People, I did not cook anything special or bake last weekend. So you will have to bear with my eating out "adventures". So. I was walking back after an errand when I passed by Superthai, which I have not visited in a while.
I noted from the menu on the wall downstairs that they have new items and now the set meals are also available for dinner.
It was just after 12pm when I stepped in and I noted that the early lunch crowd which used to come at this hour was missing.
I settled for the Phad Thai set lunch. This is the first time I am having Phad Thai.
The Tom Yum which I used to love tasted different. Very different. It had a somewhat curry taste to it. So I just fished out the vegetables and left the rest of the soup behind.
The Phad Thai was not bad but I found it a little too wet and soggy.
The prawns were very fresh. There were three I think. Being the spring onion lover that I am, I ate the two stalks of spring onions hee..hee...
I loved the Pandan drink. So fragrant and refreshing.
When I left, there was only one other customer. I wonder if the customer base has been "stolen" by The Starling. It was so awfully quiet.
Not so keen on wet phad thai. Oh, but I dont mind the pandan drink.
ReplyDeleteThe pandan drink was so refreshing.
Deleteoh dear, it does not sound good. hope they can survive as i like the food here. i wonder could it be due to mr tuk tuk?
ReplyDeleteI hope they survive too. Mr Tuk Tuk is always crowded, seems like the sensation right now.
Deleteit does seem like a quiet month for a number of restaurants. the mid-year blues, when customers are focusing their attention on work and balancing their budgets, maybe. hopefully the good restaurants will find ways to push through this ...
ReplyDeleteOh I see. It's a tough business to be in. I hope my favorites survive!
DeleteI never tried Phad Thai before, usually for Thai Food I would order green curry chicken, prawn cakes, tom yam soup and kang kong
ReplyDeletePhad Thai is is quite nice but too bad this one was soggy.
DeleteMy girl loves Phad Thai anytime and this one looks good! I love Thai food compared to Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese especially rice with the steamed fish, tom yum among others.. drooling!
ReplyDeleteActually, me too would choose Thai over the rest :)
DeleteLovely place, so spacious and clean. I love quiet empty eateries, can enjoy the food and the peace and quiet...but such places may not last too long. Pad thai looks good, too bad it was on the wet side.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like eating at a quite place too instead of full house. Service is lots better when it is quite.
DeleteHi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteI like Phad Thai and my big girl loves it too.
I am a fan too but looking for a good Phad Thai!
DeleteNot a good feeling dining in an empty restaurant.
ReplyDeleteYes, kind of give the feeling they are not doing well and if the ingredients are fresh. In this case the food was good except for the Phad Thai being a tad on the wet side.
Deletelooks delicious
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteWhenever I see 'empty' restaurant, I won't go to dine there. It's some kind of message to tell us, the customers that the restaurant is 'having strings of problem' ^_^
ReplyDeleteI love tom yum. Can eat it every single day but it is hard to find a good tom yum that both of us love so, so much that we want to come back again and again!
Hi MD, yeah I know what you mean. I love tom yum too. Every sip makes you wanna sip some more!
DeleteTomyum with curry taste? errrr....
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was off...
DeleteGenerally, phad thai noodles tend be soft and sticky (at least the ones that I've had) but perhaps this one is a bit too wet. I prefer crushed peanuts rather than whole peanuts on my noodles (easier to eat).
ReplyDeleteWhen I see set meals being offered for dinner, it doesn't bode well for the restaurant as the profit margin for set meals is usually low. Plus, this type of restaurant should thrive during dinner. Set meals for lunch are ok as it caters to the working lunch crowd who wants a quick meal. I hope they can sustain their business.
I think they put the set meals up for dinner hoping to attract more people. I do hope they survive because they are among the best Thai eatery in this area.
DeleteThe set meal looks quite affordable.
ReplyDeleteI finally went to Starling last week but it was early morning and the mall was very quiet.
Oh, next time go see wayang there :)
DeleteI like Phad Thai...
ReplyDeleteMe too...
DeleteCH tak pernah minum air pandan PH..
ReplyDeleteSelalu sirap yg dimasukkan pandan bila kita buat sirap tu.
Ada rasa manis ke PH..
CH, air pandan tu sedap. Ada rasa manis sikit. Amat menyegarkan tekak :)
DeleteI tried Superthai once after reading about it in your blog....We all loved the food including the tomyum, but i dont remember it having a curry flavor. Hope they havent changed chefs or something like that....We had Thai too over the weekend but at Absolute Thai at Atria. The food there is really good but a little on the expensive side.....Have a great week ahead.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you loved the food at Superthai! As long as I remember, the food there is excellent, just that I have not revisited in a while. I hope that it is still as good. Oh, I must try Absolute Thai one of these days :)
DeleteThe price seem good, do you are those set meals available on weekends too?
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't know if you can get it on weekends.
DeleteThe pandan drink sounds good and refreshing. Nice for a hot day!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. I love the aroma. Can do aromatherapy with it :)
DeleteYeah all the birds have flown to Starling to eat. So now you know why they really used the feng shui of birds flying inside the shopping mall. It really draws the crowd in esp you. Muahahaha
ReplyDeleteI love to eat Pad Thai like any other tourists to Thailand. Maybe you should try the delicious Pad Thai served at Black Canyon in Centrepoint. My Thai mother said very nice!
Oh really? But I notice lately the birds are not there already, I wonder why.
