Tasty Tuna Patties

Do these look like begedil to you? In a way they are a sort of begedil, made with canned tuna and potatoes.

It all starts with draining two cans of tuna (which are packed with water) and squeezing out excess moisture.

To this I added mashed potatoes, some chopped chives, chopped carrots, onion powder, garlic powder, loads of freshly cracked pepper, tapioca flour (can use corn flour but I did not have any) and beaten egg.

I gave it a good mix with my hand. I did not pour all the beaten egg into the mixture because I was afraid it might become too wet (I had a bad experience a week ago). I put just enough for the mixture to hold together.

Then I formed them into patties and fried them in hot oil.

My Dutch oven has become very useful for this.

Fry for about 5 minutes. When you see the top part browning, flip the patties over so that they brown evenly.

And you end up with these.

Yummy...yummy!

The last four patties, I coated with leftover beaten egg before frying. They look like regular begedil.

These tuna patties are great as snacks, so crispy when served warm. They are wonderful for food prep too.

I want to put up a recipe but alas, this I made using agak-agak method. Maybe the next time I make tuna patties again, I will note down the amounts of the ingredients used.

I counted 21 patties, ate one for testing (oh! sedap!), and the rest went into my food prep.

  4. I was just about to ask you why your tuna patties looked different from the first photo. I thought you made two batches and was about to tell you I prefer the first coz I can see some frizzy edges...hehe! ;) Ah so, that was because they were coated in egg before frying. Since I like tuna, this is something I'll attempt for sure...and you don't need a specific recipe for this as it's so flexible depending on the quantum & type of each ingredient you want to add in. Your Dutch oven is indeed handy for deep-frying but I'll probably use a small pan so I don't have to waste so much oil or maybe I might just pan-fry them instead.

    1. You can most certainly pan fry these which is what I would do the next time. It is so good that I would make this more often.

  8. You are really talented and creative when it comes to cooking. I never could imagine using tuna to make this bergedil. So sedap.

I just bought the plastic "Golden Nugget" mould from Lazada and will ask my wife to make potato Bergedil by pumping the bergedil into Gold Nuggets before frying. It would make a nice plate full of lucky Gold Nuggets for pot luck dinners.
