I suggested that we visit The Rustic Grill, Damansara Uptown.
Wah...so romantic, got candlelight! My partner, ever the auditor, picked up the "candle" and announced "This is battery operated!" LOL!
This is the buffet counter with the tapas menu written on the blackboard overhead. The main meals come with buffet and free flow tapas.
When our table was set, I was rather amused by the cute tiny kapak (axe). Of course it is not an axe, but rather a knife that looked like a tiny chopper.
My partner told me to stop playing with the axe knife.
We placed our order for our mains - Seared Salmon Fillet for him and Beef Tenderloin for her. Then I requested for one each of the tapas for the evening.
1. Sauteed French Bean.
2. Deep Fried Baby Crab
3. Grilled Eryngii Mushrooms
4. Grilled Eggplant
5. Chicken Piccata
6. Grilled Red Head Squid (in) Balsamic (vinegar)
7. Duck Breast Pasta
Now for the mains.
Cooked to medium rare. Both mains were served with sauce on the side. I loved the sauce that came with the tenderloin.
Now let's take a look at the buffet.
The three covered bowls were mashed potatoes (loved it!), chicken wings (story below) and creamed cauliflower (?). There was also a pot of cauliflower soup. My partner had a bowl and he said it was nice.
There was also salad and bottled sauces for those of us who can't live without our tomato ketchup or chili sauce.
And then there were desserts to be dipped into the chocolate fountain. At the center were chicken nuggets and fries (later joined by pizza) which I believe are targeted at young diners (children eat free).
Later these pizzas were brought to the buffet area. My partner and I had a slice each and they were at best ordinary but would delight the young ones.
Now the story about the chicken wings.
They looked very sad but I have eaten sad looking food that were tasty, so I took a risk. My partner and I ate one each and our conclusion (based on the taste and texture) was that these wings had seen better days. And let's leave it at that.
On a brighter note, we loved the pasta so much that we made another order. So you could say that I was carb loaded (and suffered the consequences the following day).
After my partner paid the bill, we were pleasantly surprised that ice cream was also included with our dinner. I didn't want any but my partner couldn't resist. He chose mint and raspberry. I just has a little taste.
Well, it was largely a pleasant experience (except for the wings) and we will return. It is quite a good concept that the main dishes are accompanied by free flow (price of course is built in to the cost of the mains) sides in the form of tapas and additional items from the buffet.
For those on carnivore/keto/low carb way of eating, you can choose the low carb items/proteins from the tapas and walk away happy that you complied to your dietary requirements.

Hi dear friend, I love the hardwood floors! The ambiance does look warm and romantic. The cutlery as in knife and fork have nice patterns on the handles. The lemon tea looks great! Sorry the wings were a disappointment to you both. The grilled eggplant and chicken piccata look quite nice! Duck breast pasta? New to me but it sounds as if you loved it! Medium rare beef tenderloin sounds scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate fountain is driving me crazy! LOL! It looks divine! Your partner's ice cream looks very good!
Don't like the look of the pizza, but it sounds as if my feelings are right, that you didn't enjoy it.
Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend!
Ah, you love chocolate, Linda! So do I but nowadays I have limited my chocolate intake. I used to be addicted to Whittaker's (a New Zealand brand) chocolate bars. Now I will take 100% dark chocolate as a treat every now and then. The dinner was wonderful although there were hits and misses.
DeleteOh yes, I do love chocolate! However, I, like yourself, limit my intake to have some perhaps just 3 or 4 times a year. Same reason! (trying to keep my weight under control, being pre-diabetic and all). :)
DeleteGood for you! Chocolate 3 or 4 times a year takes a lot of discipline.
DeleteVery nice romantic dinner 💕
ReplyDeleteI would love trying all the food but would have to suffer from being too full at night. 😂
LOL! I was also too full until the next day!
DeleteIs the squid in balsamic vinegar too chewy?
ReplyDeleteThe squid was not chewy. We did not like it because the taste of squid and sour vinegar was not appealing to us.
DeleteDid I hear correctly? Order a main and you have free flow tapas, items from the buffet as well as ice cream? Wow, that's super duper worth it! :O What's the average price for a main? I'm assuming this is for dinner time only?
ReplyDeleteThe french beans look like something you can fry up at home...lol. Huh, even got pasta as a tapas? I see you've ordered every tapas except for the spinach...lol! P/S: I think the kapak is very cute too...and I'd play with it too.
Yes, order a main and you get free flow tapas and buffet. Sounds incredible though the quality of the tapas and buffet items are varied, some good and some average/below average, so you target your favorites. The price ranges from RM58 to RM188. You can see the menu on my post here : https://phonghongbakes.blogspot.com/2025/09/the-rustic-grill-damansara-utama.html
DeleteThe spinach was updated after were more than halfway past our meal, so we did not get it. Ah, so you like that kapak too. LOL!
