Ice Cream Cures Headaches

My boss sent me out on an errand. Hang on a second. Let me rephrase. I'm the boss and I sent myself out on an errand. No big deal, just a short but hot walk to Telekom to pay the office phone bill. My head was pounding. I was having a major headache. From stress at work. So a short walk out of the office was a welcome relief.

Then some guy called out to me. Oh, pizza. Domino's Pizza was having some kind of road show or something.

Bad timing. I'm on a diet. I'm still fat, I can't eat pizza. So I walked away.

There were more temptations to come. All along the row of shophouses leading to Telekom, there are a number of eateries. There's Japanese, there's Western and there's a soft serve ice cream parlor. Ice cream! But I walked straight up to Telekom and made my payment.

On my way out, I detoured. To the soft serve ice cream place. Just to check the menu, OK? It was quite interesting, they have churros and banana fritters and some other stuff served with ice cream. I will have to come back another day.

I was feeling blah. I didn't feel like going back to the office. So I lingered and took another detour. Yeah, I was going to check out Sangkaya, which is somewhere behind Telekom. I detoured because the Sangkaya ice cream that Realgunners had was playing on my mind.

When I got there, I briefly checked the menu and I decided to go for the three scoops instead of four. I was on diet, remember? I know RG is going tsk! I'm just kidding. I didn't want to spend more than RM10.00. So I got this.

I had 3 sprinkles - crushed peanuts, Nestum and desiccated coconut. The 2 scoops were buried underneath the toppings and they were very small scoops and the cup was also very small.

The ice cream was alright. Very refreshing and I found the coconut taste rather mild. What I appreciate is that the ice cream was just mildly sweet. This is the sweetness level that suits me.

But honestly, it did not get me all excited and swearing that I will come back. But of course I will come back. I have to get the 4 scoops because that one has coconut flesh in it and that would be great. My brother mentioned to me the day before that he was interested (apparently he read RG's post. See, you are very effective) to try. Yup, I'll come back with my brother.

And you know what? My headache was gone. Let ice cream be your medicine!

  2. Hi Boss !
When I have headache, I must go to sleep ...if not, a cup of coffee helps though. I'm not sure about ice-cream as I tend to go toilet if I eat too much ice-cream (maybe the milk). I shall try it the next time if I have headache ... but with 1 big scoop only hor. I'm on diet too ... hee hee lol !

  4. Ok, less than RM10 unlike some of those branded ones for a teeny-weeny cup...but for around RM8 or 9 here, I can grab a big tub of Magnolia's ice cream, coconut flavour. I love it - very "lemak", like eating the green custard part of serimuka.

    1. Why would they be selling pizzas out of their car? That means it will not be served piping hot? Not nice lah like that! But if it is going very cheap, ok lah! What's that going for RM5.90? That's all right...

    2. At RM7.30, it was for 3 very tiny scoops in a tiny cup. Expensive stuff, I better go for the Magnolia then LOL!

I saw that the pizza guys used insulation bags, so the pizza could be warm. Saw some people buying. I suppose they must be doing this to boost their sales. The personal pan pizza was going for RM5.00. Cheap.

  5. hehehe, since you are the BOSS then you don't need to just send yourself to go out for an errand, but get yourself to go back home and take a good rest instead..

wow, your office is really not a safe place huh?? even with just a short walk to TM and you are passing by so many eateries, and that did not include adhoc stuffs like this Domino's pizza "car boot sales".. hmmm, i actually wonder if this is one of their sales channel?? i have seen this before (not sure if it's the same car) at the LRT station at my place.. 50% off for a pizza and it's actually a good deal, but of course like the same reason of yours, i did not buy them, hahaha!!

    1. Bloggers got some influence, right? We read what they ate or tried and we also tend to want to experience it ourselves. But I haven't gone down to trying the durian soda hah..hah...

The Sangkaya at my place has only 1 flavor which is of course coconut. I only saw 3 toppings, Maybe got others but I missed it. They also sell drinks, so it is a nice place to chill out on a hot afternoon.

Talking about coconut, I had coconut shake (with vanilla ice cream) last week, and it was delicious.. Like you said, it has real coconut flesh in it, really very nice..

  17. Ts... never mind! Hahahaha!

It is exactly because it is not too sweet that I liked it so much, it was very refreshing for me. The usual ice cream, having too much of them could actually make me feel sick. My sister said the nestum and desecrated coconut are their better toppings, too bad I could not get them :/

And, thanks for the link back! :P

  21. Hi Phong Hong,
I have seen Domino's along the road when I sent my son to school. They have some kind of promotion and anyone can just stop and buy a box! I did wonder whether are the pizzas still warm though! I rather call for home delivery!
Ice cream...I like mine plain. With nestum? Have not tried it before with ice cream!
