Ooops! I Did It Again!!

Oooops! I did it again...da..dah..da..da..dah.... I don't like that Britney Spears song but it was playing in my head after I paid a second visit to Sangkaya (CLOSED). Haiz....

I was there last Wednesday and the next day, my brother whatsapp me this picture with the caption below :

Ehhh...Ehhh...
He even got himself a float. Mum is going to have a fit muahahaha!!! Well, he went for the Signature four scoops served in coconut shell. I want that! I want that! Sorry. Bad behavior mode.

On Friday afternoon, I looked at that picture again. Am I pathetic or what? It was 4:15pm and I was hungry. I already had lunch of course but for some reason the stomach wants what the stomach wants.

So I took a walk. It was a hot day, as usual. When I got there I placed my order for the Signature. That set me back RM10.50.

Look at that. The coconut shell is too small. Way too small. I could hardly put the sprinkles properly because they kept spilling. There must be a technique to this.

I know why they use such a tiny receptacle. To make the tiny scoops of ice cream look a lot more and to limit the amount of sprinkles one can take.

I'll have to say that I enjoyed it a lot more than I did the first time. I could taste more coconut and I was definitely more relaxed (no headache like the other time). I was the only one there and I had the whole place to myself.

At the bottom of the bowl, there were slivers of coconut flesh. Very nice indeed eaten with the ice cream. You know what, I should make coconut ice cream. Then I can have bigger scoops in an even bigger bowl with lots of sprinkles. Yeah, that's a plan.

Then I can buy young coconut, scrape out the flesh and eat with my homemade coconut ice cream. Yes, yes! That's what I'll do!

By the way, you must be wondering why I am faithfully posting one post a day this week. No particular reason, just that if I don't, these posts will be outdated. And if you are concerned why there are no baking or cooking posts, don't worry. They will be coming up soon!

  2. Looks like I have a bit more self control than you. I passed by the stall in Aeon during my grocery shopping but I didn't get any! Aiyah, why do they have to open at the supermarket to tempt me! So, I guess we'll be seeing your homemade coconut ice cream soon? Bring it!

You are right, the coconut shell is a bit small leh, but the ice cream looks "full" la.. But no room for sprinkles leh.. I think it's their tactic, don't let you take too much sprinkles, haha.. Later this also want, that also want, they rugi ehhh...

  6. WTF?!! Why your four scoops big enough to overpower the coconut shell?? You see what I got, they seem so pathetic now!! I not going to buy at their AEON Maluri stall anymore!

    1. I suspect the coconut shell you got was bigger. That's why I was a bit disappointed why my bowl was so crammed up until I cannot put much toppings. Yours looked more roomy. The scoop size must be standard but they most likely can't standardize the coconut shell.

  10. ooopsss!!! now we know PH has an evil brother who knows her weakest points and as soon as he sends her a nice photo of food at the right time, she will get so "restless" in the office and can't wait to leave to go makan the same thing.. but of course, I believe PH does the same thing on his brother also, haha!!! :)

  11. the first time 3 scoops and this time 4 full scoops.. I wonder if they have more?? or probably they need a bigger coconut shell for more than 4 scoops.. tu lah, of course there's a reason they source for the smallest possible shell, like you said, smaller scoops look more when packed in a small container, and like that too, you can't have a lot of toppings staying on the ice-cream.. sure got tactic one.. remember for once we have the take as much as you can salad in Pizza Hut for one price?? haha, I guess that would be likely the similar tactic.. you will have a sequence and angle for different toppings.. :D

    1. Ah...I remember the Pizza Hut salad. I used to use the lettuce to create a wall around the bowl to increase the capacity. Next thing I knew, after a few visits, they got smart, They tear the lettuce into smaller pieces.

  12. now I realize your brother was given a bigger shell for his 4 scoops of ice-creams.. how unfair!! hehe~~

and now there are actually slivers of coconut flesh at the bottom, making the already small space even smaller!! and yes, fully agree that you should try to make your own coconut ice-cream and do it the way you like it.. most importantly, as MUCH as you like it at one go, hahaha.. now, imagining that already makes you super duper excited huh?? I know, I knew it!! :p

  13. I love this ice cream like crazy. It was my first ice cream treat from my mum in Songkhla and it cost only 2 bahts those days for scoops.
Suddenly you made me feel thankful that all the food around my office is horrible and no desserts whatsoever in the industrial hub. I would be fatter than an elephant as I love to eat. Your area is always my food heaven. Recently I attended a high profile meeting with that developer and saw its design planning once the big development outside your windows is completed. You can buy a bicycle now!

    1. Yeah, too many temptations in my area. Already there are 4 ice cream shops - Baskin Robbins, Sangkaya, Soft Serv and Every Sundae. Not to mention the cafes and other makan places. That's why I am forever fat :(

    1. He runs the franchise so the stalls may not be his own. I think only the one at Jalan Alor, dunno if he has anymore elsewhere. I heard the kampua old lady's grandson, a uni graduate who took over her kampua business here...has left town to go over to KL and he has THREE outlets there, dunno exactly where either.

  19. I also bought this the first time because on average one scoop is cheaper than the rest of the other options and the coconut shell was also so small that I could not put any toppings on it. So the next time I just bought the one scoop although it was more expensive per scoop. Now looking at your photo, I wanna eat it again but the price is more than one plate of chap fan.
