Giant Milo Nuggets and Chocolate Chip Cookies

I wanted some giant cookies to serve with my Milo Ice Cream. This was of course inspired by the sundae I had at Every Sundae. Previously I used to think that baking giant cookies was madness. I mean, who eats a cookie that is as big as their face?

Obviously I was not going to bake a whole batch of giant cookies, so I only made four and the rest I made in regular sizes.

The giant cookies are studded with chocolate chips because I stuck extra chocolate chips to the batter.

The rest of the chocolate chips were mixed into the batter together with crushed Milo Nuggets. Perhaps I should have put more chocolate chips.

To give you an idea how big my giant cookies are (actually they are not that shockingly big hah..hah...), I snapped a picture of a big cookie with a 20 sen coin.

Or better still, compare it to a regular sized cookie.

For these cookies, I did not chill the dough because I wanted crispy and crunchy cookies. I noted that chilled cookie dough produces a chewy cookie even though I bake them for a longer time. They are crispy when warm but go soft once cooled. I do not like chewy cookies.

Sure enough these cookies, baked immediately after the cookie dough was prepared, turned out very crunchy. And they stayed crunchy even after they were cooled. But of course if you prefer chewy cookies, you could either chill the dough first or bake the cookie for a shorter time.

This recipe was adapted from the Malted Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe. I swapped the malted milk powder (Horlicks) with Milo and in addition to that, I added crushed Milo Nuggets. This is the first time I tried Milo Nuggets and I like them a lot!

To make the giant cookies, I used a regular ice cream scoop to scoop the dough. Then I baked them longer, about 26 minutes. The regular sized ones, I used a small ice cream scoop and baked them for about 20 minutes.

I don't think I will be baking giant cookies again though hah..hah... It was interesting to bake such huge cookies and I can now appreciate how useful they are for serving ice cream :)

Giant Milo Nuggets and Chocolate Chip Cookies
Recipe source : Adapted from here

Ingredients
- 250g salted butter, softened
- 100g fine granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 240g self-raising flour
- 1/2 cup Milo Powder
- 1 packet Milo Nuggets, crushed (90g)
- 1 cup chocolate chips and extra for studding the cookie dough

Method :

1. Preheat oven to 160C
2. Sift flour and Milo powder together and set aside (any hard residue that can't get through the sieve, add to the flour mixture)
2. Cream butter and sugar until soft and fluffy.
3.  Add egg and vanilla and beat until combined.
3. Fold in the flour/Milo until well combined.
4. Add chocolate chips and crushed Milo Nuggets and stir in gently.
5. To make giant cookies, use a regular ice cream scoop to scoop the batter. Then put chocolate chips on the cookies dough, pressing in slightly.
6. Bake for about 25 minutes for crispy cookies (less for chewy cookies)
7. For regular sized cookies, use a smaller ice cream scoop or use teaspoons to form the batter. Bake for about 18 minutes for crispy cookies (less for chewy).
8. Allow to cool completely, and store in air tight containers.

  1. Your giant cookies are lovely and yummy. I must tell you the shocks I had went I first arrived in US where most cookies sold at cafes were giant like their palm sizes. They are similar to what we see at Starbucks which are American cultured styles. It took me many months to taste all their giant cookies which were filling as a meal to bite while on the go. I remembered eating those huge & thick cookies which were filled with thin layers of mint or creams! It was heavenly nice.
Later I came back and started baking giant cookies before Starbucks appeared here. It was a sell out.

Hey, can I order your giant cookies please??...... ( I already could 'hear' your answer!!!) LOL

  2. Actually, if you have desserts frequently outside, you'll find that giant cookies are the norm. Imagine a scoop of good vanilla ice cream on top of that big cookie you made...absolutely yummy! Or better still, scoop some ice cream between two big cookies, freeze it for a while....and you have the most awesome sandwich cookie!! ;D I also like my cookies crunchy and not chewy....but I love my Cookie the most *wink wink*!! :D

  5. Yum! Yum! They look really good. I've given up on all those sold outside - hard and so very sweet and not all that fragrant, even the imported ones.

  6. People used to say the 5 inch plus Galaxy Note is too big for a phone when I first bought it, but I told them that is ridiculous, my phone is the perfect size and all your small phones look like toys. I would say the same about your cookies. Those small cookies are like toys, for kids. Real adults would eat the large cookies, that's the perfect size! :D

  7. when you mentioned "giant", i really had no idea how "giant" you mean.. until you showed them side-by-side with a 20sen coin for a comparison.. Mak Oi!!! that is indeed gigantically enormous, hahaha!! let me estimate, that is about 10cm in diameter huh?? i have not had such a big cookie before, i wanna try that.. if not mistaken, the biggest one i had was those from Subway, which i guess is about 8cm in diameter only.. hmmm, you only baked 4 of those, why not more?? the bigger the more satisfying mah, muahahaha!!

    1. I have seen bigger ones, maybe next time I make those super giant cookies that are bigger than my face hah..hah... Bigger is better in the sense that I can bake in less batches.

  8. Haha you should put the cookie in front of your face to compare, then we know how big the cookie was.. If compare to just 20sen, I macam cannot imagine.. But I think if setakat 4 pcs, wet wet water la, I can sapu all.. Ooooo kam ngam, I also bought Milo nuggets from the petrol station last week, sedapppp, I finished the whole packet in 10 minutes, kakaka...

  9. why not?? why not bake that again?? i actually love these giant cookies!! errr, next time maybe bake giant cookies with mini M&M on them?? yeah, sounds great with the giant and mini contrast huh?? besides just as the base for your ice-cream, i think these giant cookies can be great in making ice-cream sandwich leh.. you know, put one piece for the base, then one slab of ice-cream in the middle and then finally top it with another piece (optionally chocolate sauce in the middle, hahaha).. errr, now i am imagining that and it makes me "i-scream" and drooling~~ :p
