It is located on the third floor of the mall (same floor as A Foodie's Nest). I am a fan of Korean cuisine, especially the barbeque, so the addition of another Korean restaurant is good news.
Last Friday, my original plan was to go to The Charcoal Grill for datenite because I wanted to eat Pork Fajitas.
The day before when I went to check Gu On's menu, I was approached by Daryl (I assume that's how his name is spelled) who was very helpful and he went through the menu with me. I liked what I saw and took note of his recommendations.
Alas it rained very heavily Friday evening so I suggested to my partner that we visit Gu On instead. When we got there, there was a crowd but we managed to get a table.
As soon as we were seated, these were served.
This is the Scorched Pork Lard Kimchi Fried Rice. The fried rice was served sizzling in a heated iron pan. It was flavorful from the generous sprinkling of fried sliced garlic.
I did not quite taste the pork lard although I will say that this fried rice was good but not outstanding. Portion wise, it is modest. The iron pan is wide but shallow and the rice was not quite enough shared between me and my partner.
I mixed everything up and I have to say that these noodles were bursting with flavors with a nice crunch coming from the shredded apples. This noodle is not to be missed.
There were lots of squid and shrimps in the crispy crunchy pancake and the generous fried onions added more crunch and flavor to the pancake.
The dip was absolutely fabulous and made the already awesome pancake even more addictive. This is another dish that is a must-order.
We shared a hot Cornsilk Tea which tasted like toasted brown rice. This tea is refillable but we did not ask for refills because we were both very stuffed (besides we only ordered one to share, so it would not be right to refill).
Well, it was a very encouraging visit and we will be back! And yes, I ate a lot of carbs hah...hah...hah...

Beautiful photos, dear friend! When I saw the lettuce, it reminds me of what my father called me (in joking, of course), a bunny because I love lettuce so much. Cold noodles do not appeal to me, and nor do cold pizza or cold poutine. There are just some things that I prefer hot. However, I know people who do like cold soup even, but we all have different tastes.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing, I always enjoy your posts and photos.
LOL! I love lettuce in salads. The Koreans also have a cold soup and I believe the Spanish too - gazpacho. I don't like cold soup >.< but cold noodles are OK since it is like a noodle salad.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your above statement π―
You are a good person ππ
I don't understand educated people who don't understand these sort of things.
For example many educated people uses TV boxes preloaded with unauthorized pirated streaming content without paying subscription from Ntflx, π tv and claimed that they are not doing any wrong.
π€¦
Well, I am honest and I believe we should all be ethical.
DeleteWow! After reading your description of the above food, I am drooling π€€π€€π€€ especially the shrimps condiments and the seafood pancake. π€€
ReplyDeleteIt's really good, worth visiting. I tried the set lunch and I enjoyed it a lot.
DeleteFinally, you enjoyed the cold noodles π₯Ά
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that ☺️
There is a Gu On Korean bbq in Sri Petaling.
I wonder are they the same?
The cold noodles were so tasty, like a noodle salad. Yes, they have a branch in Sri Petaling and TRX. Those locations might be more convenient for you?
DeleteYes those two locations are more accessible for me.
DeleteGood that Gu On is opened now for you to go on a datenight. My vote goes to the seafood pancake minus the squids. Don't think I will enjoy the cold noodles though, like Linda, as the only food I eat cold is salmon sashimi.
ReplyDeleteOh, you don't like squid and cold noodles. I loved the food and there will be repeat visits!
DeleteFor once you don't have to tell me it's good, I can see from the photos already...lol! I'd agree the perilla cold noodles is good just from the condiments itself (of shredded apple, seaweed, fish eggs & spring onions). Also the Korean pancake looks super crispy (and very different from the norm which usually contains a lot of flour) with loads of onions and garlic chives. As for the pork bone soup, I've not come across one that puts those tiny shrimps in (they look like cincaluk!). I've seen many photos of a soup that's orangy in colour (these must be the popular dishes including the two earlier ones...and the volcano steamed eggs which you didn't order)...maybe those had added chilli paste in them (which you didn't put in case your partner can't take the spiciness). Certainly a place to bookmark and apparently there are other branches in TRX and Sri Petaling. P/S: It's ok that you ate a lot of carbs...as long as the carbs are worth it! :D
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes, the carbs were very worth it! I would say that this is Korean restaurant is now my favorite (not that I have visited that many) and if you have the opportunity, you can visit one at a location convenient to you. Then let me know what you think!
