I went early around 10:00 am (before doing my lunch run for mum) when it was nice and quiet.
The space is small and cosy but might feel uncomfortable if all the tables were fully occupied by diners.
Without wasting any time, I made my order for the Nasi Lemak Crispy and an iced Latte.
There was the nasi lemak at the center topped with an egg, papadum, acar, ikan bilis and peanuts and sambal. There was one whole chicken leg, thickly battered, and deep fried until very crispy.
There was also a small side of rojak buah, not something you would find served with nasi lemak.
Let me be honest. I wanted this plate of nasi lemak to be awesome. The rice had only a very subtle hint of coconut milk.
The acar was bland. I almost choked on the ikan bilis which were very hard. The chicken was tough, unlike some fried chicken which are crispy outside while juicy inside. The sambal was decent but the portion served is too small.
So I requested for extra and they kindly obliged. Frankly, I needed more sambal to make the rice go down easier.
As for the rojak buah, though served with good intentions (and to be creative), was simply too sweet for me.
So no, I was not happy with the nasi lemak. There are other restaurants in this area that serve much better nasi lemak.
What I can conclude is that nasi lemak is not their forte. Perhaps other items on the menu may fare better. I have not given up on Duo Kopi as yet.
Good morning! Yes, give them second chance, maybe other items on their menu maybe good. That's why sometimes I am skeptical about ordering fried chicken, as at times they come crispy outside and tough inside also. The last poster/quote looks beautiful and sounds wonderful. Ok, will be off for my breakfast after reading your post and commenting in my Room with 5 million dollar view with greenery view of blue sky, white fluffy clouds and birds chirping in the neighbourhood woods (ahhhh, now that's call gratitude lol!)
ReplyDeleteGood morning! The view from your room is priceless. From what I learnt, when we wake up, first thing is to look outside and expose our eyes to sunlight. It will prime us for the day ahead and in the evening we should expose our eyes to the setting sun to prepare for sleep. But I can't because when I wake up, it is still dark. LOL!
DeleteNo problem for you cos when you walked out to have breakfast and lunch run for your mom, you can still see and enjoy the view and sunlight. Today (Friday) I am having vegetarian, fried bee hoon with curry cabbages and crackers for breakfast. See what else I can add on. Have a blessed day ahead!
DeleteSo peaceful!
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteI love the quote, dear friend, and it is so very true! I love rice! It is true that it can sometimes be dry and hard to eat without an accompaniment that is moist (such as spare ribs...which I love). Your meal looks quite interesting. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love rice too! And I love having some curry gravy or spice paste on my rice. It is heavenly!
DeleteJust sharing, you may want to put Ainoshima, Japan, into your travel bucket list when you fully retire, it is one of the world's top 5 islands with massive cat population, hee hee. You can go "crazy Gaga" and melt your heart million times with the feline on this island.
ReplyDeleteOh! Cat island! Then I must go hah..hah...
DeleteI guess the chicken at say yes is much much more better than this one.
ReplyDeleteGood of you to give them another chance for another dish next time.
About your question, it is rice as they use rice to replace dairy milk in the rice latte drink.
Definitely! Thanks for confirming that it was indeed rice latte.
DeleteYou should try Nasi Lemak Shop, there's a new outlet in Sunway 163 Mall (Mont Kiara) which is not as packed as the Bandar Utama outlet. The rice was fragrant and the fried chicken was huge & very expertly cooked.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have been to the BU outlet and I enjoyed the nasi lemak.
