Broken Day

Yesterday, my partner told me, was a Broken Day (in Hokkien : Phuah Jit).

I am not familiar with these things. I was also told that this year, the year of the Fire Horse, is a very challenging year. Bad things will happen. I always take these things with a pinch of salt. But for perspective, lets recap.

Last week, I fell down. Then that weekend my washing machine died. The day before yesterday, one of my statutory submissions was in error and had to be rectified. And then yesterday itself, my office air conditioner broke down. How's that for bad?

So I needed some cheering up. I went to my brother's house to deliver lunch and newspaper to mum. But she was still asleep upstairs, so I waited for about 30 minutes (because Friday is our chit chat day).

I decided to leave and headed to The Atria. I wanted to treat myself to a nice breakfast at Antipodean.

Now, I am not familiar with The Atria. I have not been there for years. I took the above photo after my meal so that you can understand what I am about to tell you.

When I saw the Antipodean counter and their wall menu, I was not aware that the cafe was open concept (at the center of the floor). I mistook their neighbor (on the right) for them >.<

I walked in and was met by two surly counter staff. I placed my order at the counter for the Breakfast O The Day and a hot Latte. After payment I was given a buzzer.

After I took a seat, that was when I realized that something was wrong. The name on the buzzer was not Antipodean. Dang!

Then my buzzer buzzed and I went to collect my breakfast.

Breakfast O The Day. Oh my God. Sad or what?

Oh dear dear.

What in the bloody hell is that??? (Gordon Ramsay mode on).

And this yellow liquid? I took a sip of the Latte. It was meh.

So I walked out. Yes, I abandoned the meal. Wasted my money. It was a Broken Day after all. A disaster was imminent.

Apparently I had accidentally walked into this place. I took the entrance next to Antipodean and hence did not see that name.

This is where I wanted to be.

The entrance to that other place was just next to this wall menu. Very misleading.

I got a table and at every table there is a QR code to view the menu. You order via the servers who are friendly and helpful.

I chose the All Day Breakfast with bacon and added a pork sausage. For drinks I had the Iced Latte.

That's what a proper cheering up should look like.

I found the Iced Latte a bit on the diluted side. Perhaps next time I am here, I'll get the hot latte instead.

I was hungry and eagerly dug in.

Does that look good?

Bacon.

Pork sausage.

This is not the best Big Breakfast but it was not bad. I have no complaints though the scrambled eggs could use a bit more salt. I loved the chickpeas and pork sausage. Yes, I will be back for other items on the menu.

On my walk back to DU, I saw this long line of vehicles. These cars are picking up kids from the international school at the end of the road (KDU used to be there).

A new bloom.

What a day! Back at the office, the technician visited to service my air-conditioner and all is well again (for now).

Amen to that!
