Chicken Tandoori Sandwich, Gratis

It was one of those days. You know, those days when everything goes wrong.

At work, there were hiccups, misunderstandings, pressure and stress. I even woke up past midnight and was unable to fall back to sleep.

My partner told me "the universe is testing you". He has been listening to Youtube podcasts on the subjects of I-Ching and geomancy. This year 2025 is tumultuous it seems.

It was time for lunch and I felt like having a Tandoori Chicken Sandwich and of course coffee. I was looking forward to a peaceful enjoyable lunch. To destress so to speak.

My hot cup of Long Black.

Ah! My Tandoori Chicken Sandwich

Aiks! This is not Tandoori. This is the Chicken Major.

So I took the sandwich to the counter and asked the staff "Is this Tandoori?" (I was not being sarcastic, just confirming) He glanced at the sandwich and said no as he took the plate away from me.

So I went back to my table and waited. When the second sandwich was served, I again took a peek. Adoi. Again, it was not Tandoori. So I had to send the sandwich back again.

My coffee was almost gone.

The boss, Terrence, brought a cookie to my table and apologized for the snafu. I appreciated the gesture.

While waiting, I texted my partner.

If you are wondering what is the "Madani tandoori song" - its that patriotic song on radio that has the lyrics "Malaysia Madani, rakyat disantuni..." My partner misheard "disantuni" as "diTandoori" Haiz.

I have heard stories of UFO being put into food when you complain but I have a lot of faith in Terrence and his team. I trust I will not be consuming foreign DNA.

After almost an hour of waiting, I decided to leave. I went up to the cashier and informed her that I will pay for the coffee and to cancel the sandwich.

Terrence promptly stepped in and offered to pack the sandwich for me with apologies. So I was charged only for the coffee and the sandwich was on the house.

I appreciated the gesture and I understand that things do go wrong even when they shouldn't.

So that was my late lunch at the office.

Tandoori at last.

All was not lost. I enjoyed the sandwich and I have something to write about.

To err is human, to forgive divine. And all's well that ends well.

Life goes on!

  1. Bless your heart, dear friend! Twice...they made a mistake on your sandwich. I think they did the right thing in giving you the sandwich at no charge! And you did the right thing by remaining calm and I am sure that this helped them to want to go out of their way to help you, and to apologize.
I am glad you finally got your sandwich, and that you didn't have to pay for it. It sounds as if the cookie was also on the house. Yes, you deserved this act of kindness as well as the apology.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

I totally understand this was an extra stress for you, particularly since you were having an already difficult day!
I am just happy for you that it all worked out in the end in your favour.

    1. Linda, I love your comment! You have put is so succinctly. The cafe boss has very good public relation skills and he knows how to take good care of his customers.

  2. Ahhh, to think that they made the mistake twice and good that you stayed calm throughout. At least Terence gave you an apology and a little cookie to make up for it and in the end you got your Tandoori chicken sandwich without any charge for it. Remember I once told you, the western stall I patronise gave me an uncooked grilled salmon (not fully cooked as I could detect the coldness and rawness in it as if just took out from the fridge), I had a run that night, the next trip I ordered the same grilled salmon and complained to them, they did not apologise and did not even offer me compensation, since then I never went back to that Western stall. It is not all about money, it is the integrity and attitude when you are doing business.

    1. I remember your story. Those people don't know how to take care of their customers. I will continue to support Halla Holla due to the good service and good food.

  3. And at this moment, inside Mac where I am having my coffee, the radio was playing the song "you had a bad day" by Daniel Powter. Lol! He had a bad day lol, poor thing. Everyone has a bad day now and then, at least you got your partner to cheer you up.

  4. I think of the movie adjustment bureau when things just don't go the way as planned.
As in the universe think I should be doing something else than what I planned.
As least Terrence is providing very good customer service and didn't lose you as a frequent customer.

    1. Oh, I am not familiar with that movie. Terrence is a smart businessman and he know how to take care of his customers.

  5. Whoever is manning the kitchen should be fired...lol! You can make the mistake once...but a second time (right after the first) is really bad service. Maybe they sent you the same one hoping you'd take a bite and not suspect and by then you can't return it to the kitchen. Seriously, I've never encountered any restaurant that would make a second mistake...it's like lightning striking at the same place twice...wuahahahaha!

    1. hah..hah.. yes, I was astounded when the "same" sandwich came back again. It was a rather odd situation but ended all right, though I spent almost an hour there.
