Red Kettle

One fine day, I spotted a new eatery at The Starling. It is called Red Kettle and I walked over to check the menu. I liked what I saw.

There were so many items on the menu that I wanted to try. But I had already eaten and besides, the restaurant was packed.

I told myself that I would come back. So. One morning I walked over at 10am (talk about being eager) hoping to have the big breakfast. When I got there, I noted that the shutter was open only halfway. Strange, since they open at 10.

I thought that they might be behind schedule and I walked up to Popular Bookstore to browse while waiting. Half an hour later, Red Kettle was still not open.

I spotted one of their chefs making his way to the loo and stopped him dead on his tracks. Apparently, they were having some issues with the kitchen and the problem was being looked into. Twenty minutes later, they opened and I got myself a seat.

Unfortunately, due to the unresolved kitchen issues, they were unable to serve the big breakfast. So I left.

The next day, I wanted to return but due to urgent office matters, I was again disappointed.

But come Saturday evening, I suggested to my partner that we go there for dinner. My wish came true!

Being a Saturday evening, The Starling was packed with people. I have never seen it so packed before. I guess many people are now aware of this shopping mall and are making their way here.

Though there was a queue, my partner and I were able to get a seat, though a not so comfortable one. We had to seat at the long bench as all the tables were occupied.

Honey Lemon, one hot an done cold.
Service seemed chaotic as I reckon the service staff are still getting the feel of things. Anyway, we got our orders taken and yes, we did wait quite a bit.

This is the Kettle Salad for us to share. It had greens, roasted tomatoes, croutons, cranberries, walnuts and a hard boiled egg. I am not sure what dressing was used, but I tasted red wine vinegar. It was a good salad. But definitely not enough to make a main meal.

My partner's Classic Pork Chop came next. We made an order for mantau as an add on but it was missing. So I asked a server and was informed that they ran out of mantau. Hmmm...

The meat was well seasoned but was on the dryish side. The sauce was not too bad.

Underneath the meat were some potato wedges. The portion size is quite modest and I am glad I ordered the salad to supplement our meal.

I was craving for burger the whole week and I had my eye on the Cajun Prawn Pork Burger. It lived up to my expectations. The bun was fresh and soft and all the fixings inside were well executed. It is not a very big burger and makes a very good light meal. I enjoyed the fries too.

I will definitely be back for more but I will have to come at a time when it is not so crowded.

  5. Salad looks great. You mean they ran out of mantao and they never informed you at all? That's the pits. I'd hate that as much as places where almost everything on the menu is not available.

    1. Yup, no word at all :( They should at least inform earlier or when serving. But the place was crowded and I'll cut them some slack.

  7. Four slices of pork chop (to me) would be a dish for sharing (with maybe a sharing salad as well)...hehe! ^.^ I too have yet to find a pork chop that's really tender. I think I prefer your prawn burger more as I see some 'darkly' bits peeking out from the bun! ^_~

    1. Oh, they were rather small slices hee..hee.. The pork chops at Epicuro are tender and moist. Perhaps you could visit one day if you happen to pass by.

  9. The title of your entry reminds me of the so beautiful and striking red kettle I saw at Harvey Norman. Dah lama termimpi-mimpi tapi nasib baik tak beli lagi. I thought you're talking about the same thing ^_^

Oh, another new restaurant for you to try! Kalau sedap, takpalah tunggu lama sikit and dating a few times. Kalau tak sedap and kena menunggu lama, itu yang panas hati!

Seriously, you have to be Starling's ambassador lah!

You're doing a good job promoting the place!
