Brunch@The Good Batch

My brother dropped by my office one day and since I did not have any plans for lunch, we went out for brunch. It wasn't quite 11:00 am and some restaurants like Rakuzen and Mr Tuk Tuk were not opened yet as they serve lunch at 11:30 am.

The only other decent place that I could think of (which I have visited) was The Good Batch@Damansara Uptown. Since they serve very good coffee, it was the ideal place for us coffee lovers.

Quite honestly, I don't think the food at The Good Batch is anything special, edible but not memorable. The menu seems to have been revamped since my last visit.

For the lunch promotion, the main course comes with a sweet drink but we could upgrade to coffee or tea for RM5.00 extra. But the choice of coffee was confined to Espresso and Cappuccino. So that's what we had.

I should have opted for Cappuccino as I forgot that Espresso comes in a (tiny) single shot.

For our mains, my brother opted for the Hangover Mess while I selected the Portobello Road. We also ordered a side of Party of Shrimps.

This is how the Hangover Mess looks like.

My brother said that it was all right and he seemed to enjoy it as he kept eating. He might return for this dish. Hmmm... next time, I should try it.

My Portobello Road.

I was not too thrilled because in between the portobello mushrooms and buns were a slice of roasted zucchini which still had a bite to it. I don't like :(

I also did not enjoy the chickpea ratatouille. The vegetables were too underdone for me.

The only thing I enjoyed were the poached eggs and even then, I was not too keen on the chipotle hollandaise sauce. The taste was not to my liking.

The Party of Shrimps were nice and crunchy.

Desserts? Of course! We couldn't resist having cakes.

This is the Mango something-something. The cake was light and fluffy but I did not like the mango flavored cream because it had an artificial taste.

The Chocolate something-something was a little dry. It had a good strong bitter chocolate taste, not too sweet, just the way I like it.

I might come back from time to time because the coffee here is amazing.

  1. Your party of shrimps look like the calamari fritti we had that night. Blogpost on it coming up real soon. I sure like the look of your portobello road, lovely poached eggs. I love hollandaise - the one here is different?

    1. The hollandaise tasted a bit different from the usual. But I still enjoyed the eggs.

  2. Did you say new menu? But the two dishes you had (Hangover Mess & Portobello Road...with some slight variations), I had the same way back in 2016! *scratch head* Your Hangover Mess seems to use frozen cut-up pieces of hash brown now instead of a fresh potato hash and there were no side veggies with the Portobello Road previously). I didn't like the sauce either then. I see they still 'like' to overcook their sunny side up eggs! :(

Looks like The Good Batch now serves good coffees only...their coffee beans are by Papa Palheta (if still the same that is, there's one in Bangsar you can try or you can order them online too if you can brew your own coffee...hehe!). ^_~

    1. The menu was revamped when they reopened after their renovation in 2018 with some old items retained. Then it looks like they revamped again as some items previously on the menu are gone.

I don't think I want to brew my own coffee hah..hah.. too much trouble.

  4. That Portobello Road and Mango Something-Something are very delicious looking to lure me.
I thought Portobello Road is a famous antique street in London but you ate them. Yums!
I am a coffee lover but I will stay away from Espresso as it would keep me awake & toss in bed till morning. Yawn!

  6. I know what you mean by artificial mango taste and I don't like that artificial mango taste either. The chocolate cake sounds good though.

  7. This place used to be very popular, perpetually with queue outside the shop. But the food from your photos don't really impress me >_<

    1. The food is not really good, only the coffee but they still pack in the crowds at weekends.
