After my auntie shared the food she cooked using her air fryer I was very inspired. So last weekend I bought a few ingredients to experiment.
This here is my air fryer. It's a small one and the basket can fit food for one or two persons. If I wanted to cook more, I would have to do it in batches.
Of course you can buy those oil in spray cans that are available at the supermarket but I have learnt that those contain extra ingredients in the form of chemicals which act as propellants. I don't think I want to consume that.
First up, I tried a steak. Just because I saw it done on Youtube.
Although the steak turned out juicy and tender, in terms of taste, you can't beat the searing of a hot cast iron pan.
The roasted potatoes fared better.
They could have been more crispy. I have to adjust the temperature and timing. But I am happy because I can roast just a small portion of potatoes.
Next up, chicken wings, marinated in Moroccan seasoning.
I also attempted a turmeric roasted cauliflower that also turned out quite well, although it does not look so good in the photo.
Nope, Girl didn't get to eat this because I marinated the chicken legs with Gochujang (+ soy sauce + oyster sauce).
The last thing I cooked was brinjals marinated with turmeric powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. I tossed the brinjal slices in oil first and seeing that brinjals absorb oil like a sponge, I also sprayed them with a little oil.
Ironically, I did not make any (air) fried chicken but I will be trying that this weekend. I am quite pleased with the air fryer as it is quite practical when roasting/grilling small amounts of food. My auntie told me that it is also great for heating up food.
Cleaning is easy. I lined the bottom of the outer basket with aluminum foil so that it can catch any oil and drippings. As for the inner basket, it is non-stick but I spray it with oil first before putting any food in it. So any residue from the food washes off very easily
Yes, do post up more air fryer foodstuff you do! I am also learning, so far, I just use it to reheat, roast chicken and now seeing your post above, I have more in mind now... cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes.... I wanna try too! The chicken wings you did look so good, mine turned out whitish and did not look appetizing at all.. will try to marinate with turmeric to give it some colouring.. :)
ReplyDeleteI am still learning too through trial and error even though there are many recipes out there.
DeleteYour chicken legs look like my missus'. She cooks wings with the air fryer too, look and taste the same as well. Doesn't see her using it that much anymore, maybe the novelty has worn off...easier to just roast in the oven.
ReplyDeletePerhaps she has stopped using as the capacity is small and need to do in batches.
DeleteHi dear.. appreciate if you could share the time and temperature settings for us! Your Air Fried food looks so tempting and colorful.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Sure, I will share the cooking time and temperature next time. This one is just an experiment where I simply tembak-tembak hah..hah...
Deletelooking forward to more air fryer recipes!
ReplyDeleteSure thing!
DeleteMay I know where you get the spray bottle? I like my air fryer too although the food fried with it cannot compared with fried with oil, but no more oily kitchen after frying food is more important. The AF cleaning part, I only can partly agree with you as the coil on the top (ceiling of the AF) is hard to be clean, I think you not yet aware of this, I assume. :P
ReplyDeleteI bought the spray bottle from Shoppee and it is quite cheap. Yes, I am aware that the coil will become dirty because as the food cooks, there is splatter of oil and juices. But since mine is still so new, it is not an immediate problem hah..hah... Will have to figure out how to clean it.
DeleteLook like you are enjoying cooking with air fryer. I like all the food you cooked. Yum yum. Now I am tempted to get one. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteLOL! If you do get one, get a bigger one that can fit more food since you are a family of four.
DeleteYour cute air fryer looks like a beer barrel of Guinness Stout! I am glad that you are very happy with the results and taste wise. Best of all is the cleaner kitchen now.
ReplyDeletehah..hah...yes, it looks very cute! I basically like it because I can grill/roast smaller amounts of food. No need to fire up my big oven just for one or two chicken legs.
DeleteHmmm, (I'm a bit confused here) I actually thought our (kitchen top) microwave/convection oven is considered small (unless I'm wrong, we're using the same National oven, right?) compared to those built-in convection ovens that other people have. I thought ours is best used for grilling/roasting small amounts of food like 2 chicken legs, some potatoes & veggies at one time (maybe might even have to go 2 rounds) which is what I do. If I do it for a party of say 8 - 10, I have to grill the chicken, potatoes & veggies separately in batches (definitely 3 rounds & more).
DeleteAh, I see your air fryer (AF) have been put to work many times. You've cooked almost everything and anything in it already. Ai, I thought the main purpose of an AF is to replace frying food in oil for a healthier outcome...but, so far, you've only roasted food in it. The food you've made above looks exactly like the roasted food you made with your oven, so I've not been convinced (yet) to get another gadget that my oven can already do...haha! :D But I'll be getting me an oil spray bottle from Shopee soon (it's able to distribute the oil better into the food than drizzling & mixing), actually I've been eyeing it for a while now but it's so cheap I have to get more than one for free shipping. Noting what choi yen said, so I was right that air fried chicken does not taste as good as chicken fried in oil (I was told this by my neighbour whose husband likes fried chicken but does not like her air fried chicken...lol).
ReplyDeleteAs usual, all your roasted food (chicken leg, veggies & potatoes) look good (just as good as if they came out of your oven! ^_~) except maybe the brinjal which looks kinda dry. I once roasted sweet potatoes without parboiling them first and they look like your that when it came out (dry and kinda hard on the outside and even harder when it cooled). I agree with you that your steak looked better with a seared crust when cooked in a cast iron pan. Looking forward to see your (air) fried chicken...hee..hee! ;)
True true, nothing beats chicken deep fried in oil. I has an air fried chicken long ago at The (now closed) Salad Bar. I was not too impressed. The oil spray bottle is cheap and I bought two hah..hah..
DeleteMy air fried chicken will be coming out soon hee..hee..
You sure put the air fryer to its paces!
ReplyDeleteFully utilised!
Yes, the poor thing might break down by next year and I buy a bigger one! LOL!
DeleteI see that you are making good use of your air fryer and the food turned out beautiful. Now I am tempted to get one since it makes cooking so much easier and simplier. The chicken legs look so delicious.
ReplyDeleteI am happy with the air fryer. It will be ideal for you since most of the time you cook for just yourself and hubby. It is perfect for one or two persons.
DeleteWow! You cook so many different types of food with it already! All at once or over a few days? Looks tasty! I will eat them anytime. Girl girl face is really like annoyed at you cos you purposely cook the chicken that way until she cannot eat it.
ReplyDeleteAll on a Sunday and (like you) eaten over several days. LOL! Girl Girl gives me that look whenever she is annoyed with me.
DeleteMost important is cleaner kitchen and the taste is good and acceptable. Those chicken wings look so tasty!
ReplyDeleteI also find that it is more convenient to use the air fryer. So worth buying!
