Vegetables Are Delicious. No?

When I was a kid, I did not like vegetables. I know many of you will say that it is normal. By default, children do not like vegetables.

But my mum told me that if you introduced vegetables to children at a very young age, they will come to accept vegetables as part of their diet. Both my younger brothers did not have any issues with vegetables when they were young.

I grew up with my grandparents and my grandpa was an advocate of proteins. Protein, protein, protein and I was fed on lots of meat. I don't remember being encouraged to eat vegetables.

When my mum eventually observed my eating pattern, she was horrified. I remember spending the school holidays with my parents in Johor Bahru (my dad was posted there at the time) and mum made me eat veges.

It was not pleasant at first but in time to come, I learnt to accept and eventually love vegetables. From then onward, a meal is incomplete without vegetables.

I cooked this colorful medley of mixed fried vegetables for my weekday lunch. No recipe required 😉

  2. Wow! Your vegetables looked so colourful and happy to lure any kids. These days the veggies are cooked using innovative recipes that make them taste less awful and bitter with all types of sauces available. During my childhood, the veggies tasted like poisons! Bluek!

  3. I love the colours of your mixed vegetables stir-fry. Good to hear that you learn to love eating vegetables eventually. Some of my friends still don't like to eat vegetables although they are in their 50s now, lol.

  4. Vegetables are delicious. Yes! I agree with your mom that we should try to get (or encourage) children to eat vegetables from young. I didn't...so my son is not into vegetables so much (he only likes certain veggies) though he's slowly eating more types now...hehe! ;D

    1. That's not too bad that your son likes certain veges, better than none at all.

  6. I also did not have any issue with vegetables when I was young. My mum would take and place in my plate...and I was to eat all of it. The rotan placed strategically beside her said it all. No questions asked, no grumbling...no issue at all. LOL!!!

  7. Hi Phong Hong, vegetables are my girl's must have these days. When I introduced various vegetables to her when she was 6, she threw out all as if she choked herself. She thought I will not give her anymore vegetables but she was wrong. I switched to vegetarian diet for days. Nowadays, she will ask me why so little vegetables for dinner when there is only a plate of it.

  10. Rainbow diet

I love veg and will eat all of them.

I know some adults who do not eat veg. Will their be in the form of pellets or smelly or both? Another male adult has been eating veg esp spinach and brocoli after an internal investigation.

  11. My dishes isn't complete without vegetables, but my children also don't like vegetables, umar zikri the last one masa umur dia around 2,3 year, no problem with vege, but now dah 7 tahun makin tak suka sayur, geram betul.

Nice color lah, makan without nasi pun kenyang tu.

  14. When I was a kid, I imagine eating vegetables will be like eating the leaves of those big trees so it will be bitter and true enough vegetables are leaves and it does taste a little bit bitter
