MCO 2.0 Day #12 : Korean Fried Chicken. So Delicious!

Yup. Makan...makan...makan... Monkey see, monkey wanna eat. That's me. I am the monkey.

Saturday evening (day #11) I wanted 4Fingers Crispy Chicken for dinner. It was raining earlier but already stopped. So I took my phone and my fingers did some poking. I put in an order with 4Fingers Crispy Fried Chicken via Grabfood. But alas, after waiting and waiting, there was no rider available to pick up my food. Bah!

So the next best thing was to just order something closer to home. So.

I haven't had this for many years. My first ever Carl's Jr was at their outlet somewhere in Jalan Pudu, KL. Back then I thought the burger was pretty good (as in better than McD).

I got me a Portobello Mushroom Burger and Beef Chilli Cheese Fries.

Oh yum. I still think Carl's Jr burger is good.

What I did not expect was how much I enjoyed the Beef Chilli Cheese Fries. Oh wow. I loved it.

But it made me very thirsty.

Sunday morning (day #11) there was a whole lot of people at Aeon, 1 Utama. More than last week. Chinese New Year is just around the corner. MCO notwithstanding, people are coming out full force to get food/festive supplies.

The dong dong chiang songs were playing full blast to get us into the mood.

Festive punya festive, I bought these.

I couldn't resist. The Red Velvet filling has a prominent cheese smell and was very sweet. I still prefer the original.

After putting away my groceries, I ordered 4Fingers Crispy Chicken.

Finally! I got a Tofu Rice Box Combo (Hot), 6 pieces Chicken Bites (Soy Garlic) and 3 pieces Drumsticks (Mixed Hot & Soy Garlic). Plus an order of the Kimslaw.

You know, I love tofu. Of the deep fried kind, doused in sauce. I really liked this a lot.

These boneless chicken bites were pretty good too. I love the soy garlic sauce. It hit all the right notes - salty, sweet, savory, garlicy. I could have licked the sauce off the box, not wanting to waste a single drop.

I loved the drumsticks too. Somehow, I did not get much of an impression of the hot sauce (both the tofu and drumstick). Maybe next time, I will get more items with the hot sauce so that I can taste it properly.

I took out half of the rice into a container and set it aside with 3 pieces of the boneless chicken and 2 drumsticks for dinner. Now who says I don't exercise portion control?

Now, something that I really loved - the Kimslaw (Kimchi Coleslaw). It was so good. And so bloody expensive.

This tiny tub (which spilled tsk! tsk!) cost RM6.90. Seriously. Next time I have kimchi in my fridge, I want to try to replicate this Kimslaw. It tasted nothing like kimchi and at some point I thought the aftertaste reminded me of chicken rice chili dip (ginger garlic aroma).

In conclusion, I enjoyed my 4Fingers Crispy Fried Chicken meal and I will order again.

I just realized somebody scratched the old newspapers.

Ah Girl reclaimed her spot on this old shoe rack which I originally set up for her (and Ah Belle stole it). This morning she refused to leave the house (very happy lazing on the bed) and I just let her be.

  1. Wah, so good to hear that Ah Girl loves the bed that she wants to stay in while you go to work. So Ah Girl has the full run of the whole house while you are at work?

    1. I guess she did but I did not see any "damage". LOL!

  2. 4fingers eatery is not at one utama? Where did you order from? If cannot find a rider then grab will cancel your order for you? I have not experience it before.

    1. No, it is not. Mine came from the branch at Petronas NKVE. Yes, Grab cancels after a certain period of time and asks to re-order but I did not.

  3. I only ate soy drumsticks from 4fingers. I think kyochon or nene is better. I think perhaps I should buy to try and eat the boneless chicken bites from 4fingers.

    1. I still like Kyochon and I think they are both good. Nene gave me bad impression due to the attitude of the staff at the (now closed) outlet at Starling. I was not surprised that the place folded up.

  4. I'm glad you tried this KFC I recommended...and loved it as much as I did...yay! ^o^ Someone asked me why I would order tofu in a Korean chicken place. Well, aren't you glad I did (never try, never know)...and it turned out pretty darn good...haha! :D Wow, you truly loved the kimslaw? Even when it didn't taste anything like kimchi? I'll be eager to find out if you can manage to replicate the taste. P/S: I agree the kimslaw is too expensive for such a small portion, that container looks like the size they use for sauce! >_< You loved the soy garlic too...we really do have quite similar tastebuds. I think the hot flavour didn't leave much of an impression for you coz you can tolerate a much higher dose of spiciness, so it probably wasn't spicy enough for you than it was for me.

I can't remember if I've ever had Carl's. If I had, it must have been a long time ago.

Aiyo, you resisted Oreos the last time you did your grocery run coz you mentioned that that was the culprit that made you put on 5kg during MCO 1.0...resistance is futile! LOL

Since Ah Girl is willing to sleep on something Belle slept on, it means she can tolerate her smell and this could mean the beginning of a beautiful friendship...kekeke! ;)

    1. Oh yes, 4Fingers ticked all the right boxes for me! I loved the tofu, I mean so what if it's not chicken hah..hah... I feel like ordering again and I will try more of the hot sauce just to get a better taste.

Haiz...I have a wekaness for Oreos!

Ah Girl and Belle are not friends yet due to Ah Girl being unreceptive towards Belle's gesture of friendship. They do sniff at each other briefly (and backsides included LOL!) but sometimes Belle gets aggressive and paws Ah Girl. Ah Girl does not retaliate, she just walks away.

  5. Of course Carl's Jr is better than the other burger fast food joints because it is so much more expensive. Oh, you enjoyed eating the cheese in the beef chili fries. If it gets me to be very thirsty, then I am a bit scared to eat it because I don't like the feeling of being very thirsty. But I am sure I would love it because I love the cheese kimchi beef fries of KGB burgers.

    1. The cheese is not too strong and blends well with the beef chili. I have given up on KGB because the last two burgers I tried tasted very ordinary. My fave is MyBurgerLab.

  6. Wow! Long q at aeon supermarket. Long time I didn't go to aeon supermarket in Midvalley Mall. I am in the mood for cny because we just bought ready cooked frozen pork trotters from eu yan sang to prepare for my in-laws food during cny. Cny to me is just about preparing to ensure my elderly inlaws are taken care of during that period so in this mco, it is the same preparation, that's why mco 2.0 didn't affect my mood for cny. 😆 I saw the oreo red velvet but I didn't buy. I have yet to buy any oreo biscuits to try but my spouse loves to eat the mcd oreo double chocolate mcFlurry.

    1. You are a very good DIL. I hope that even with MCO, you and your family will still have a warm and joyous CNY. Your spouse will not like the red velvet Oreos as they have quite a strong cheesy smell. To me lah. LOL!

  7. Red Velvet Oreo? Never mind that you don't like it and I am not a fan of Oreos - I wanna try. I love red velvet. Korean fried chicken - we have Pelicana and Nene but we hardly ever go there - guess we would not be ordering home delivery from them. My girl made something Korean the other day - coming soon in my blog. Hehehehehe!!!!

  8. I have never tried kimslaw before...maybe one day I should try...seems like 4 fingers menu getting creative these days. Can't recall seeing kimslaw in the menu when I first tried 4 fingers some years ago.

  9. I have tried red velvet Oreo before and it taste artificial & weird to me. Better stick back to the original flavour.

    1. I did not like the cheese smell. From now on I will just buy the original, never mind whatever new flavors come out.

  12. Obviously your 4Fingers craving was affected by someone, LOL
Although you and Kris like the tofu, but I still won't order it lah, because the reason why I get 4Fingers is purely for the fried chicken. :P
I love the spicy sauce friend chicken at Choo Choo Chicken, fiery hot yet addictive.
