Rojak & Cendol Mamak Original, Damansara Uptown

This little food adventure happened last month. While going to hunt for sweet potato balls I spotted this new rojak food truck which was parked at the side of RHB Bank.


Rojak & Cendol Mamak Original. That got me excited but I had already had lunch. So I went on to look for the sweet potato balls truck.


Alamak. Still haven't opened yet. So I went back to office slightly disappointed. Never mind. I can always come back since it is near my office.


The next day I decided to go and eat rojak heh..heh...


Don't know nice or not but never try, never know. I ordered the Rojak Sotong and Cendol Minum (basically the "minum (drink)" means you are having it on site).


I was very brave like last time and ate at the truck. It was not very comfortable but I am willing to suffer for food.


I would say that the portion size of the rojak ingredients was very generous. The goreng-goreng stuff were crispy and the sotong was tender.


However I found the rojak sauce wanting. The recipe needs to be improved and I could not help comparing it with Rojak Utama (or is this the same rojak but rebranded and run by a new owner??) which I have not seen in a while.


The cendol I'm afraid was very diluted and it is not what I would expect of a cendol. Suffice to say, if the vendor expects to sell this cendol, it's consistency and taste needs serious major improvement.


All I can say is, good luck and I hope that the vendor receives  (brutally) honest feedback from customers.

  3. LOL! time will tell if a rojak is good or not. When no business, the truck will be gone after a while. Nearby my house, there is a rojak truck which has been around for 20 years....The rojak & cendol are not bad, taste/texture hits the spot, hence the business very 'laku'.

    1. How lucky you have a good rojak near your house. I have not been going out of office, so I don't know if the rojak truck is still there.

  4. Wahhhh.. food knows no bounds when PH is around! Those days I would love to try everything under the sun but now, it is so different... either buy and go or homecooking only... auntie, auntie me!

  5. I think you've eaten at this rojak truck before but forgot. I so happened to check google review and saw your review there from a year ago (I actually googled coz I was hoping too that this could be the Rojak Utama that has moved as my husband likes that rojak very much). You did mention that you liked the rojak sauce of this one a year ago (perhaps the sauce has changed?) but the cendol was still the same (still as diluted)...lol! :D There is a photo of this truck (when you google rojak & cendol mamak original) in front of Texas chicken and also in front of RHB. This is so confusing...which rojak truck is this? I guess you'll only know for sure if you can recognise the hawker/owner! >_<

    1. Ah! Then this must be the same rojak truck. The two old guys must have passed on or sold their business to this young chap. But the taste of the rojak is completely different, nothing like the old one. As for the cendol, the previous one was still all right though diluted. Suffice to say, I won't go back to this one again.

    2. I just checked with my husband who says this is not the same rojak that he loves. This new truck (a completely different truck according to him) was first parked at Texas Chicken before they moved to their current lot in RHB Bank. He also can recognise the faces of the previous rojak owners and this one is not them. So it's very unlikely that the two previous guys sold their business since you mentioned that the taste is completely different. Now, where have Rojak Utama gone? >_<

    3. I see! Yes, the guy running this truck is a young man and the truck is new. I wonder too where is the good old Rojak Utama. Who knows the two old guys decided to call it a day. It is still possible that the business was sold but they did not sell the secret recipe hah..hah... Just like Crack Pork, bought the business, paid for the recipes but still did not get it right and closed down.

  6. Now under MCO, everything looks nice but not so keen to go out far to tapau. Maybe can tapau the rojak in our area and the taste quite good but I will miss good tasty yummy cendol. Some vendors will ask the customers for frank feedback so that they can improve their recipes.

    1. I haven't tapau anything for more than 2 weeks already. Didn't even order delivery. When asked, sometimes quite paiseh to tell the awful truth. LOL!

  7. Rojak sauce wanting? Too diluted or too sweet or not enough peanuts or too salty or no taste?

    1. It simply paled in comparison with the previous rojak sauce. New cook I think, did not use the old recipe.

    2. Hhmmm, you can't pinpoint exactly why but when the sauce hits your tongue, you feel ah not as good as before without knowing exactly why. It is like marking an essay n say not good without being able to give feedback to the writer on how to improve, is it?

  8. There's one rojak/pasembur at Kepong Baru which is perpetually with queue. If you like rojak, I suggest you can have a try, when cross district is allowed :P
