Are you on holiday today? Thursday was Merdeka Day dan Friday was Hari Raya Haji. And the evening before Merdeka Day, our Prime Minister declared Monday (today) a public holiday due to Malaysia's exceptional achievement at the SEA Games. Sweet, eh?
Imagine that, a long weekend, 5 whole days of yippee!! Well, I am actually at work today. Why?! Because if there is anything worse than Monday blues, it's Tuesday blues.
Since everyone in Malaysia is on holiday today (hopefully), there will be no whiny phone calls (hopefully) from clients wanting this and that. And for once, Monday is not depressing. In fact I feel happy today.
So what did you do over the long weekend? Me? I cleaned my kitchen on Thursday and the rest of the house on Friday (including laundry, cooking etc).
On Saturday, I had a horror movie binge. I parked my ass on the sofa and watched two Ouija movies - Ouija (2014) and Ouija : Origin of Evil (2016). And yesterday, I watched The Conjuring 2.
OK, that's enough horror movies to keep me happy. Like I said before, I'm low maintenance. I hope my partner realizes how lucky he is hah...hah...
As for food, well, I had simple stuff not worthy of a blog post except for this awesome Chicken Kerabu. It's nothing new, I used my usual family recipe and since I haven't had kerabu for a while, this tasted so good.
I was blessed with some bunga kantan from my garden as well as a whole bunch of herbs. So this kerabu was an explosion of flavors which gave me so much pleasure!
So you can imagine how it was eating a big serving of kerabu while watching The Conjuring 2 (instead of popcorn and those crunchy stuff). I was going from yum!! to whoa!! to yeeeearrr!! to crap!! to don't go there!! all in one afternoon.
Yes, that movie spooked the hell out of me. I couldn't get that ugly nun out of my head. Crap.

Chicken Kerabu
Recipe source : Phong Hong
Ingredients :
For the salad ingredients :
- cucumbers, sliced
- carrots, grated
- onions, thinly sliced
- mint
- daun kesum, thinly sliced
- selasih, thinly sliced
- steamed chicken
For the dressing (this makes enough for 2 or 3 servings) :
- 1 tbsp dried prawns, soaked to soften
- 5 red chillies
- 3 cili padi
- 3 shallots
- 1 tbsp belacan (toasted)
- 1 tbsp plum sauce or sugar to taste
- juice from 2 to 3 limes (I used limau nipis) or to taste
Method :
1. To make the dressing, pound or blended dried prawns, chillies, shallots and belacan until fine.
2. Add lime juice and plum sauce (or sugar) and mix. Taste and adjust accordingly. It has to be sweet, sour and salty.
3. Put salad ingredients in a bowl and add some dressing and toss.
I was so happy to hear about the Monday holiday. I got off an overnight 5am flight this morning and was expecting to go straight from the airport to work (for a 7am start). You can imagine what a relief it was to go home instead. Yay for Malaysia!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Glad that you were able to have a day to rest after your flight.
DeleteAh, you must be happily working now with no distraction. Your kerabu looks so good that I can taste the mint leaves and appetising flavours in my mouth. I watched conjuring 1 so no conjuring 2 for me cos is too scary. Did your partner share the experience with you by watching conjuring 2 and eating kerabu by your side?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I even managed to tidy my office a little bit.No, I watched it alone in the early afternoon. It was very scary, even the starting part hee..hee...
DeleteIf watching Conjuring 2 doesn't wake you up, that bowl of kerabu will...with its spicy and sour flavours...haha! ;D Yup, Conjuring 2 was pretty scary.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a good scare in a long time and I always complain that they don't make scary movies like they used to. This one proved me wrong!
DeleteOops, now I'm not sure whether I should watch The Conjuring 2 - I knew quite a few nuns when I was young, and they were kinda scary too! ;)
ReplyDeletehah..hah...There was one particular nun at my kindergarten that I was terrified of. But seriously, that nun in the Conjuring 2 is super ghoulish!
DeleteThat's whylah horror movie is not my fevret..can't stop imagine the ugly face while I'm try to sleep, yaighh.
ReplyDeleteI pun nk tanam pokok kantanlah, where to find the benih eh?
hah..hah.. I ni cari pasal tengok horror movie sorang2. The pokok kantan I tanam from anak. Somebody gave me lah.
DeleteFirst time in history, five days of holidays and it is not Raya or CNY! So shiok for those working under employment and not so shiok for employers! hahaaha.. So you watched Conjuring 2... ahaha.. I was watching the first 10 minutes with my girl and then I told her why not we watched during the daytime, she readily agreed.. hahahaa..both of us chickens when it comes to horror movies but we still love to watch!
ReplyDeleteYeah, even the first 10 minutes was so scary hah..hah... If you like scary movie, watch Ouija : Origin of Evil. It's really good.
DeleteI made something like this using taugeh that day and called it taugeh kerabu but my girl insisted that a kerabu must have an assortment of vegetables all mixed together...so I renamed it taugeh salad instead. Hehehehe!!!
ReplyDeletehee..hee.. actually there is such a thing as taugeh kerabu.
DeleteHorror movie I like, PH homecooked food, I also like...
ReplyDeleteBoth also you like, good lah...
DeleteSounds like you had fun. I normally have the blanket over me or I hide behind hubby until he gives the all clear signal. Almost could see you with wide open eyes on the TV and busy hands popping the food into your mouth.
ReplyDeleteIt's strange that getting scared can be fun! hah..hah.. I like the way you watch horror movie with your hubby :D
DeleteNow that is something unusual to take while watching horror movies. Haha. Talking about binge while watching movies, we had movie marathons on Thursday and Friday. Hubby and I made a seaweed with almonds, pumpkins seeds snacks. Yum yum. Haha.
ReplyDeleteEverything back to normal after the long holiday. Need zzz early as kids start school tomorrow.
It's nice snacking while watching a movie. At the most I can only watch 2 movies in one sitting. Any more than that, I get headache hah..hah..
DeleteHorror movie plus food, interesting way 😀
ReplyDeleteIt makes both activities very enjoyable!
DeleteWow five days holidays for you guys!
ReplyDeleteNo horror movie for me.
hah..hah... Better not watch during this month :)
DeleteYour post is so hilarious and you sounded so cute to self-describe as low maintenance. Why your partner didn't realise it and still didn't want to go on his knees to propose to you??? Haiks!!! Let me meet him and bend his knees down with a bunch of Bunga Kantan with a ring from Poh Kong to slip into your jari. He also didn't know that you could scream like a cowboy from yum!! to whoa!! to yeeeearrr!! to crap!! Yeeee Haaaw!!! Muahahahahaha
ReplyDelete#PHcepatKahwinLah #CowboyHong #LowMaintenaceWifey
hah..hah... I love your gila babi comments! So hilarious lah until I LOL in the office! Luckily nobody was around. Don't worry about me, I am happy the way things are. I think his knees cannot bend already wahahahahaha!!
DeleteAre you sure you are a low maitenance? Your partner doesn't freak out when you ask him to teman you makan-makan kat luar ek and then teman you to watch horror movie, VIP class gitu? Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI also suka movie marathon. Selalu pun buat begitu dengan anak-anak dan suami. Tapi itulah genre I mostly horror and thriller. Lagi best sambil makan sambil tengok horror/thriller movie.
Betul, low maintenance. I don't need to go for holidays or buy expensive stuff bagai. My partner does not have time for movies kat MBO. Tapi kat rumah boleh lah hah..hah...
DeleteI super like to try your bowl of kerabu. I don't like horror movie, I prefer comedy!
ReplyDeletehah..hah... I also like comedy, they type that can make me ROTFL!
DeleteI worked on Monday too and I was lazy around the whole long weekends LOL
ReplyDeleteIt was a good opportunity for me to catch up om my chores and at the same time to chill out.
