Good Carb Day : Duo Kopi Nasi Lemak

I finally dropped by Duo Kopi to give their food a try.

I went early around 10:00 am (before doing my lunch run for mum) when it was nice and quiet.

The space is small and cosy but might feel uncomfortable if all the tables were fully occupied by diners.

It is also very beautifully decorated, in other words, very instagramable.

Without wasting any time, I made my order for the Nasi Lemak Crispy and an iced Latte.

There you go, my very grand breakfast. It looked pretty much like how it looked on the menu.

There was the nasi lemak at the center topped with an egg, papadum, acar, ikan bilis and peanuts and sambal. There was one whole chicken leg, thickly battered, and deep fried until very crispy.

There was also a small side of rojak buah, not something you would find served with nasi lemak.

Let me be honest. I wanted this plate of nasi lemak to be  awesome. The rice had only a very subtle hint of coconut milk.

The acar was bland. I almost choked on the ikan bilis which were very hard. The chicken was tough, unlike some fried chicken which are crispy outside while juicy inside. The sambal was decent but the portion served is too small.

So I requested for extra and they kindly obliged. Frankly, I needed more sambal to make the rice go down easier.

As for the rojak buah, though served with good intentions (and to be creative), was simply too sweet for me.

All was not lost as I enjoyed the iced Latte. I thought it was wonderful.

So no, I was not happy with the nasi lemak. There are other restaurants in this area that serve much better nasi lemak.

What I can conclude is that nasi lemak is not their forte. Perhaps other items on the menu may fare better. I have not given up on Duo Kopi as yet.

  1. Good morning! Yes, give them second chance, maybe other items on their menu maybe good. That's why sometimes I am skeptical about ordering fried chicken, as at times they come crispy outside and tough inside also. The last poster/quote looks beautiful and sounds wonderful. Ok, will be off for my breakfast after reading your post and commenting in my Room with 5 million dollar view with greenery view of blue sky, white fluffy clouds and birds chirping in the neighbourhood woods (ahhhh, now that's call gratitude lol!)

  2. I love the quote, dear friend, and it is so very true! I love rice! It is true that it can sometimes be dry and hard to eat without an accompaniment that is moist (such as spare ribs...which I love). Your meal looks quite interesting. Thank you so much for sharing.
