House of Pok, 1 Utama

Aiyo! So busy lah myself! Until like cannot breathe like that. Publish post also, publish after lunch punya kih...kih...kih...

So anyway, last Friday my partner and I ran out of suitable places for him for dinner at 1 UtamaOn one of our earlier visits, we went for a short walkabout and spotted this restaurant.

House of Pok. We checked the menu and it seemed interesting. So we made a note to visit on our next date.

When we got there, the place was in full swing. We were not sure how the ordering system worked and we simply picked 5 dishes.

Apparently, you order by sets and each set comes with rice, a side dish and two dishes of your choice. And of course you may choose to order extra dishes if you like. So the server helped to piece our sets out of the 5 dishes we picked.

These were what we ordered :

The side dish consisted of something that looked like crispy beancurd skin and pickled radish.

I did not like the pickled radish because it tasted like it was soaked in orange juice.

Overall, the dishes were all right, not anything outstanding. But I do like the set meal idea where you can mix and match your dishes.

I may have mentioned somewhere that my partner is a rice man and one bowl is not enough for him. So he asked for kar fan (extra rice) and was told that they don't serve extra rice (!!!).

Well, suffice to say, he was not pleased. I was halfway through with my bowl of rice and gave it to my partner because it was too much for me. I feel that the restaurant ought to have extra rice on the menu, I mean, why not? Just charge the customer for that extra one bowl of rice.

I don't think we will be rushing back anytime soon but from the good turnout at the restaurant, I think many people enjoy the food.

    1. I like plain pickled radish. This one with orange flavor is just weird.

  4. I think they misunderstood you all, maybe they think you both thought the rice is free flow. They should suggest that you order a bowl of rice from the ala carte menu. That bowl of rice has minced pork and minced pork sauce poured on top of it (lu rou fan).

  5. LOl.. That is funny! Kah farn is just a bowl of rice, no extra efforts...

  6. I think the good turnout is probably due to the very affordable prices (for the set) and good portions. Some people (not us though...kekeke!) rates value higher over taste. ^_*

    1. You are right. I was quite surprised that the portion size of those dishes were quite generous. Out of the 5 dishes, I only liked the braised intestines.

    1. That's not very good for business, right? They should prepare some extra because there are some of us who love more rice!

  9. I've seen my friends tagging this place whenever they visited the outlet (not sure if they got discount for tagging it?). Anyway, I'm not a fan of such meal coz it seems like another 'chap fan' style but in a nicer ambience. My parents did not like it when my sis brought them there.
