Tuk Tuk

It was a Friday and my partner was away. When he is not around, I can always rely on my wonderful brother for transport. It was also an opportunity for us to have dinner together never mind that we already have a date the following day for lunch and a movie.

When we were at The Starling, I suggested either Two Sons Bistro or Thai food at Mr Tuk Tuk. My brother immediately chose Thai.

It was his first visit and a second for me. After perusing the menu, we ordered the Seafood Tom Yum, Crispy Fish Fillet, Thai Pomelo Salad, Green Curry Chicken, Salted Fish Fried Rice and Mango with Sticky Rice for dessert.

We were concerned if the fried rice was enough for two (big eaters) so we asked the Filipino server. He said it was adequate to be shared but there are also customers who could finish the whole serving by themselves. So to be on the safe side, my brother ordered a serving of white rice.

My bro splitting the white rice right down the middle.
When the food was served, it appeared that the portion of fried rice was ample for two diners.

The Seafood Tom Yum was what we expected, tangy and full of robust flavors though not as spicy as it looked. In the soup were two prawns, some squid, mussels and chicken. I could eat this alone with a serving of rice.

The Green Curry Chicken was also enjoyable. The flavors all perfectly balanced with the right amount of coconut milk, not cloying at all. In a way, it was good that we ordered white rice as it was great with the gravy.

The Pomelo Salad was served with the dressing on the side. So I tossed the salad myself and found this salad to be very refreshing. It was my first time having pomelo salad and I liked it.

The Crispy Fish Fillet is simply fried fish fillet tossed in Thai chili sauce and garnished with shredded mango. It was nice but not something exceptional.

We enjoyed the Salted Fish Fried Rice. It had a lot of wok hei going on for it and yes, someone with a good appetite could finish the whole plate. But with side dishes, it would be ideal to share.

I ordered the Ice Lemon Tea which I regretted because it was terribly sweet. They do not serve water on the house and if I remember correctly water costs RM1.50. My brother's drink came when we were halfway through eating so I did not snap a pic. He had Fresh Watermelon Lychee which he said was not that sweet.

We were stuffed, really stuffed after the meal. I spied three young ladies at the next table sharing a serving of rice and tom yam among them. No wonder they are so slim.

It was not over for us yet because we had to eat our dessert hee..hee... The Mango with Sticky Rice was all right, did not really impress us but all the same, it was a nice ending to the meal.

  2. I have a little addiction to Thai food. It's the balance of sweet, spicy and tangy that gets me.

  4. Oh good, you and your brother managed to finish everything despite feeling full. No food went to waste but the waiter should have given you both better advice so that the plain rice won't be ordered unless all the dishes have been served and you still find that you need more rice. I can eat with you both and eat a bit off each dish, no need to order additional dish for me, hehehehe.

    1. Yes, you need DBKL eaters to help you finish your food and we don't mind LOL!

  5. It might seem that you ordered a lot but I think it's alright seeing that the portions aren't very big. ^_~ Sharing a portion of rice and tom yum among 3 people? Well, it's no fun to eat with them...wakakakaka! :D I love pomelo salad. The prices of around RM10 - RM12 are cheap too (saw that on GoodyFoodies blog). Nice, eh? Good, I have one near me :)

    1. hah..hah..yeah, those girls are no fun :) The food here is decent enough and value for money. Only downside is they only accept cash so not convenient if you come in a group and the bill adds up to a lot.

  7. Besides Black Canyon, I also frequent Tuk Tuk for their Thai Food. It is really worth the money when you order their set meals which is the cheapest in the whole country! The taste may not be the 100% best but it could satisfy my hunger pangs whenever I missed my mum! Now I plan to go there tonight since you have lured me.
