Pre-Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner

Oh oh. Mr Tuk Tuk again?? My mum having read so many posts on Mr Tuk Tuk, she wanted to visit. Of course I was delighted to fulfill mum's wish.

So one evening two days before the Chinese New Year reunion, my brother and I together with our parents stepped into Mr Tuk Tuk.

Earlier in the day, I studied the menu online so that I have an idea what to order for the four of us.

We started out with an empty table....

....and empty plates... and soon the dishes started to arrive.

Two servings of Tom Yam Fried Rice (RM9.80) to be shared between me, my brother and our mum. Dad opted for white rice.

Mixed Vegetables (RM10.80), basically for my dad because he can't take the spicy salads.

Crispy Fish Fillet (RM13.80). Sorry, you can't see the fish fillets as they are covered with a garnishing of mango salad. I like this a lot.

Black Pepper Beef (RM13.80) which had a very strong aroma of curry leaves and kaffir lime leaves. My mum and I thought this was really nice.

This is the Thai Almond Chicken (RM13.80). Heavily garnished with sliced raw onions, which I love.

Thai Mango Salad (RM9.80), my mum's favorite. I made sure to note down on the order chit for it to be less spicy and indeed it was mild.

Another salad, the Som Tam (RM9.80), which is shredded papaya salad, another favorite of mum's. Also mild on the chili scale upon request.

As if all that was not enough, we ordered a fried egg each. It was served individually on these cute serving plates.

Nicely fried the old fashioned way with runny yolks.

So there, our family dinner in full swing.

And then I remembered one more item was missing.

The Seafood Tom Yam (RM12.80). The servers were standing behind our table, probably making bets if we could finish the food.

My mum enjoyed the tom yam soup. It had the right balance of sour, sweet and salty. My dad was very quiet. Maybe this is not his kind of food. He's more the sweet and sour pork and kailan fried with salted fish kind of guy.

Anyway....

Sapu finish.
.... this thang runs in the family. We always finish our food.  Just serve it, we clean it. And now, for the next episode to be continued on the actual reunion dinner at my place. That's tonight. See ya!

And I wish all of you who are celebrating, GONG XI FA CAI!

  2. Happy CNY to you and your family! Best of health to all of you! Gong Xi Fa Cai! Good good that you all finished up all the food. Thanks for your review. Now I have this long list to eat here with my family: tom yum fried rice, mango salad not too spicy, black pepper beef, crispy fish slices and maybe tom yum soup! Can't wait to read about all your food during CNY. I like people who can finish their food. Yay!

  8. Well, the two of you shared 5 dishes the last time. So, 9 dishes (including the fried eggs) sound about right for the four of you? Kekeke! :D There's the saying...."sek tak is fook" (loosely translated as "can eat is prosperous?")...disregard my lousy Cantonese! ;D OK, I've finally caught up with all your posts :)
