I love eating. My favorite pastime is shoving food into my mouth especially when I am vegetating in front of the TV. Munch, munch, munch. Ah...perfect bliss...
One of the things I look forwards to is trying new items on the menu of my favorite haunts.
There is one thing I have been eyeing on Red Kettle's menu which is the Red Kettle Dutch Baby. It's their signature big breakfast and I simply had to try it.
And so I did. I chose sunny side up eggs and as soon as I snapped the pic, I eagerly dug in.
It looks impressive served in a cast iron pan - the fat sausage, sauteed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, a slice of bread and at the bottom was the Dutch Baby. From the menu, I learnt that this baby is sometimes called German Pancake.
I'm afraid this big breakfast did not work for me. That's just me, OK, I'm not saying that it's not good.
The sausage did not agree with me because it was quite heavy on some strong smelling herbs. I usually love sausage, but not this one.
The bread was very tough but I ate it anyway and used it to mop up the egg yolks.
I enjoyed the mushrooms and tomatoes. They were good.
And the Dutch Baby? It was not a fluffy kind of pancake, more on the dense and flat side. Tastewise, it was bland, perhaps it's meant to be that way since it is supposed to be eaten with the other more flavorsome components.
It was filling, very filling, this big breakfast. I guess I won't be having it again. But I will be back for other items on the breakfast menu.
And guess what?
Kampua noodles have come to Damansara Uptown! A noodle shop, SRK Noodle House, opened recently and I happened to pass by after my banking errand. Well, you know where my next destination is!
if it is too much for you, I should definitely stay away. hope SRK noodle house can stay longer there. there is a branch in PJ near Digital Mall that is doing quite well I believe but the branch in Sri Petaling has closed.
ReplyDeleteIf the food is good, then hopefully they have enough support from customers.
DeleteI've got my eyes on that huge sausage. Slurpssss!!!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm..hopefully you like the herbs they put in there.
DeleteI love to eat too but trying hard to cut down on carbo and unnecessary munching. ^^ hard to lose weight than gaining it. Lol.
ReplyDeleteRed Kettle Dutch Baby. What a name. And what a platter, so much goodness in it.
True, so easy to gain weight but losing is like impossible hah..hah..
Delete'i want to eat' could be the title of my biography too! :D and the cover of the book would have a picture similar to your first one of the glorious eggs :D
ReplyDeletehah..hah... How appropriate!
DeleteMe eat first, then exercise, hehe...
ReplyDeleteAt least you exercise :D
DeleteWhenever I feel moody, food cheers me up!
ReplyDeleteHey, me too!
DeleteSometimes I tend to judge a cafe by how successful their big breakfast is...and I've had lots of awesome big breakfasts...and somehow those cafes food ended up to be a favourite of mine. If they can't nail the big breakfast, then it probably wouldn't be very good...for me. Is the sausage house-made? I wonder what herbs would give it that strong smell? My guess would be rosemary or oregano.
ReplyDeleteThe sausage is house made as described in the menu. I can't quite determine what those herbs are. They were quite overpowering to me.
DeleteThis type of breakfast, I need to find sharer.. cannot wallop all by myself.. very muak.. I think I can only eat a quarter and then go for a bowl of noodles after that! hahahaa
ReplyDeleteYou can't live without your noodles hah..hah...
DeleteThanks for the timely warning to skip this big breakfast. I was just attracted to the cast iron pan and thought it was fun. I disliked fat sausages as they usually have too elastic skins and smells, yeah....ewww
ReplyDeleteSo I know where to send my Sand Troopers with antennae to track you at the SRK Noddles!

Eh, don't skip lah. Try at least once. Who knows, ngam your taste. I would have enjoyed the sausage if not for the strong herb smell. Good luck tracking me :D
DeleteThis breakfast really looks big. I prefer the kampau noodles. Looks very delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt is big, even for me :)
DeleteFrom what I knew, Dutch Baby is a dessert and I do not know that it can be served as savoury :P
