I Made It To The 2nd Floor!

Finally! After reading Kris' glowing review about 2nd Floor Kitchen & Bar@TTDI, I was raring to go. My first attempt to visit together with my brother and parents was foiled due to lack of parking space in the vicinity. We did not want to park further away since our parents were with us, thus we had to abandon the idea.

Fast forward many weeks later, we made a second attempt and this time, we had parking luck. Somewhere opposite the restaurant was an empty space just waiting for us.

We were the first diners to arrive for brunch and had a choice of sitting at the balcony. Oh! Look at the herbs! I saw rosemary, thyme, oregano and mint. This is a sight sure to please any gardening enthusiast.

Ah! Water! That's what I call service. I wish more restaurants would provide diners with water on the house. Since we were here at brunch time, the menu is different from the dinner menu. Oh well. We can always pop by one of the evenings.

To my delight, I spotted the 2NDFLR Salad. Yes, we want to eat that. As for our mains, my brother was rather predictable. If Big Breakfast is on the menu, he will zoom in on that. As for me, I opted for the 2NDFLR Benedict

These are the rest of the brunch options.

We are both predictable when it comes to drinks. That's right, a Latte for him and a Long Black for her.

No complaints about the coffee, it is as good as it should be.

The much anticipated salad.

This 2NDFLR Salad was as good as I had imagined. We loved the smoky flavors coming from the charred romaine and the embellishment of bacon and croutons. This salad is so good that I will order it again on my next visit (and try to figure out the dressing hee..hee...).

And oh, the runny egg! This salad is one of the best I have had in any restaurant. Love the dressing (I wonder what it is made of) which had the right balance of flavors.

The Big Breakfast was indeed ample to satisfy any big eater. In fact my brother was defeated and had to pass on some of the items to me hee..hee...

There was bacon, sweet potato fries, some salad, a thick slice of grilled tomato, sauteed mushrooms and onions....

... two slices of toast, sausages and sunny side up eggs (you can choose how you want your eggs done). The egg yolks were slightly overdone but it is nothing major on account of the overall content  and execution of the colossal  breakfast. Very satisfying indeed.

And now on to my 2NDFLR Benedict. I thought the hollandaise sauce was a bit thin and runny and I could barely taste it. But that did not prevent me from enjoying my eggs with the wonderful topping of bacon bits (and some sort of Italian breadcrumbs from what I read on Kris' post).

Look at that. Don't you agree that oozing egg yolks is a swoon inducing sight? The Eryngii mushrooms deserve mention as I loved how it was grilled and it contributed some meaty bite to my meal.

These were what was passed on to me, apparently with a motive. My brother was reserving some space for dessert. Naughty boy.

I had to have the Molten Lava Cake while my brother, a creme brulee enthusiast, wanted to try the Ginger Creme Brulee

Isn't that lovely? The cake was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some strawberries and garnished with mint and chocolate pearls.

Yes, it was lava all right. Thumbs up from my brother and I.

Now, the Ginger Creme Brulee. I wasn't quite sure if ginger would be nice in a creme brulee.

The crust was hard and I could not easily break through it and the custard was not quite set. After having a taste, I'm afraid this flavor does not work for me. I kept thinking of my mum's sesame ginger chicken. My brother however did not mind the ginger.

I must say that we were impressed with our meal (maybe except for the creme brulee) and I would gladly climb up to the 3rd or 4th floor for more. Our positive impression warrants many more visits and we will be back for the dinner menu.

Ginger creme brulee?? Hmm. Must be something. Gingery and sweet in between?

  5. Ooo...I'm so glad you made it here and loved the food :) Hehe, I see you couldn't figure out the salad dressing either (perhaps on your next visit then)...the smoky romaine made all the difference! ;) This (I think) is the first time I hear your brother being 'defeated' with a plate of food...haha! :D I wish you had ordered the Chocolate & Coffee instead of the Creme Brulee (there's not chef recommended). Maybe you can check that out when you return for dinner. From your pic, I can see that the sugary crust is a bit too thick. You should have highlighted to them that the custard wasn't set and I'm sure they would gladly take that back. I should try to make it here for brunch since I see they have quite a few good options.
