No Q now so thumbs up for McD? I like that they accept credit card now with just a wave of the card. so convenient!

    1. Ah...now that you mentioned it, yes those sambal ikan bilis in buns! I want trying to recall that taste and I could not remember! But I think it is slightly better than those sambal. I am awaiting your verdict :)

  11. I too feel like a jakun when I first visited McD after a long absence! Really feel out of place. I don't mind no nasi, as long as it tastes nice. Maybe I will try if I do happen to be there.
