My 53rd Birthday. So Old Ah?

My birthday fell on Sunday and since I already had a celebration with my brother and my partner, there was nothing special on the cards on the actual day itself. Had it been a weekday, I would have treated myself to a nice lunch.

The first person to wish me Happy Birthday was my partner, followed by my mum and my auntie (who sang a birthday song via voice message. So cute!). And then I got one from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia wahahaha!!!

I believe this is the first year that they are sending birthday greetings to taxpayers. The greetings said "Happy Birthday. May you live long, prosper and continue to contribute to the development of the nation".

In other words, may you make more money and pay more tax hah..hah...hah... Anyway, thank you LHDN. By the way, this year's tax refund was super fast heh..heh...

Sunday is Sunday, birthday or not, kitchen operations run like normal. Since I am so stoked with food prep, I did my thing with gusto.

These are all my raw ingredients - Japanese cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, marinated chicken breasts (yes, you heard right), marinated chicken thighs, asparagus, an onion and eggs.

That's not all, there were two boxes of mushrooms that didn't make it for the photoshoot. The rice was cooking in the rice cooker.

My veggies were all processed and these are meant for my salad bowl (except the broccoli).

The protein will join them after I cook the chicken breasts. I don't like chicken breast but I recently tried cooking them the way I see the TV chefs do.

Sear the breasts in a hot pan and then grill them in the oven. It took just 20 minutes in the oven and I was very surprised that the meat turned out so tender and moist.

Sorry I don't have photos of the cooked meat. I was quite kelam kabut because I had to rush so that I could phone my mum. I am not big on phone calls but the folks like it, so. Yes, I admit that I don't phone my mum as often as I should. Guilty as charged!

This is the toban djan honey chicken. This one will go with rice, asparagus, mushrooms and broccoli.

I waited for it to cool before deboning and distributing into my containers.

The whole time, my cat was chilling out in the dining room. She got to eat some chicken breast, so I guess she was happy.

My lunch prep all ready to go into the fridge. The salad bowls are meant for dinner. I think I will feature my weekly food preps and maybe share some tips in my future blog posts.

Oh ya. Here's a photo of my salad bowl which I ate at the office (I eat my dinner early). Not a pretty picture but you get the idea.

So what's for lunch? I had a late lunch because I had to settle the phone chat with my mum first (she sang me a birthday song. So sweet of my mum).

You see, when doing food prep I usually end up with more than enough material. So what does not go into the food containers will become my lunch (or even part of dinner). Practical, eh?

Dinner I ordered from Grabfood heh..heh...

I had rice, eggs and vegetables leftover from my food prep and these were collected in my container.

So I basically just ordered a Peratal Lamb and Kadai Spiced Mixed Vegetables from Matcha & Co. to supplement the leftovers. Since there was a 50% HOTDEALS promotion, my order cost me only RM12.16 (excluding delivery). The curries were so very good!

Alas, it was time for bed. My cat was already upstairs at her usual spot outside my room.

Nite nite Mommy! And Happy Birthday! hee..hee...

  8. I'm assuming you didn't reheat your lunch prep (in the metal containers) this time since you've lumped the rice and proteins together with the veggies but let it come to room temperature at the office as I remember you mentioning that you only reheat the rice and proteins. I can only tolerate eating cold food if it's a salad. P/S: I also follow her column on cats...sometimes dogs (every Sunday)! ;)

    1. Correct! I used basmati rice this time and it was not grainy unlike the 10 grain rice. At room temperature this meal was fine for me. And just to update you, there is no metallic taste coming from these stainless steel containers. I used to ignore Ellen Whyte's articles but after having my cat, I follow her column too.

  9. So funny and irony to receive birthday greeting from LHDN right lol! Good that the chicken breast meat tastes tender, usually i dont like breast meat as they tend to taste tough. Still so hardworking to food prep on your birthday, kudos to you. 53 is still young lah!

    1. Yes, and also I don't want the chicken to come into contact with the aluminum foil.
