This year the festival falls on 06-10-2025. Usually it is in September and there were a couple of times when it was on my birthday heh...heh....
There is a Tong Kee near my office and I used to nip over to buy a mooncake or two. Not anymore (since 2023) because I don't eat mooncakes anymore.
There is even a very Japanese sounding brand, Momoyama. As you can see, mooncakes aren't cheap. You are spending all that money to eat sugar and spike your insulin hah..hah..
And don't be too comforted by the "low sugar" ones. They are still sugar and will do the job just a well as the regular ones.
Ah! Wagyu Beef Wellington Mooncakes! I don't know how much they cost but I know I can't afford them. They aren't carnivore compliant anyway due to the pastry casing.
Does this not look scrumptious? Grub at Section 17 which I visited with my brother back in 2017. Loved the food but we never returned due to parking issues.
Nowadays to visit is even more remote since we need a place with more accessible parking when we bring mum along. Well, maybe one day we shall revisit.

Beautiful quotation, dear friend. Would you believe that I have never tried a moon cake?
ReplyDeleteOh! It's sweet, so don't try it. LOL!
DeleteOops, that is one word, isn't it? Mooncake.
ReplyDeletehah..hah... Either way is fine!
DeleteLast year I didn't eat any mooncake and this year I have decided not to but when I saw sambal Mooncake on shopi I was too curious so bought one to try. After all discounts, it was about rm14 inclusive of delivery fees.
ReplyDeleteI can't blame you for being curious. Sambal mooncake sounds very appealing.
DeleteI wonder how Wagyu Beef Wellington Mooncakes are like? Minced or whole cubes. Hehehehe I am curious so let me search for more information. Thanks for pointing it out 😁
ReplyDeleteI wish I could try it but too expensive!
DeleteAh, they are similar to beef Wellington with a huge chunk of wagyu beef in the middle. Hkd888 which is about MYR 480 for 4 in a box so MYR 120 each. Need to bake it again at home. I wonder 🤔 how many pieces they would sell eventually.
ReplyDeleteYa, I also wonder the same. Some people with deep pockets who love Beef Wellington might spend on this.
DeleteI remember your review of Grub back in 2017 because after reading your review I wanted to try it but never got around to it. Hope you and your brother and mom could go there like you wish. Can take a grab there since parking is difficult. Nowadays we also take grab for convenience.
ReplyDeleteWe prefer our own transport because though Grab is convenient, sometimes it can be a hassle.
DeleteYa I guess you would need to weigh the pros and cons. If just you and your mom, I guess at that time you both would have no choice but to take grab so I guess your brother prefers driving than sit grab. Most drivers prefer own driving unless they really cannot drive anymore.
DeleteI had tried lychee and cassia flowers mini mooncakes before. They have Pu Er tea and blueberry flavours too. Beef mooncakes! How innovative can they get? But no, thank you. I am not buying mooncakes anymore. Too sweet for me now. Used to like yam mooncakes.
ReplyDeleteOh ya, I also liked the yam mooncakes with puff pastry casing.
DeleteHi PH, BW
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for dropping by!
DeleteBy the way, just sharing, recently I am unto "meditation" not the real and serious deal, but just sitting down quietly for about 30 to 45 mins not doing anything, but pay attention to the sounds in my surroundings and to the sights around me. Listening to birds chirping, mrt trains moving past, raindrops hitting on the roof, etc. In modern life, we are either preoccupied with our mobile phones or in a hurry to do the next thing or move to the next destination, since when we will quiet ourselves down to pay attention to the sights and sounds in our surrounding.
ReplyDelete*into meditation
DeleteMeditation is good practice, I should try it too.
DeleteSo I will quiet myself down, listen to the sounds around me and pay attention to the sights in my surroundings.
ReplyDeleteI can try to meditate in my garden.
DeleteNever liked mooncakes...let alone knowing the sugar that goes into the making of them. These days, people are getting more creative with mooncakes....wagyu beef wellington mooncake? Omg....I want also! I think I saw a bakwa mooncake the other day too! :O
ReplyDeleteEvery year, new flavors and new innovations. Good for us that we never really liked mooncake in the first place. I wasn't much of a fan until I tried the yam and pandan flavors. No more!
DeleteCome to think of it, a beef wellington mooncake makes sense....since beef wellington is encassed in pastry after all...why not mooncake pastry...lol! :D
Deletehah..hah... think mooncake pastry not so ngam.
DeleteI saw Grub by Ah Hong's promotion of the Wagyu beef and so tempting to try. I was dumbfounded by the idea of the Beef Wellington mooncake when I saw it in social media. =.="
ReplyDeleteYeah, imagine a Beef Wellington mooncake. I no chance to eat unless if got people sponsor LOL!
