Kimchi Stir Fry and Ah Girl is Angry with Me

This is another attempt to use up kimchi that has been fermenting in my fridge. It turned out rather delicious. To me lah hah..hah...

Things have not been so smooth for the past week. Somebody couldn't stand somebody.

Look at the fed up face.

Does Ah Girl look super pissed? Let me tell you the story.

For the first four days after Belle was taken in, Ah Girl was acting up. I can't blame her. Belle was all over the place. She helped herself to Ah Girl's favorite spots in the house and she even ate from Ah Girl's food bowl.

Every evening, Ah Girl refused to eat (and Belle ate up her food) and made a fuss by whining and whimpering. It was super annoying but what can I do?

So. Finally last Thursday, Ah Girl, like mafia, sent me a diabolical message.

She pooped on the sofa. The sofa that I sleep on. ARRRRRGGHHHH!!!!!!

I was freaked out but I held myself together. Chill...chill...chill... Of course I snapped at her for her impertinence. Then I calmly cleaned up and had the the bedsheet rinsed and thrown into the washing machine with loads of Dettol.

Then I went upstairs for my shower. Ah Girl was at her usual spot outside my room, sulking. I sat down next to her and petted her while telling her gently (not that she understood) that we must be more patient and altruistic towards Belle.

Then she followed me into my room. I usually do not allow her inside but that evening I made an exception. Ah Girl has been feeling dejected.

This is her lying on mommy's pajamas. Please excuse the mess. My bed is always a mess on weekdays.

I manja-manja with her, assuring her of her place in my heart and in my home. Aiyah Girl! Mommy loves you very, very much!

She seemed all right after that.

That evening, it was peace and quiet. Ah Girl stopped making a fuss. It has been like that up till now. Good girl. She is more accommodating towards Belle now.

The two fat makciks (including the fat owner) hanging out.

Is Ma cooking kimchi again? It smells funny in here.

Sharing a gossip or two.

Now back to my stinky kimchi which my two cats do not appreciate.

No recipe required for this, really. Not that anybody cares. Just marinate the minced pork (or chicken) with some light soya sauce, a bit of minced ginger, sesame oil and pepper.

Heat up the wok, stir fry the minced meat until no longer pink and add kimchi and some kimchi juice for moisture. Add some gochugaru and gojuchang for color and flavor. Taste and if necessary add some light soya sauce. Stir fry till almost all the moisture has evaporated.

Done! Serve with rice and a Mayak egg. So, so good!

Ma....please stop cooking kimchi...I get headaches from the smell...

  2. I may not be a fan of kimchi but looking at your kimchi stir fry, I would be tempted to taste it because it looks so delicious. So now, you have Girl on your right and Belle on your left. In the photo, Belle looks so much bigger than Girl.

    1. Belle is actually smaller but the camera angle made her look bigger. She is also very light.

  7. Your Ah Girl is more tolerant and loving compared to my sister's 2 cats. The Matriarch cat took many weeks to accept the new comer. Animals are strange sometimes.

Many people cannot stand the smell of KimChi not just cats but I love them. Your dish with generous sesame seeds looked very Korean styled. Hope your opah lahling will learn to eat them if not no honeymoon for you at Nami Island or Winter Sonata.

    1. Animals can also feel jealousy and I believe that was what Ah Girl felt. She is all right now but the two of them don't interact much.

TM, have you been to Kitchen Goheung at Solaris Mont Kiara? I tried the food via delivery recently and it was so good. You would appreciate it.

  9. Oh dear, that's the reason why I don't want to take in another cat...adoi! I've heard of cats peeing on their owner's bed when they're pissed off. Perhaps Ah Girl pooped on the sofa to cover Belle's scent. Or maybe she can't poop in the same litter box that Belle has pooped in. I heard you may need an extra litter box when you have another 1 - 2 cats in the household. I've no experience in integrating cats but you have done a commendable job. Here's to them being bosom buddies soon! ;)

Omg, now that you've photographed the two cats together, Belle is even fatter than Girl. P/S: May I ask why Belle's fur always look wet in some places? Is it because it's still matted? Her fur seems to be longer.

    1. Poor ah girl. She must be jealous and feel threatened by belle's presence. So sweet and kind hearted of you to console ah girl and say kind words to her. Hope all goes well with your two cats.

Your homemade kimchi looks so delicious, i can have a lot of them.

    2. Kris : Oh ya, two litter boxes. They must have their own. So you can imagine that I have to clear two litter boxes twice a day. Now I have to double my order of litter too. Haiz! Belle is actually smaller than Girl. It was the camera angle that made her look huge hah..hah... She is also very light compared to Girl.

You are very observant. Her fur is not only matted but wet and stinky. I am taking her to the vet again for consultation. It could be some sort of skin infection. I have temporarily housed her outside due to her condition. Hope she can come back inside soon.

    3. Libby : Yes, I believe she is jealous but she is all right now. She just avoids Belle and it may take a bit of time for them to accept each other. I am hoping for them to become friends eventually.

  10. Animals sure got feelings too... jealousy included! Last time I dog-sitted one small dog... my big doggie kept coming in between me and the small dog... almost like blocking me from talking to the small one... hahaha... now thinking back, I am really bad cos I purposely kept on making her jealous...
I don't think kimchi has a weird smell... soon I will have kimchi to eat.. my kids are coming back this weekend!

    1. Now I love kimchi after making my own. The reason why I disliked kimchi last time was because the one at the restaurant was very fermented and sour. I prefer to eat kimchi when it is freshly made. Sedap!

  13. You know what..ekceli the cat can understand what we said to them, so thats why after you console ah girl, she become more tolerate. One of my fren alway gives food to stray cat, she said the cat will pray for her and dia selalu murah rezeki you know.
