Dah Makan? Dah!

You know, I have never tried food delivery (except for Pizza Hut and Dominos in the very distant past). Not even Grabfood. Not even Foodpanda

A while back I read about dahmakan from a few blogs but was not moved to give it a try. Then very recently, I read about it again on Eat what, Eat where? Based on the positive review and the fact that lately I have been too busy to food prep, I decided to give it a try.

Kris has already written an excellent and comprehensive review on dahmakan, so I will just share with you the makan part hah...hah....

So. For starters, Kris shared her invite code which entitles the receiver to a RM40 credit to be used to off-set against initial orders. So far, I have made 3 orders and have had RM10 set off against each order. So I have another RM10 at my disposal for order # 4.

Let's see what I got. For my first order, I simply had to try the Braised Beef Brisket with Mashed Potatoes and Tomato Salsa (RM31.00, I paid RM21.00 after RM10.00 credit). I was quite excited hee...hee....

I chose the 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm time slot but there was a delay. My order arrived at 1:20pm. The rider came right up to my office to deliver this very nice paper box with apologies for the delay.

Inside .........

Oh.... that looks good!

Oh yes, it was very tasty indeed! The beef brisket was very tender and well seasoned. I loved the mashed potatoes as it had some chunky bits and it paired well with the beef.

As for the tomato salsa, it was not much of a salsa to me, basically just roasted cherry tomatoes with a bit of herbs. The corn was all right, a bit difficult to eat at the office. Portion wise, it was just right, though I could eat more hee...hee... So I got on to a good start with this choice.

Now order # 2. Satay Chicken (RM23.90, I paid RM13.90 after RM10.00 credit). This time a different rider delivered and I had to go downstairs to collect from him. That's ok, I do need the exercise.

Upon opening the box, I could smell the aroma of curry leaves from the curry leaf infused rice. I was pleased to note that chicken thigh (tender and juicy) was served instead of breast (which I detest).

The seasoning on the chicken was subtle and allowed the more than decent satay sauce to do its job. The amount of sauce was just nice to coat the chicken, though I would not mind a bit more.

The portion of rice was quite generous and so was the chicken. My only complaint is that the rice was a bit mushy. Other than that, I enjoyed this meal and it was very filling (due to the rice).

Now for meal #3, the most good looking of the lot. Roast Chicken Breast with Corn Salsa and Gremolata (RM24.90, I paid RM11.90 after RM10 credit and another RM3 which I don't know how I got it).

Since I ordered this for home delivery, I have a bit more time to tinker around and tell you long stories.

This is how it looked on the menu :

OK, why chicken breast you ask? Don't you hate chicken breast? Well, I just had to try it because of the corn salsa and gremolata, ok? Plus I'm a sucker for pretty pictures.

I chose the 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm slot and later I got this message :

Then in a little bit I got this message :

So I got ready (made sure I removed my bedak sejuk) and then another message :

Okie dokies, I gotta go downstairs and be ready to take delivery.

I eat early, so without further ado...

I definitely have better lighting at home and this meal looks pretty presentable.

The green gremolata sauce is pretty much like chimichurri  so I liked it. As for the corn salsa, it was just ok for me. And as expected, I did not enjoy the chicken breast and the seasoning used.

This meal was very filling as the portion of chicken was very generous. But I won't repeat order this one because it's not to my taste.

So. What will I use my last RM10 credit for? Looking at the menu, there are a few I am contemplating :

This :

This :

This :

Or this :

We'll see ............

To anyone who is interested in getting the promo code for the RM40 credit (first time users only), you go visit Kris and ask her for the code, ok? I also got code lah but I am very busy for the next few weeks and may not be able to reply emails. Or even cook. Hah!

  1. Ooooo...jagung, lots of jagung! I have that in my blogpost today. If we have such home deliveries here, I will just order, no need to go through the trouble of cooking my own.

    1. I might get lazy after this hee..hee... There's nothing like someone else cooking and serving you and you just throw away the box!

  2. Oh wow, so fast...and you've already tried 3 meals. Glad you enjoyed two out of the three. Since dahmakan is championing healthy eating, there are lots of chicken breast on the menu unfortunately. If the meal consists of chicken breast, I'm glad that they state it clearly on the menu (that's why I only order chicken thigh...haha!). For you to say that the portions are filling, it clearly shows that they do give good-sized portions.

As for the RM40 credit, I wasn't aware that it had to be used that way, so thanks for detailing how it actually works. I thought the RM40 can be used to offset the nett of your orders but you've clearly shown that it's supposed to be used over 4 meals with a RM10 discount for each meal (so I'll need to update my blog on this).

And, please my dear, your readers should so get the unique invite code from you, they're your readers after all (so please amend your last paragraph and include the code). It's not that I'll get 'rich' overnight with the RM10 I get for each invite...hahaha! :D Anyway, only you and Choi Yen have asked for the invite code. So, maybe people are 1) too shy to ask or 2) they have a lot of cha ching & don't need free food (I wished someone had given me an invite) or 3) many already have ordered from dahmakan before? Which one do you think it is? ;)

As for your next order, I've eaten the BBQ chicken rice (the sauces and portions are good but the BBQ chicken is, of course, no match for those roast chicken stalls) and the spaghetti bolognese (you cook this so often it might not be up to your standard...hehe). Maybe you want to wait and see what I had for my next 5 meals?...kekeke! ;)

I'm guessing the RM3 you got could be an early bird discount for dinner since you chose such an early delivery time? Sometimes they also give out "we're sorry" discounts for late deliveries but that is usually accompanied by an email, so you'd know about it. If you want food that's ok tasting which gives you time off from labouring in the kitchen with food prep (we all do), you should so sign up for Select membership. I used that for a month and then cancelled the membership (to take a break from the food) and will probably sign up again after a few months time.

    1. Yup, thanks to you I finally tried it and enjoyed it! Yes, the portions seem quite ample but there are some selections that are not so filling.

I think dahmakan has to spread out the RM40 credit so that we come back at least 4 times hah..hah...

Look, whether readers get the code from me or you, it does not matter lah. I have shared my code with some friends and family and I found out that among others, my two brothers had already signed up long before I did! I think most people simply don't bother to ask unless if they are really interested to try the food.

I decided on nasi lemak for my next order hah..hah.. And yup, I signed up for Select membership since the prices of the food is quite attractive. So you may not see anymore cooking or food prep posts from me for a while hah...hah...

    2. Good for you...for signing up for Select membership. We all deserve a break every now and then from all the food prep and cooking. Yay, here's to no labouring over a hot stove for a month...or maybe more (in your case)? Do share-share what you eat...that way we can at least know which ones we should avoid (haha!) when I do order or re-sign for membership again.

    3. Yes, I will definitely share the experience. By the way, the nasi lemak was not as good as I had expected :(

    4. My recommendation would be to stay away from those dishes that we will ultimately compare with hawker food we can get at coffee shops like chicken rice, nasi lemak, curry laksa, pan mee, so forth, as they will never be as good or meet expectations or be as cheap. Go for those that are different (which you don't normally get) from hawker stalls and even some restaurants.

    5. That's good advice. Somehow nasi lemak is so irresistible. I find myself gravitating towards the premium meals and they have not disappointed me so far.

  3. So many choices for the home delivery menu, i wouldn't know which one to choose. I have tried foodpanda before and the service was good. Very efficient as they will send you messages and updates when they are preparing the food, on the way etc.

  5. I have enjoyed many meals from this service. I do wish they would stop sending all of the additional single-use cutlery though - or at least give an option to choose if you want it.

    1. Oh yes, I agree with you on the single use cutlery. I don't use it anyway as I don't like plastic cutlery.

  6. I've only used dahmakan once, using a promo code from a friend.
But I've used the 50% promo codes by Grabfood and foodpanda many times. LOL

  7. I prefer beef than chicken dishes. What seasoning was that you did not like on the chicken?

    1. Me too. I always choose beef over chicken. The seasoning was a bit strong on cumin and some other spices.

  8. dahmakan does a great job with the consistency of its meals. deliveries are becoming our future, instead of going out to restaurants! it's tuesday and i haven't gone out to eat yet this week cos i've only ordered food in :)

  10. If I start to learn and order for my food, I think I will be very tempted to close my kitchen and also stop my vegetable gardening. Lol! I prefer pork or beef to chicken. I too dislike chicken breast.
