Sunday Food Prep

So. I went to 1 Utama again for my grocery shopping (and yes, I was first in the queue again. LOL!).

The previous weekend when the mall reopened I found that it was all right to visit since there were not many shoppers and I felt safe in terms of social distancing.

I had expected more people the following week but I guess many are still wary.

Now only I notice the Magnum Macadamia Salted Caramel hah..hah... Next week I want to buy some to try.

It was so deserted, usually even at this early hour, there would be many shoppers.

So I easily zipped around to get what I wanted. In the past, I had to wait patiently for others to leave the aisle (some take their own bloody sweet time) before I could select my vegetables.

Wah seh! Mooncakes are still being sold. Tai Thong mooncakes. At very attractive prices.

Very cheap!

This is the car park when we left at around 10:30am. This area is usually the preferred parking spot because it is near the entrance. You would be lucky to find a spot at peak hours but now, you are lucky every time.

Back home, I started my food prep engine. These are roasted chicken legs. I deboned them before marinating and roasting. I did not throw away the bones but instead used them to make chicken stock. No waste!

Then I roasted some broccoli.

I haven't made these in ages.

I also roasted some eggplants, blanched another batch of broccoli and sliced a few vegetables.

Then it was time for assembly. This week's theme is salads, something easy to prepare and can be eaten cold.

As you can see, I am reducing my carbo intake.

I'll still eat carbs on certain days especially weekends. No need to be too strict. I enjoy overnight oats in the morning.

While I was busy in the kitchen, my two cats were taking their nap in the living room. Life as a cat is good.

As you already know, this is Belle.

She looks so angelic. But. She can look evil too.

I thought she looked rather aggressive. Those eyes!

This photo was taken last week, during her early stages at home. What is she looking at?

Ah Girl was very annoyed that her spot on the arm chair was taken by this intruder. For four consecutive days since Belle joined the family, Ah Girl whined and made a fuss in the evenings. Really gave me a headache!

But things are improving. I'll tell you about it soon.

  3. Love your bell peppers food prep! Sedap! Good that you dare to go 1u else they are open for nothing if no one goes. Belle knows how to enjoy life. She knows immediately that the sofa is the best seat there. Ah Girl is complaining to you in the evening but good that she is accepting Belle slowly. Can't wait to read your cerita about your two babies.

    2. Belle must be an indoor cat for a long time seeing how fast she made herself comfy in the house.

  4. I think u went 1U at the best timing as they meticulously disinfected the whole place after those Covid cases :P
Time is definitely hard now for F&B industry (other industries also actually), TT mooncakes for less than RM5, haiz...
I wonder where you keep your salad meal? Chiller or freezer?

  5. I also took many photos of the ghost town inside 1-U. I better find different photos to re-write my blog post now. LOLOL

I am attracted to the cheap mooncakes now but I still have a few to finish them in my fridge. This is the first time TT is selling leftovers below costs. The pandemic is very scary.

    1. I was very tempted to buy the mooncakes but the expiry is in November. I might end up eating too many and end up putting on more fats. LOL!

    1. I don't know about other malls but even the Starling is quiet. The number of cases are very high these days. Scary!

    1. Me too, less crowd, less chance for virus to spread. But still need to be careful with our hands and any contact surface.

  8. Wah, you can debone chicken legs yourself? Very keng-lah you! :D I get my (wet market) chicken seller to debone for me. Somehow, I still can't bring myself to eat raw capsicums...onions lagi no! That's why your food prep of salads are very suited for you...you like to eat your vegetables raw and food cold. I still prefer to roast and reheat them...hah..hah! P/S: I'm wondering why your roasted chicken have lots of liquid (mine is usually dry or, if got, only a bit). Do you save the juices too? Coz it seems like a waste as the flavour is all in there (maybe can make a sauce out of it). Since this is food prep, you can't leave the juices in otherwise the natural juices make for a good dressing for the salad...hehe! ;)

If I were Ah Girl, I'd be very annoyed too when someone takes my favourite spot on the chair. Looks like Belle is not intimidated by Ah Girl. Let's see who comes out the winner and bosses the other! ;D

    1. I buy the chicken via Grabmart and the seller does not provide deboning service for deliveries :( I have become quite adept at it by using kitchen scissors. I also don't know why there was so much liquid. Previously when I roasted whole legs, it was quite dry.

Belle is quite fierce and Girl as you know is timid. She gives way to Belle. I believe if she had been assertive, Belle would be put in her place. But good also lah. No cat fights. hah..hah..

  11. Wah nampak kosong sangat parking tu.. waktu beli darang dapur ni kalau tak ada orang senang dan cepat nak pilih barang.

Bagusnya lepas deboned ayam tu tulangnya dibuat stock ayam! *Thumbs up* kita gunakan semua bahagian sebaiknya dan jangan membazir.

Ah Girl tu mesti tak biasa lagi dengan kedatangan Belle. Lagi-lagi bila Belle ambil spot kegemarannya.
