Dry Laksa. Nice or Not?

After my first visit to Laksamaana (CLOSED), I had to return for the Dry Spicy Laksa. Just to satisfy my curiosity lah.

The dinner promotion was still on and this time, besides the Dry Spicy Laksa, I chose the Ayam Goreng Berempah as my snack. For drinks, I stuck to barley.

Let's start with the snack.

The Ayam Goreng Berempah was outstanding. Freshly fried and very well seasoned, each piece was moist and juicy. This is the best ayam goreng I have tasted.

And now to find out what the hype is all about. I mixed it all up before having a taste.

Yes, very nice. I liked this and I love the chewy laksa noodles. But what I think would make this "meletop" would be a little bit more laksa paste and a generous sprinkling of herbs like mint, daun kesom (laksa leaves) and daun selasih (local basil). And a dollop of sambal belacan. A few more slivers of pineapple would not hurt either.

In spite of what it says on the flyer, some of you have left me comments in my previous post saying that dry laksa has been around for ages. But whatever, I enjoyed this one and I hope to try dry laksa at other places.

  1. I know nothing of laksa, but from the looks of your meal, I think I'd become a quick fan!!!

    1. Think of it as Asian pasta. It's delicious!

  2. Ha ... ha ... Phong Hong, your laksa looks more like a typical dry noodle. I still prefer laksa with clams 'hum'. Real laksa must have clams.

  3. Oh, you meant dry assam laksa...then it's the first-lah! I thought you meant dry curry laksa. Then again, this dry assam laksa looks like a cross between kon lo noodles (with minced meat, fish cake & fried onions) and nasi lemak (with ikan bilis, kacang, telur & timun) to me...hehe....very strange indeed! ;D Ya, what happened to all those herbs you mentioned (+ pineapple) in a typical assam laksa. I like how you termed ayam goreng berempah as a snack! ;)

  4. Nice, eh? I would enjoy that, I'm sure...and if it is extra hot, my missus would be the No. 1 fan. The ayam berempah looks like macam kurang berempah, can hardly see all the rempah ingredients.

  6. I think I would give the dry laksa a miss since I can't take spicy food and I don't like chewy laksa noodles because I find it difficult to chew them into fine pieces without taking a long. But I would definitely go to try the delicious ayam goreng!

  10. I also prefer the chewy type of laksa noodles too, not those rice type ones, they break easily and taste kind of "floury"... I have not tried dried laksa outside before but tried those cook by my sister-in-law...not bad but I still prefer the laksa soup.. :)

  15. I find the local hawker fares have often swayed away from its original tastes. Now we have dry laksa, wet CKT, Chikuteh and macam-macam lagi. I am tempted to try this Dry version for once though I dislike their fat noodles which is not the same as the ones sold in Penang. I am very tempted to try that fried chicken which you announced as the best you have eaten.

    1. Hainom, rasa dia macam asam laksa. Boleh tahan sedap. Kalau ada daun kesom atau daun pudina, lagi terangkat.
