It's the second day of Hari Raya. Yay!!! So. I am pottering in the house doing some much needed spring cleaning. Lately, due to me spending my Saturdays at work, my housekeeping took a backseat. And I am not happy.
It was chaos in the pantry. All my things here, there and everywhere. I hate that. I cannot stand disorder. It drives me mad but I have been living with it for many months. So let's take a look at what I found while rummaging through the mess.
Cookies! No, I don't eat these. It was for a cheesecake base but that cheesecake has not seen the light of day. Tsk!
These dried cherries and cranberries are leftovers from Chinese New Year. They are still good. I guess I should bake some cookies to use them up.
Hershey's chocolate chips. Still unopened. I bought these before Chinese New Year with the intention of baking loads of choc chip cookies. But no, nothing happened here.
Ah! Perfect for those depressing days. Actually I bought this for making Tiramisu.
Eh, I still have this.
Expired! No Tiramisu then. Tsk!!
Found some contraband. hee...hee...hee....
Oh dear. What are these for?
Look at the expiry dates. This is really bad.
My spices. Threw out a packet of fenugreek that expired in December 2015.
And oh, let me show you my stash of cupcake liners.
I'm a sucker for these. I buy them just because they are pretty. Have you seen me baking cupcakes or muffins lately? Noh........
And how about these? Cookie canisters. Again a purchase just before Chinese New Year when I thought I would be baking loads of cookies.
Right.
I wanted to bake buns. No motivation. Tsk!
Lunch. Leftovers from yesterday's dinner with added vegetables. Eaten straight from the pot. Less washing up.
Now that everything is in order, I feel good. It's time to sit back and relax.
Did you throw all those expired things away? The quinoa and corn can be used for your garden, right?
ReplyDeleteI fully support eating directly from the pot, hehehehe! Just what I will do too. :D
Some I threw, some I kept because I believe they are still good.
DeleteIs that a woman's thing? The lady of the house is exactly like that. Dunno how many things I've thrown away - discovered in the pantry or in the fridge or somewhere in the house dating back to goodness knows when. And I always used what's in the fridge for my cooking - simply too fast for me to keep up, cleared some space, filled up in no time at all. Hmmmm...women, can't live with them, can't live without them. Muahahahahaha!!!!!
ReplyDeletehah..hah...hah... I don't know if it is just women who do this. But generally, yes I guess :D
DeleteRecently, I thrown away unwanted things in my house, lol
ReplyDeleteI have many unwanted things too that I should throw.
DeleteMe too, me too! I have also thrown away many of the untouched baking stuffs due to reasons similar like yours. Guess we belong to the same category! Anyway, I have found a "sense of belonging" here with you, hehe :)
ReplyDeleteHigh 5, Lily! Today I went shopping and bought some more things muahahaha!!
DeleteHmmm... I guess if you cook and bake you tend to buy all kinds of goodies. Cheap Cheap and Buy Buy and eventually ended up in the trash. Must be a women's thingy!!
ReplyDeleteChristine, I think so too. hee...hee...
DeletePhong Hong,
ReplyDeleteI did have 1 or 2 packs of unfinished but expired flour (rice and glutinous) threw away. I have a soft spot for cupcake liners too. Oh bread flour ... I must bake some buns ... Hee hee! Well tidy up sure relax lor!
Karen, I hung on to the bread flour. I think still can use hee..hee...
DeleteI am feeling guilty too! I know there are lot of expired stuffs in my fridge but until now I have yet to clear out those stuffs. Have to wait for the right mood.
ReplyDeleteOh! The fridge. Oh oh, that part I haven't checked hah..hah...
DeleteI know what you felt:) i can suspens i also have a lot of such surprises in my house
ReplyDeleteWe have that in common!
DeleteIt always feels good after cleaning and tidying up
ReplyDeleteYup, I felt good yesterday :)
DeleteWell Phong Hong, I think some expired foodstuff can still be used. For example, last year, I have had some bread flour, glutinous rice flour, rice flour which expired some 6 months ago, but I still used up all of them. I think if foodstuff stored in the fridge unopened and they expired not more than one year, they could still be used. Normally, the expired stamp is just an indication to "best use before xxx" kinda of advice, not strictly that the foodstuff cannot be used.
ReplyDeleteI too was a hoarder before, but of course, I now no long buy things unnecessary.
Blessings
Priscilla Poh
Priscilla, you are right. Previously I did use bread flour that expired and they turned out alright. I must change my habits!
DeleteThought you would blend all those Chipsmore and cranberries and rum, then turn them into a rojak cookie or something. That would be nice, I imagine. :/
ReplyDeleteAiyo! hah..hah... nanti lau sai...
DeleteYou're not alone in this....I throw away lots of expired goods too. It's always a case of I want to make this, I want to make that...and then end up making nothing! :(
ReplyDeleteGlad it's not just me hah..hah... I did succeed at one point not buying things unnecessarily but I have lapsed >.<
DeleteOh dear, I am guilty too! Even my bottle grape juice has expired, yesterday I just looked at the date.. but I am not throwing that away as yet, wanna try and see drinkable or not... other than that, I have a few bottles of vitamins that might has expired one year.. sigh... next time we better zip our wallets, buy whatever we need not want! :)
ReplyDeleteYou too? hee..hee... Some items are still OK after expiry. Can still makan or minum.
DeleteHahahah! U Hv just reminded me of something that I need to do but Hv been putting off for a very long time (decluttering my food cupboard). Recently, I did that to my refrigerator n threw so much away!!!
ReplyDeletehee..hee.. I haven't decluttered my fridge yet. Ooops!!
DeleteI always overstocked groceries too, feel guilty when they expired & I have to throw them away >_<
ReplyDeleteMust try not to do that hah..hah...
