I read about Pineapple Coffee on Mun's blog and I was curious.
Yes, I have seen this item on Red Kettle's menu and I thought it was weird. To me coffee + anything other than milk is strange.
In fact when I read about bulletproof coffee (coffee + butter) I thought - yuks! But I have since embraced butter coffee (thanks to Mun) and it was delicious when I made it at home.
So I was at Red Kettle. I ordered the Roasted Chicken & Garlic Potato and feeling adventurous, I also ordered Pineapple Coffee.
This came to the table. Eh? Where is the coffee?
I took a sip and wah! Nice! Judging from the dark bottle, this must be a fermented drink - Tepache. It was a bit sweet for me, either they added sugar or the fermentation was stopped before it got too tart.
The potato wedges were mushy and overall this meal was all right, nothing exciting. When I went to the counter to pay, I mentioned to the manager that my Pineapple Coffee did not have coffee!
It turned out that I was served Fizzy Pineapple instead. In fact he told me that personally he doesn't like Pineapple Coffee. LOL! No worries about the wrong item because I enjoyed the Pineapple Tepache.
Then I went to this shelf to check Boey's other book - How Was Your Day. There was only one book left (there were 4 or 5 a few weeks earlier).
Fermentation was active on the second day.
I strained and bottled the liquid.
The liquid is pale because I did not add pineapple flesh like I did previously. I dare not put all the liquid into one bottle for fear that there was not enough space to contain the gas (it might overflow).
A day later I sample some. It was not visibly fizzy but I could feel the fizz when I drank the Tepache. Not bad at all!
Great quote. 👍 Roast chicken and garlic potatoes sounds delicious but it sounds as if you were underwhelmed by it. Mushy wedge potatoes wouldn't thrill me either, dear friend. And the fact that they put them under the chicken sounds unlike what a good chef would do. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤️
