I had a very bad week. I was asked by the senior partner to do something against my conscience and ethics.
I was so appalled and upset that I raised my voice and banged my fist in dissent. That was very bad. But I just lost it.
I won't go into details but suffice to say it ruined my day. So. On Saturday, I went to the movies. Wonder Woman. Hah! That's not the sort of movie I would choose to watch but it was entertaining. Nothing like watching a kickass gorgeous babe.
I was so impressed by the physique of the women of Themyscira that I googled for the workout on Youtube. Bah! I would rather be baking cookies.
Anyway. I thought my troubles were over when I received a phone call on some arising issues. That really spoilt my weekend. When you are not in a position to object, you are filled with nothing but angst and frustration.
So what did I do? Bake cookies of course. There is nothing that a batch of warm cookies cannot fix. I can't say that this is a healthy thing to do, but staying angry does not help one bit.
These cookies are packed with walnuts, chocolate chips, dried sour cherries and rolled oats. I made a full recipe but baked only 1/4 of the dough. The rest I stashed in my trusty freezer for a time of leisure or crisis.
It is sad and disappointing that ethics and integrity are compromised to please a client. And I am not even going to say sorry for how I felt.

I can totally relate to your feelings as I was once constantly subjected to the same during one of my tenures with an ex-firm which led to unhappiness in work. Unfortunately, I did not learn how to bake then and decided to call it a day as I was constantly fighting with my own conscience then. Ha Ha! Anyway, stay strong!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lily! I appreciate you sharing your story :)
DeleteOh yes... Your cookies look amazing and surely taste good!
ReplyDeleteThe cookies were great. That's why I baked only 1/4 portion or else... hah...hah...
DeleteOh dear, when you put it like that, I take it that in the end the senior partner won? I know of a case in USA that a high sales executive ended up in prison because she did something the directors asked her to do which is against the securities body as their company is a public listed company. I hope the case you are involved in does not run foul of the law else you are right to bang your fist and stand your ground.
ReplyDeleteI had to state my stand but had to go along. Hopefully nothing negative comes out of this.
DeleteI think not only auditors/auditing firms have to compromise on ethics and integrity these days just to please the clients, it happens in other jobs/industries too...haiz :( Anyway, these cookies look very similar to the soft chewy chocolate chip cookies you baked the other day too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it just kills me. These cookies are similar with the earlier one but has additional ingredients. They gave me a lot of comfort. hah..hah.
DeleteAfter the bad days, it looked like it ended well with yummy cookies. Hope you have much better week this week. xoxo
ReplyDeleteToday is good, thanks!
DeleteNampak sedap n rangup jer kukis tu PH, saya yg nk raya ni pun x bape ada mood nk ngukis ni adesss
ReplyDeleteAda 1.5 minggu lagi, Lina. Cepat baking! hee..hee...
DeleteI had my bad days at work too.. kick them out of my memory disk the moment I retire. :) So..it is always good to pamper us "wonder woman" every now and then.. after all the hard work slogging in the office, forget about the calories.. :)
ReplyDeleteI want to retire right now. LOL!
DeleteCheer up....
ReplyDeleteI loves your cookies...
Thank you, Sharon :)
DeleteHope you felt better after the baking :)
ReplyDeleteLots better, thanks!
DeleteOh yikes - but at least your conscience should be clear - cos you tried to say no and you still stood up for what's right! Ethics is a tricky thing in business, I guess - they always say you have to bend a few rules to climb higher ...
ReplyDeleteI find it highly unacceptable especially when one is a professional. But well, this is not a perfect world :(
DeleteOh? I thought you would be working out to get your shape to look like Wonder Woman. Muahahahahaha!!! I've had my share of chocolate chip cookies - my girl bought me a lot, imported ones. I wish she would not do that - I'm fine with the cheap local ones.
ReplyDeleteI was inspired at first until I saw the exercises one has got to go through to get that shape. LOL!
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your bad week. I guess life was never meant to be smooth sailing, so that's why we should have our own interests and hobbies to take our mind off things when things go bad. Hope you feel better after baking those cookies.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Aunty Young. I feel very much better already :)
DeleteOh dear! Baking cookies is just what you need! Your cookies looks super good!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joyce! The cookies made my day.
DeleteOh no! Yea, sometimes we just have to shout out loud ! "AHHHHHHH"!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel much better after baked a batch of yummy cookies.
These cookies surely taste good ! Love the addition of roll oats + chocolate chips! Yum!
Thanks, Karen! The cookies sure cheered me up.
DeleteAt least you made your stand, thumbs up for the courage!
ReplyDeleteThe cookies look great, it would great to dip and eat with milk or coffee
For cookies or biscuits, I like those digestive biscuits
*it would be great
DeleteThanks! I used to like digestive biscuits too.
DeleteI'm glad you at least expressed your discomfort with your boss. No one should ever be in a position to be forced to do something against their ethics. You are right to say no.
ReplyDeleteI simply had to say what I had to say. But in the end, I still had to comply...
DeleteWow! Our Wonder Woman banged her fist! You should have used the table cloth as your cape and shield yourself with your WOK!!! When you scream your lungs out, I would start purring softly - "May I have some cookies?"

Wahahahaha!!! You are a very, very funny man :D
DeleteI feel for you, Phong Hong. I too hate being forced to do things knowing it is not right. I am glad I am retired now. I am drooling over your cookies. I know they taste yummy by the look!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nancy. I am waiting to retire. LOL!
DeleteAhhhh lega I. Tak fikir pasal kerja lagi dah hihi....
ReplyDeleteMmg benda benda mcm tu kadang kadang boleh spoil mood kita sepanjang minggukan.
I pun baru buat cookies tadi dan semalam LL....Minggu depan sambung lagi haha
Nak berhenti kerja lah, Hainom. Tapi duit punya pasal, tak boleh :(
