No Need to Cook!

With readily available food with such variety from the chap fan (mixed rice/nasi campur) stalls, there is no need to cook right? Right!

Which is why madam is so lazy these days and prefers to eat out rather than muck around in the kitchen.

Well, I do cook weekends but I have (temporarily) stopped my food preps for the week.

Kangkung, brinjal, tofu and marmite chicken.
If I prepare my own food, there is very little room for variety. I used to be OK with eating the same stuff for days but I have become rather spoilt.

Bittergourd, brinjal and oinks.
At the chap fan stall, there are so many dishes to tempt me and I have succumbed to the convenience.

Kangkung, kai choy and marmite chicken.
The food may not be healthy (deep fried, lots of sauces) but it is damn tasty! I am addicted to marmite chicken at the moment.

Sausages, ladies fingers, chicken in sauce and choi tam.
Sometimes I come across dodgy food. Like these mini sausages. I couldn't resist. But upon first bite, ughs! It's all starch and artificial flavoring. Won't ever touch that again.

Omelette, oinks, cauliflower and long beans.
I normally take one meat and 2 vegetables. But sometimes I am very hungry and I go for 4 items. Usually the additional item is egg or tofu.

Marmite chicken (again!), tofu, sambal wing beans and kai choy.
I eat a lot when I am very hungry. I have cut down on my portion sizes but when my stomach is growling loudly, well, I have to have bigger portions hee..hee...

At Restoran Home Kitchen, they serve you a bowl of complimentary soup. Sometimes they come with a short write up.

Alamak. Marmite chicken again. Tsk! With cabbage, bittergourd omelette and spinach.
I even have my dinner at Home Kitchen because it's so convenient. With dinner taken care of, I can head straight upstairs for my shower when I get home.

Acar, kai choy and sweet and sour chicken.
The last thing I want to do when reaching home late is to struggle in the kitchen and all that washing up.

Ladies fingers, brinjals and sweet and sour oinks.
Will I get tired of this? Maybe. Maybe not. We'll see :)

Chicken with mui choy, choi tam and bittergourd.

  1. I really appreciate home cooking but I do find it hard to squeeze in enough time to prepare it - and, like you, if I prepare food at home it tends to be the same things.

    1. That's the problem. But I believe I will do my lunch prep someday when I get tired of food from the stalls.

  2. all the above are with no rice? I guess so, correct? I love to eat marmite fish slices. very tasty. I agree with saving energy and time by eating out. The food looks good and is not that unhealthy like some people think. some when they cook at home also use MSG so not that healthy either so no matter if eat out. hahaha of course I say this cos I eat out all the time.

  4. I love all the dishes. I love even more when eating without rice. I won't feel that guilty when eating many dishes like this with no rice.

It will be even better when cutting down on processed food, fried food and oily food.

  5. Apa-lah, you have been camping inside that Home Kitchen while I stuck my neck stalking that God Ma Hong at Starling. Looks like I need to ambush you at this kopi tiam. Someone will cover your head with a gunny sack and point a sausage at your neck!!
Don't scream when you hear the word "password??"
    Just reply - "Marmite Chicken".

  6. I see you only frequent two shops for your chap fan. No, no, I'm not stalking you (like TM...haha!). What I meant was...I see two different coloured tables and two types of colour plates (one white...from Home Kitchen) and the other blue...from 'the chap fan lady who finally spoke to you in Cantonese which you don't understand'! ;)

  7. Yum yummmmm!!! I am not a fan of most of the Chinese chap fan places here - generally, all the same boring stuff, oily and msg overload. I do frequent the Malay stalls though - their choices are more to my liking.

  11. I love Chap Fan and I came across a few stalls that serve really nice Chap Fan, only one is near my house

But I must have white rice, without rice, the dishes will seem too salty and flavourful for me

  12. All the chap fun plates looks yummy! I have become lazy too since my water piping problem. Now that we had a new piping done, I am still struggling to start home cooking. So much easier to eat out, no long hours of preparation and dirty dishes and pans to wash. Lol!

  14. Hi Phong Hong, so long as you are happy and enjoy the food, that's most important. Learn to pamper yourself occasionally, the feeling is great. Nothing to worry.

  17. That's the problem when you cook at home. You tend to prepare the same dishes almost everyday! It is easier to buy, right?

I always spend an hour at the kitchen preparing for dinner and once I'm done, I will sigh when I look at the dishes. It seems I prepare almost the same menus everyday!

    1. I also like to ulang tayang my cooking because it's familiar and you know it will turn out well. Trying something new is risky. And variety means more work. Weekend we are supposed to relax, right?

  18. Ya'll should be happy in Malaysia, just goes out and get food prepared by hawker like this. In the US, we have to learn and cook home styles food. No matter what, cooking at home is the best and you know what you put in it and into your mouth. Chap fan looks so good, my mouth saliva here in Houston, TX
