You know, it's very hard to go on a diet when there are so many nice makan places near my office. The latest to join the group of diet saboteurs (hah..hah..) is Patissez.
Patissez is situated at the space once occupied by Dim Sum Kitchen (along the row of shops where the famous Hokkien mee is). When renovation works was underway, I was hoping that the new occupants would be a restaurant.
See? I am self sabotaging here. I should be hoping for a stationery shop or a yoga center or whatever that is not food related. Haiz....
So when I saw the green awning with the word "FreakShakes", I more of less guessed that Patissez was coming to Uptown. I have seen their Freakshakes on blogs and I was curious. So.
Every time I walk past since their opening, I could not summon the courage to go inside. Let me explain. I have this phobia of going into cafes or restaurants on my own if it was my first ever visit.
Especially if the front entrance is not an open concept or if they are not located on the ground floor. If I need to push a door open (or climb a flight of stairs), I freeze. Am I weird? No, I am a coward >.<
So all I ever did was peer into the cafe and secretly covet the jars and jars of Nutella. Those things are expensive, you know.
Well, one Friday my brother paid me a surprise visit at the office. "Cher, can we do brunch?" At that point Patissez was the furthest thing on my mind because I was working on something that melted my brain.
Once I recovered my faculties, it occurred to me that I now have gang to go to Patissez. And so began my first visit.
We were handed a menu that looked like a magazine. I was quite impressed with what was on offer because I was under the impression that they were all about Freakshakes and nibbles and not much else.
Water is served here which is great for people who prefer not to have sweet drinks.
This is my brother's very loaded Muddy Pat 2.0. I see a chocolate brownie and I believe that disc-looking thing is a marshmallow. I have slight OCD and honestly, all that messy chocolate dripping off the glass bothered me a bit but I stopped myself from wiping it clean.
My turn. This is my Pretzella. It's a Nutella milkshake adorned with lots of pretzels. Those pretzels are stuck to the rim of the glass by using Nutella as glue. One sip and I was done for. This Pretzella is so sinful. Bye bye diet. I don't want to see you ever again.
My brother was not attracted to the Big Breakfast because of the chicken bacon. So he got himself an Aglio Olio. He said it is not bad but lacking the punch of you-know-what.
I got me a Cheeseburger because I haven't had a burger in ages since McDonalds moved.
This burger is awesome. I enjoyed it very much and I shared the fries with my brother who thought that the fries were extremely good.
Can we lick that clean? |
See how messy the glass is? I casually mentioned to my brother that it must be very difficult to wash, what with all the oily sticky mess.
Being the funny guy that he is, he remarked that hopefully none of the Nutella/Chocolate came from the previous serving. That's a scary thought but I am sure nothing of that sort would happen here.

So that marks my first Freakshake experience. Some of you may be wondering, is it too sweet? Is it too big? Yes, it is sweet but not super duper sweet.
I find the sweetness level acceptable and no, the shake is not that big. I could finish it and have my burger too. But if you are small eater, then perhaps it is better to share. But seriously, I would not want to share the Pretzella.
No way we could resist these nice food..
ReplyDeleteYup, always will give in...
DeleteHeheheheheh I've always thought the Freakshakes look too big to finish on my own. The Pretzella does look very enticing :)
ReplyDeleteYour Babysumokids can help you to finish :)
DeleteAh, if only I work at DU too. I would be having a feast for lunch everyday. I wonder how your brother manage to start working on his Muddy Pat 2.0 without the whole tower on top toppling over. As much as I like to drink milkshakes I don't think I can handle these freakshakes. For one, I will be so paranoid that the nutella is from the previous use.....
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, he tackled the marshmallows first and then worked downwards :) The freakshakes I will have only once in a blue moon. Can't afford all those calories.
DeleteVery hard for me to go on diet since i always eat and eat, hehe...
ReplyDeleteHaiz...me too...
DeleteYikes, I think I can go into a diabetic coma just looking at the overflowing desserts! >.< I've seen these freakshakes on blogs but I don't think I can handle the sweetness + I'm not very fond of things with lots of cream.
ReplyDeleteI can see why the aglio olio was lacking the punch for you as I can't see any chilli flakes nor garlic....and those sliced red chillies on top don't count...haha! :D I have to say your home-cooked aglio olio looks much better than this.
hah..hah.. then those Freakshakes are not for you. Maybe just a sip or two if you have someone to share it with.
DeleteOh yes, I totally forgot about chilli flakes. My brother says bacon makes a lot of difference hah..hah..
I see some food I like on the menu - shredded slow braised beef omelette is one of them. Another one is herby roasted mushroom and smashed avo. Salmon scramble also looks good. For the shake, maybe try the like-a-velvet. Let's see when I can get my kakis to go share this, hehehe. Thanks for highlighting this place.
ReplyDeleteThey have quite a good selection of mains. I also want to try a few more.
DeleteHow tempting. How to go on diet like that? Haha.
ReplyDeleteThe burger did looked awesome.
No more diet. hah..hah..
DeleteYou need to move office if you wanna avoid restaurant temptations ... especially with starling opening so soon! ;) I don't have any issues with pushing into an unfamiliar restaurant alone or with companions actually. Maybe you can try it once - and then the next time it'll be easier! ;) and yay for patissez succeeding in pleasing your palate! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am eagerly awaiting The Starling! To heck with my diet, eh? LOL! Well, you are a restaurant reviewer and we can't have you being afraid to enter an unfamiliar restaurant, can we? I will take your advise and just go forth and enter!
DeleteTempting tengok air Pretzella ko tu Phong Hong..
ReplyDeleteTengok harga semua lagi lah hahahhahha.. fengsannnn
Fengsan, kan? hee..hee... Sekali sekala OK lah belanja macam tu.
DeleteWaaaa I want your brother's muddy pat...
ReplyDeleteThe Pretzella is better. Try lah.
DeleteMy! My! Those are awesome looking sweets!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Very elaborate shakes they are.
DeleteI see the drinks i pengsan liao...wahh...where to start leh....
ReplyDeleteStart with the straw. Sedut2 first then tackle the rest.
DeleteAiyoyo! How to diet with all these yummylicious food and chocolate desserts! I would probably be tempted to wipe off the chocolate with my fingers and licking them if you had not mentioned about the left over chocolate from previous serving!
ReplyDeleteNancy, there's no way to diet like this. LOL!
DeleteHi Cher, I am eyeing the desserts with a gaping mouth!! Never seen such temptation over here in IPOH! Slurrpppp....
ReplyDeleteNext time you come over I belanja you :)
DeleteI would love to try the Muddy Pat and the burger, food glorious food and it makes my day
ReplyDeleteSeems like Damansara Uptown got many nice food outlets, where is it actually?
DeleteIt's in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. So when you coming over?
DeleteOh I see, I have never been to Selangor, Malaysia I been to Malacca, Penang, Cameron Highlands, Genting and JB that's all
DeleteI love Malaysia for its laid back culture, unlike SG too city like and commercialized
Pretzella is my favourite for sure! I'm a bit of a Nutella addict - despite my healthy tendencies. The best bit is wiping up the Nutella with the salty pretzels - sweet and savoury - the bomb!
ReplyDeleteJust reading your comment makes me want to go out there again and get me another Pretzella. Gah!
DeleteHubby not fond of sweet stuff, Sam (my daughter) has small appetite, if I order this, I'll most probably need to finish half of it >_<
ReplyDeleteThen better not order lah unless if you go with your girlfriends and you girls can share.
Deletesedap2 semuanya! Sesekali makan /minum mcm ni boleh lah kan PH..klu selalu, menangis dompet ni.. ahhahah...btw, banyak nya Nutella kat atas rak-rak tk.. (mata tertumpu kt situ).. hehe..
ReplyDeleteYa lah, Atie, makanan macam ni mahal. So hanya boleh dinikmati sekali sekala aje. Peminat Nutella, ya? Sama lah kita :)
DeleteWallah PH....rasa mcm tak berbaloi pulak makan berger tapi harga mahal cenggitu....Kalau mak, lepas makan sure terus menyesal haha....
ReplyDeleteTak pernah jumpa lagi chocshake yg melimpah melampau mcm tu PH...tak muak ke?
Sekali sekala Hainom, kita nak rasa makanan cam tu. Memang mahal. So satu kali aje. lepas tu bye bye. hah..hah...
DeleteChocshake to OK, sedap. Over the top lah tapi tak rasa muak.
I can see your diet plan .
ReplyDeleteWith such tempting food you need lots of workout to stay fit though
Yah, I know....bah! LOL!
DeleteI saw this kind of Pretzel drinks in Bangsar restaurant review. Never know nearby Uptown also got. Uptown is more convenient to me :)
ReplyDeleteThen you can try it one day :)
