Never Say Never : Berry Bingsu

Update : Kory@The Starling had closed down.

After having my first taste of Bingsu, I concluded that Bingsu is not for me as it was (1) too sweet and (2) I do not like the added condensed milk. So I would not have anymore Bingsu, like ever.

But here I am with my second Bingsu and it changed my mind.

It was a weekend when my brother and I had our lunch and movie date. I bought a couple seat for Black Panther earlier without consulting my brother. Then later in the week I told him that he was welcome to join me if he wished.

To my delight, my brother agreed to come along and suggested lunch. It's a date! We went to Mitsuyado Sei-Men but I did not snap any pics as I have blogged about it before.

Since we had plenty of time to kill after lunch, we decided to to hunt for dessert and ended up here.....

....where we decided to have another go at Bingsu.

This time we had the Berry Bingsu. And a latte for my brother.

I love berries, so I was looking forwards to this in spite of my earlier misgivings about Bingsu.

It was very nice. This time, the nuts were fresh and we loved the ice cream, though we could not make out what flavor it was. It tasted like corn to me.

As we dug deeper, I was dreading the condensed milk but to my pleasant surprise, there was none of that heavy condensed milk that I was expecting. Instead there was a light tasting milk and it was not too sweet.

We loved this Berry Bingsu and I think I may have another go at another flavor hee..hee...

That was a very nice treat from my brother. Maybe next time we will try the Tiramisu or perhaps the Chocolate Brownies?

  1. I tried the mango before here, didn't get me all excited. I'd prefer our ang tao cendol.

  3. I can't say I'm a fan of bingsu....and in line with my resolution of eating less sweets this year, I won't be tempted...hihihi! ;P It's nice to see that you have such a special bond with your brother and he's willing to share a couple seat with you (I know of some who would be freaked out....hahaha!).

    1. Eh? I don't see anything weird about sharing a couple seat with my bro. In fact the other day I saw two guys sharing a couple seat LOL!

    2. No, no, I'm not implying that it's weird. I'm just saying that some people are shy about the perception of other people towards couple seats, that's all.

  4. Aha! I remembered how you loathed this at your first attempt while I loved them till heaven's door. I am glad you are growing up and learning to eat this Bingsu which is a craze in whole South Korea and the world today. Millions of people cannot be wrong with its exotic flavours, so you will get addicted soon since it is so near your office. Try all the flavours!!! Guaranteed Bagus!

    1. Yes, yes, I was wrong the first time. I guess it depends on the ingredients that go into the Bingsu.

  5. Yay! You gave it another chance and found that you love this berry flavor! If you are into bingsu now, I would highly recommend that you try the bingsu at HanBing at Bangsar. I brought my friends there and they love it. I think I have spent a fortune there now.

  11. Hi Phong Hong, after a long absence of nearly 2 years I decided to come back to my blog at the urging of my granddaughter. I was ready to call it 'quits'! I have been browsing through your blog and enjoying all the beautiful recipe creations, and your sweet and interesting stories...although not leaving a comment (shame on me)...same for other blog friends; my way of thinking that I don't count as a food blogger since I'm not active...wrong on my part! Your part of the world and other Asian countries have the Bingsu, which is a genius dessert creation with the shaved ice. Unfortunately we don't have it here.

The closest is the Italian Ice, but that is frozen solid. Also there is another Italian ice concoction which is shaved ice flavored with coffee, or lemon, and perhaps fruit juices, but nothing compares to the Bingsu, so yumm with all the fruits and nuts!
