Nasi Lemak Tanglin, Damansara Uptown

Finally, I walked into Nasi Lemak Tanglin today. It is situated at Menara TH, Uptown 3.

This spot used to be occupied by Rawsome, which did not last very long. In fact Lembaga Tabung Haji has vacated its office next to the restaurant.

I was not too keen to visit initially based on the low 3.6 score on Google reviews. But what the heck, I read a positive review by eatwhateatwhere, though hers was from the Jalan Tun Perak outlet.

As I approached the food counter, I noted the menu on the wall. There was quite a list of items, including dishes for nasi campur.

The print is quite small, this auntie had to squint her eyes to read the menu hah..hah...

Since I was there for the nasi lemak, I settled for the Nasi Lemak Daging and I tambah two items - paru (lungs) and limpa (spleen). I have a thing for organ meats.

The very polite young man filled my plate the total bill came to RM20.00.

There you have it, my plate of nasi lemak with ikan bilis & peanuts, paru, a nice chunk of beef rendang and limpa.

The beef was tender and I noted that the rendang gravy is the saucy type. I am more used to thicker gravy and I found the rendang flavor different than what I am familiar with. But having said that, I did not dislike it though I found the rendang gravy to be a bit too sweet and a bit too pedas. But still enjoyable.

This is the first time I am eating limpa (spleen). It is fried till crispy and the texture is meaty, perhaps like liver. I can't really tell what it tastes like on its own since it was doused in rendang gravy.

In case you were wondering, yes, there was half a boiled egg buried under the limpa.

As for the rice, it was very fragrant and the grains of rice were well separated. Yes, I loved the rice and this nasi lemak can stand on its own. As for the sambal, I think it was quite diluted and not much was given, perhaps the adek felt that I did not need so much in view of the rendang gravy. Maybe next round I will get something with no gravy so that I can taste the sambal.

The paru (lungs) was a hit and miss because some pieces were fried until very dry while there were chunks and pieces that were moist and spongy. No complaints on the ikan bilis and peanuts as they were fresh and crispy.

Overall, I think this plate of nasi lemak was more than decent and Nasi Lemak Tanglin, Damansara Uptown deserves more than a 3.6 rating.

I think it is worth a revisit to check out their nasi lemak ayam goreng or even the nasi campur. But I must be honest about something - I was very thirsty after this lunch.

  1. Wah, too pedas means no no for me. Nowadays I buy nasi lemak I will say Tak mau sambal and the seller will roll their eyes at me secretly for not knowing how to enjoy sambal. Must confess I wasn't fed paru when young so I don't dare to try them now. What should be the texture of the party - spongy or crispy - after being fried?

    1. LOL! Paru should be crispy on outside and spongy on inside, baru sedap!

    1. I really don't know if the name Tanglin has anything to do with Singapore.

  3. I love beef rendang but prefer the type with thick gravy. I like nasi lemak with sambal. I don't eat paru and spleen, never even tried. Lol!

  5. Long time I did not eat Nasi Lemak Malay styled, used to have them during my 33 years of working then. Yes, like Nancy, I have not tried their organs before, and now thinking back, I am missing Rendang Tok!

  6. Hmm.....Rendang gravy that's sweet and spicy at the same time, your description really made me curious, hehe :P
I'm not into organ meat due to the "distinctive taste" of them. The Paru pieces for me, were very burnt, so the dish should look like this?

    1. The paru was over fried in my opinion, so some of them were hard and dry. Not so nice.

  7. Aiyayayaya....different cooks, different result? The rendang I had certainly looked different from yours and it wasn't watery. Neither did I get sweet and spicy flavours from the rendang (and you know I can't take spicy like you do). As for the paru and limpa, I've never ordered them coz they always look chewy and over-fried (in many Malay chap fan places) just like how they do the hati. Don't know why this branch has nasi campur as that's not their forte. I would recommend you to try their sotong (if you do revisit) since that's their best thing...and if their sotong don't cut it, I think you can skip this Tanglin branch altogether.

    1. Looks like no consistency among branches! There is also one listed as food truck at TTDI on Grabfood. You are right, the organ meats tend to be fried to death. LOL!

  8. I definitely like this type of Nasi Lemak by Uptown's Nasi Lemak Tanglin. It is the wet look with dark gravy that attracts me. I think I saw the truck in my neighborhood area but I gave up supporting most trucks because of their stiff pricing and long wait under the sun. TM can pengsan easily nowadays cos turn into lilin.
So I rather park at Starling Mall and jalan to that restaurant.

Something spooky happened at my latest post. You, Nancy and other's comments didn't appear on my post but safely captured inside my notifications email. That's how I got to read them all. This is the first time that a number of comments disappeared. Woohoohoo! Niak niak!
