Last Sunday I Ate Many Things

My partner's sister gifted him with four paus. Two pink and two white. I have never seen a pink pau before. She mentioned the pink one was made with I-can't-remember-what, hence the color.

He shared them with me. I steamed mine on Sunday.


I was very hungry after our grocery run. He already ate his the day before.


I haven't eaten pau in a long time.


Somebody wants her share.


Want? Come!  Come!


Eh, tak layan plak. Don't like is it?


It was delicious. Just like regular meat pau with a wedge of hardboiled egg inside. 


The white one was char siew pau. Also good but way too sweet.


Then I had a mango (also from his sister plus some other fruits) which was very ripe. I prefer my mango semi-ripe when it still has some tartness and firm bite.


After that I had a passionfruit. I rarely eat passionfruit and I loved it.


I must buy passionfruit because it is so nice!


I forgot to take a photo of my dinner and I had another mango and a few jambu air after that. Too bad I did not have time to make colek or else the jambu air experience would be da bomb! 

I have never eaten so many fruits in a day hah..hah...


I must find out where she bought the paus.

    1. Me too. I should stock up in the freezer so that I can have pau anytime I want.

  3. That pink pau with its reddish meat looks like nam yue pau to me. Does the filling taste like a version of less intense nam yue pork? ;) For some reason, I find that cats don't like pork. I'd always have a non-disturbing meal time if I'm eating pork in front of Cookie.

    You have two out of three of my favourite fruits on a plate (the other being grapes). Like you, I like a little tartness in my mangoes too. I do not like mangoes that are too ripe (as they become too sweet). That's why I adore those Thai sticky rice with mangoes as they are always just right with a firm bite.

    I've only had passionfruit in a drink and liked it. But one day, my sister-in-law gifted me some passion fruits which I scooped and ate. It was rather weird and difficult to eat. I later realised she gave me granadilla fruit instead of passion fruit (closely related to passion fruit but is different it seems). The skin is yellow-orange instead of bring yellow or purple in passion fruits. The pulp is whitish/greyish in colour (instead of yellowish) and gelatinous in texture, in fact I'd describe it as almost mucous-like. Biting into the seeds, the texture was different from passion fruit (which I actually don't mind, passion fruit I mean). Suffice to say, the next time she offered me what she calls "passion fruit", I politely declined...lol!

    1. Hmm...I did not detect nam yue. It tasted just like a regular meat pau. Ah...no wonder lah. Just the other day I was filtering pork bone broth and Girl was making a lot of noise (she must have found the smell enticing) and I gave her a little bit of the meat from the bones. She was excited at first but left the meat untouched.

      This is the first time I heard of granadilla fruit. Oh dear, mucous-like pulp does npt sound too appetizing hah..hah... You should try passionfruit. I learnt that the skin must be very wrinkly before you eat it as that is the indicator that is is at its prime ripeness and will be sweet.

  4. pink pau looks so special...but i dislike savoury meat pau that is too 'sweet'. The mango too ripe...also not to my liking.

    1. Somehow char siew pau tend to be on the sweeter side. If they can reduce the sugar, it would taste a lot better.

  5. Is the pink for the baos from beetroot? Ah Girl is so cute, from far, she smells she knows she doesn't like. Fruits are nice to eat. I read somewhere that if eat passion fruits daily can lose weight.
