So I made some fried chicken nuggets. Unhealthy, right? So I made a plate of salad. They should cancel each other out. Hah!
My dressing of choice? Ranch dressing naturally because that's what I made to dip my chicken nuggets in.
My first taste of Ranch dressing was at Chili's. At the time, I had no idea it was Ranch dressing. It had a sourish taste and a somewhat fermented smell (what I would call "chau sui" in Hokkien) but somehow I liked it. So I kept dipping my chicken crispers and Buffalo wings in it. Heck, I even dipped my fries in it.
Now that I know it is Ranch dressing, I found a recipe that I like very much. I like it so much that I can practically drink it. So yummy as a dip for anything deep fried and also as a salad dressing. In fact I also add it to coleslaw.
So here's the recipe which I highly recommend to Ranch dressing lovers.
Ranch Dressing
Recipe source : Adapted from Platefodder
Ingredients :
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder (because I didn't have onion powder)
- 2 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
Method :
1. Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until everything is all combined.
2. Store in the bottle and keep refrigerated (can keep for 2 weeks)
Note : This dressing is watery since there are no thickeners added unlike bottled commercial dressing.
I like Ranch dressing too. I could dip fries, anything in it. The sour but not overly sour, just nice.
ReplyDeleteYou are so hardworking in making own dressing but then again, not many ingredients and hard work to it. I could try it out myself. Thanks for sharing.
Happy weekend!
It's quite an easy dressing to make and so delicious. Worth the little time that I spent :)
Deletein your list of ingredients, what is the item that gives the ranch dressing the taste that you described as "chau sui"? the buttermilk or the mayo?
ReplyDeleteIt's the buttermilk
DeleteMun : Toby answered you hee..hee...
DeleteToby : Thanks, Toby for helping out :)
I think I will like the ranch dressing
ReplyDeleteI think so too. Very nice to dip fried stuff in it.
DeleteYou make your own? Gee!!! I just grab a bottle at the supermarket but of course, it does not come cheap.
ReplyDeleteYes, I make my own :) I don't buy the bottled one because I was afraid that the taste could be different.
DeleteI know you like to eat your Chicken Nuggets with Ranch Dressing...coz when I did a search on your blog on Ranch Dressing, Chicken Nuggets always seem to come up as well....hehe! :D I don't think I'll like this Ranch Dressing, especially so when you mentioned the words "chow so". Then again, the words "buttermilk" also signals to me that I probably won't like it since I'm not a big fan of butter or milk on its own.
ReplyDeleteAh...the sourish fermented smell might put you off. Like sour cream hee..hee... But this dressing is good. If you had a chance to try just a wee bit, who knows you might like it :)
DeleteAs I just had a cup of ten grains rice, I was salivating at your food. Yummy! Phong Hong's food looks so good as always.
ReplyDeleteYannie, this is not healthy food, so it may not make it into your books hah..hah..
DeleteI just had papaya for lunch and am now drooling over your bowl of chicken nuggets with salad!
ReplyDeleteNancy, papaya is a much healthier option hah..hah..
DeleteHi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteDrooling over your bowl of chicken nuggets with salad & ranch dressing. I like ranch dressing too ... but I won't drink it lah! Super yummy as dip for anything. Once I dip it with celery and carrot sticks. Healthier version lol.
Hi Karen! Ya, I also like to dip celery sticks in it. Healthy vege + not-so-healthy dressing :D
DeleteSounds like a nice dressing, not plain like normal mayonnaise...
ReplyDeleteIt's nice especially with fried chicken.
DeleteI'm rather fond of ranch dressing too.
ReplyDeleteHigh 5!
DeleteThe dressing sounds yummy! I would love to have a piece of your chicken nugget too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Veronica! The chicken nuggets go hand in hand with the dressing.
DeleteI know what you mean about salad and range dressing. It's a beautiful partnership
ReplyDeleteIt sure is!
DeleteHi Phong Hong, you're smart. Sometimes when I enjoy some 'sinful' dishes there are lots of other vege dishes 'not shown in photos'. I wouldn't mind at all to enjoy the nuggets with this lovely salad. Yum Yum.
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmy! We must balance out the healthy and not-so-healthy hah..hah...
DeleteUnhealthy, but nice, for me, i can't resist, hehe...
ReplyDeletehee..hee..eat first, worry later...
DeleteCantiknya! Warna warni yang mengundang selera!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amie!
DeleteHi Phong Hong, your chicken nuggets with salad look finger licking good. The salad should balance with the nuggets. :)) It's ok to indulge in our favorite food but in moderate amount.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend, regards.
Amelia

ReplyDeletePhong , in case you didn't know.... you can decrease the "wateriness" of the dressing by reducing the buttermilk up to 1/2 cup. You'll get enough of the buttermilk tang, but it will be more suited for dipping. I intentionally made the dressing on the thin side... because that's the way it was originally made.
ReplyDeleteHi Toby! OK, got it :) Thanks for this wonderful recipe!
DeleteYou are also teaching me what is Ranch Dressing today. I have been eating their buffalo wings for several years now. They are so yummy exactly like those served in USA.
ReplyDeleteI love buffalo wings dipped in ranch dressing!
DeleteMacam macam jenis dressing lah you ni LL hihi.....
ReplyDeleteSenang je ye LL nak buatnya tu
LL suka salad, so kena lah main2 dengan berjenis2 dressing. Kalau Hainom pergi Chillis, boleh lah try ranch dressing.
