Tasty But Deadly : Buldak Myeon

I am still in my Korean-food phase and I have temporarily abandoned my budu and belacan. I have been eating out a lot because I don't have the mood to do my own food prep.

I still food prep for my partner basically because his food is simple to prepare.

Soppong@The Starling has introduced a few new items in their menu, predominantly Korean fried chicken. The regular items are still intact.

One of the new dishes is Buldak which means "fire chicken". I should have taken the "fire" part more seriously when I ordered the Buldak Myeon with chicken (the other option is  with cheese ball).

It looked pretty good served like this. The three pieces of fried chicken were very crispy and crunchy (although after tasting, I suspect these were leftovers) and coated with buldak sauce.

The noodles were also tossed with the fiery sauce and were rather tasty. I felt the heat but it was tolerable. But....

.... as I ate and ate and ate, the chili heat started to take effect. OMG! My eyes were tearing and my nose was runny. This is ridiculously hot! I could feel my heart beating very fast.

It didn't help that I ordered hot green tea. To my regret I should have ordered iced green tea or a cold drink. I really suffered. The next day I suffered again. Twice. It was hot coming in and even hotter coming out wahahahaha!!!

No more. No more anything buldak for me.

The week before, I tried their Yangneum Dakganjeong. I have cooked my own Dakganjeong before and enjoyed it so much.

Sopoong's version is pretty good but too spicy hot for me. But it was not as hot as the buldak.

A few days later I tried Sundubu Jigae (tofu stew) with beef.

Though it looks red and fiery, thankfully, this stew is just mildly hot. It was pretty good.

Eh? Suddenly so much spring onions? I added my own. I brought the chopped spring onions in my handbag hah..hah..hah...

The K-food craze continued back at home. I ordered Yangnyeom chicken from MyeonDong Topokki via Grabfood and ate it with my own rice and homemade kimchi. The chicken was coated in a very hot sauce. Haiz....... kena again!

  6. I see you're on a K-krazed streak here....anything and everything Korean & Kimchi! :D Well, as long as you like it, you go girl! ;) If it's too spicy even for you, there's no hope for me. I had to read your comment twice (it was hot coming in and even hotter coming out) before I understood...lol. I thought you suffered twice by eating it again before I realised the other meaning...haha!

I love spring onions too (especially in soups & soup noodles)...but apparently not as much as you...until you had to BYOSP!! :D :D Ya, I know, some places can be super kedekut when it comes to spring onions.

    1. This Korean and kimchi thing is a passing phase I hope hah..hah... You know, a sadistic part of me wants to try the buldak again. I must be mad!

I think they don't give much because there are customers who don't like spring onions. I know of some people who would painstakingly remove spring onions (or any herbs) before eating their meal.

  7. I like that they serve in that stainless steel wok. Cute. Used to have one place here serving their fried dishes in such but no more open.

Haha. Wonder when your taste buds bored with all these Korean flavours. Lol.

  8. I recently had a quite addictive Korean spicy fried chicken at a Korean fried chicken chain store, not sure if that comparable with your Buldak, but those fried chicken certainly set my mouth on fire.
