"Monday onwards I will go back to low-carb diet". Who said that? Who? I don't know. I didn't hear a thing hee..hee..hee...
Last Friday evening, on the way to The Ship, I spotted Nasi Kukus Lejen. Hah! I made a mental note that I must go there for a nasi kukus fix.
The plan was for lunch the following Friday (because somebody swore an oath that she will low-carb starting Monday. Dunno who. Denial mode full on).
But come Monday, I fast forward my plan. I cannot tahan. I want to eat nasi kukus. Now. So.
Nasi Kukus Lejen is just next to Bank Rakyat, along the same row of shophouses where The Ship is. I did some googling and found out that this joint just opened in September this year.
It's a no frills outlet, you order your food and drink at the counter and then make your payment. Simple and straightforward.
The rice is packed in brown waxed paper (even when eating in) and you carry your food and drink in a tray to your table. Like this.
This cost me RM10.00. Very affordable. In fact I was shocked. Pleasantly of course hah..hah..
I couldn't resist the Coconut Shake. I took a sip before snapping this pic.
Very refreshing! The best part is, it is not too sweet. The ice cream tasted like corn flavor and it was very nice. Love this Coconut Shake. Won't mind having it again.
I chose the Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah. That day they also had ikan keli (catfish) and hati/pedal (chicken liver/gizzard).
Sorry for the messy look. I forgot and mixed the rice before I snapped this pic. |
You can choose which cut of chicken you prefer and I chose the thigh. The rice is doused with curry gravy and a mean sambal belacan with slivers of pineapple. The sambal belacan was hot, hot, hot, just the way I like it.
The ayam berempah was very decent. Flavorful though slightly dry. There was also some ikan bilis in my rice.
If there is any other comment that I can make, it's about the curry gravy. I felt that it was a bit too strong on coriander (ketumbar) and cardamom (buah pelaga). But that's just me, I found it overpowering.

I must come back to try the ayam goreng kunyit and ikan keli. And so I did.
Coconut Shake again hee..hee... This time I went for the ikan keli (catfish). I love fried fish.
The poor fish was bent when the rice packet was wrapped. I also added 2 pieces of hati (chicken liver).
The ikan keli was superb! I went at the right time when the fish was freshly fried. It was fresh, crispy on the outside and yet very tender and moist on the inside. Lovely!
I might be addicted to the Coconut Shake....
This cost me RM11.00. |

I passed by this shop yesterday.
ReplyDeleteLook a tad quiet so didn't go there for breakfast. We went to Village Park instead.
It's still quiet new and not many customers at the moment. Next time you can go there and check it out.
Delete1 thing for sure, for me, i can't control my diet, hehehe...
ReplyDeleteShake hands, hee..hee..
DeleteI like ikan geli too! Last time my office canteen used to fry it crispy but inside was soft and sweet too... One fish cost 3rm and sometimes I buy just the fish to eat for lunch...
ReplyDeleteWah like that is low carb diet lah, just eat the fish without the rice.
DeleteThis looks like an old-school nasi lemak set up...only in a cleaner and more comfortable environment. My choice would be the ikan keli too (love ikan keli especially fried with sambal). They all look good except maybe for the rice which looked a bit clumpy (wonder if it's really kukus?!) PH, you're very good at tasting spices (because you cook lots of such dishes using spices) to know exactly which ones are overpowering. For me, I'll just know that it's overpowering but won't be able to put a finger on which ones! ;)
ReplyDeleteI must say the prices are very affordable, almost as cheap as those charged by nasi lemak stalls. The name of the place...legen...I believe it's short for legend, legendary? ;D
You know, every time I need spices at home, I take a sniff because I can't read the label hah..hah... (I am now in need of reading glasses but I refuse to admit it, hah!). That's why I am so familiar with the smell.
DeleteI am thinking the same thing - lejen is for legendary.
what low carb? I also don't know about that. For lunch, just eat as you please since the portion of nasi kukus looks quite small when compared to a regular plate of rice. I am interesed in the deep fried ikan keli. RM10 includes the coconut shake? what a good price! I must eat there one day. I hope the shop is open during weekends as well.
ReplyDeleteRM10 is inclusive of the coconut shake. I think they should be open weekends too. Hope you get to try the food and the shake :)
DeleteHi, thanks for patroning our shop. We are open daily from 7am - 9pm. Now we have nasi lemak ayam berempah for breakfast too.
DeleteThat's great! Thanks for the info. Keep up the good work. Love your food!
DeleteWhat a coincidence! Last night I ate the giant serving of Nasi Kukus at the Kukus shop which EWEW had eaten. It was superb and good to see heavens.
ReplyDeleteThis outlet that you ate has a HQ which is a huge open air styled restaurant in Sungai Buloh. It is very near my office and my boss always belanja us to eat almost every fortnight. I love their coconut shake too!
Ah, so you are familiar with this nasi kukus. I must check out other nasi kukus places too.
DeleteLooks like Kukus Stim Habis punya portion size is not meant for you only....but also for TM since he can also devour the giant serving...kekeke! :D P/S: TM, glad you found the nasi kukus superb :)
DeleteTM is a big eater too hah..hah..
DeleteHi, currently this is our only outlet. We now serve breakfast as well, open daily from 7am-9pm.
Deletewah love that coconut shake
ReplyDeleteSedap tu!
DeleteLow carb diet? Let me check what does it mean ~_^
ReplyDeleteThere'll always be tomorrow. You can start your low carb diet next Monday or the next, next Monday or the first Monday in 2017 ^_^. But since today is Friday, why don't you go and get your favorite nasi lemak kukus and coconut shake again? I ll support you if you wanna go to that restaurant again ^_^
Once you're full, you can start to think about your 'low carb diet' again!
MD, you are not helping at all hah..hah... not good influence lah you...hee..hee..hee... Today I had a Freakshake. With burger some more. Itu lah. Sebelum lunch I baca MD punya komen, terus go ahead >.<
DeleteI like the coconut shake. Very simple way of serving food, no need to wash the plates. For food lovers, not easy to diet. I know! Lol!
ReplyDeleteYes, not easy to diet when there are so many makan places near the office!
DeleteHi Phong Hong
ReplyDeletewah nasi lemak kukus bungkus dalam daun pisang..sedappnya..the ayam portion besar juga tu...

ReplyDeleteExactly. Sobs! LOL!
DeleteOooooo...looks good, the kind of stuff that I like!!! RM10 including the shake? Cheap lah! Here, nasi ayam berempah RM6, coconut shake RM4, also RM10. I had a nice one the other day, coconut shake, did not take photos. Will go again and snap some shots and blog about it.
ReplyDeleteYes, cheap by the standards around here. Good and cheap!

Banyak godaan kat sini, Kak Noor. Hancur lebur diet PH. Susah nak control hee..hee...hee...
DeleteCoconut shake look so yummy, must find it too. There was always azam in diet, but then you the one who spoiled it, right? Haha.
ReplyDeleteYummy habis! Betul kata Azimah, ni salah PH. I sabotage myself hu..hu...

Wah..Hainom punya lunch mengancam lah, lagi terangkat! Jangan cari coconut shake tu, ketagih kang...
DeleteWho cares about diet? Food is top priority for me, why torture ourselves with diet, life will be so dull without nice food and like you said, there is always tomorrow, hee hee
ReplyDeleteLibby, you are not helping hah..hah...
DeleteThat coconut shake, I want!!
ReplyDeleteThe restaurant looks clean and neat from your photos, a place worth visiting eh?
Yes, worth visiting even if just to have the coconut shake!
DeleteTertarik tengok coconut shake tu. Ikan keli, OMG..feveret SB all time. Boleh tahan PH, 2 kali gi sana sebab nak merasa menu dorang. Terbaik
ReplyDeleteHajat hati nak pergi tipa-tiap hari tau... tapi tak boleh lah, makin gemuk PH hah..hah...
DeleteSuch good eats and wallet friendly. Makes the multi-sensory eating experience worthy of ditching the diet 😜.
ReplyDeleteNow that The Tigeress is Back, life in the blog should take on a creative and knife-cutting edge 😇😇😝😝
Well, thanks for justifying the broken rule :D :D :D
DeleteOh, she's back is she? With sharper claws? hee..hee...
Hi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteSeriously I can't finish such a big packet of rice. So I refrain having big meals for lunch unless someone share it with me. Ok ok I need to be on low carb too. Need to switch back my "healthy eating lunch" ha ha !
Hi Karen! Well, you know me. I got a lot of space hah..hah...
DeleteI spy coconut! That would be my first order too - the coconut shake.
ReplyDeleteYou must try it!
DeleteI think I know what Lejen means hehehe... they better be good lah, otherwise betray the name...
ReplyDeleteThey scoop your pick and wrap the food up, or they pre-wrap all the available selections? If pre-wrap, not as good as scoop fresh leh...
They are good, so justified lah to say lejen :)
DeleteThey only wrap when you order, so it is freshly packed.
Passed by this shop last weekend on my way to Annie 1 :P
ReplyDeleteYes, it's somewhere behind Annie-1 row. So many makan places this area.
DeleteThe coconut shake is calling me.. Why I need to go Melaka while can get it in Uptown :p
ReplyDeleteYes, so convenient :)
