Datenite @ Twins Signature Roast Duck

Well, I was scratching my head where else to go for datenite where I could stay (relatively) carb-free.

Twins Signature Roast Duck, Damansara Utama. Why not? It is convenient. I love the roast duck. And it is the first restaurant that I relied on when I embarked on the carnivore diet. So it has a special place in my heart.

So there we were.

Oh no. The rice was not for me.

My partner piled my portion on to his. The man can eat loads of carbs and never gain an ounce. So unfair! LOL!

We ordered 1/4 duck. And that's not all.

Tofu with minced pork which turned out very tasty.

French beans with minced pork. Also delicious.

And vinegar pork trotter. I would say that it tasted quite good but we both found it too sweet. And the thing about pork trotters is that you get more bone than meat.

We were also served this complimentary soup which I usually decline.

It was a good dinner and I was surprised that the dishes from the limited ala carte menu (the other dishes are kangkung belacan,  steamed tofu and pork mustard green soup (chai boey) if I remember correctly) were pretty decent.

However, that evening my partner and I ended up with leg cramps which I suspect comes from the sugar in the pork trotters dish. We get this reaction when we consume food that is sweet.

Also I woke up feeling lethargic and achy. No fault of the restaurant, just me reacting to sugar/ingredients in the seasonings.

So far I (my partner too) have not had any adverse reactions when eating the roast duck. It is fair to say that the only thing safe for us to eat is their signature dish - the roast duck and it is fine by us.

  2. Wow, your partner has the same reaction (leg cramps) as you when you have too much sugar...that's why you're "meant" for each other....lol! :D I actually love vinegar pork (not trotters, of course) but dare not eat it coz I know it contains too much sugar to balance out the acidic vinegar (I can drink the sauce like soup, provided it's not too sweet...that's how much I love it). Ya, I agree, your partner eats a lot of rice coz that one plate already looks like a good portion (even my husband don't eat that much rice these days)...and yes, I totally agree, it's unfair that those who consume lots of carbs don't put on weight...haha! P/S: Did the duck still have crispy skin at dinner time?
