A Treat For My Auntie@You Know Where

Update : Ampersand has closed down

What?? Ampersand by Culinary Rebels again???? Are you bonkers???? This happened some 3 weeks ago. I did not get to treat my auntie the first time we came here, so this was my chance to make it up to her.

It was a Monday, the most depressing day of the week, and what better way to cheer oneself up after a day at the office than to eat good food with good company.

I was in charge, so I made two orders of chicken wings, the magnificent Thom Thom Wings and the superb CCB Wings.

Two orders of chicken wings and a pasta. That's not all.
And of course it goes without saying that I had to order the ribs for my guests.

The BBQ Ribs, which were always excellent on my previous visits fell a bit short this time. They were on the dry side, not moist and succulent like before. It was a bit tough too.

The best ribs in the house, BBQ Ribs (full rack). Shared by my brother and auntie. Photo credit : my auntie. Her phone takes better pictures.

This was also my chance to taste the last of the ribs on the menu that I have yet to try, the Fennel Ribs.

I was disappointed to say the least. There was a strong hint of fennel and other than that, there was no flavor to speak of. It was bland and like the BBQ ribs, it was also dry and tough.

This is where I worry when something like this happens at my favorite restaurant.

The Fennel Ribs (half rack) for me. I'm afraid this was not good but at least I tried it.

But salvation came in the form of wings that can make you fly. I was very pleased with the audible mmmmmm..... that came from my auntie when she bit into the Thom Thom Wings. I heard the same from my brother.

The Thom Thom Wings, pleasure in every bite. In fact best wings in the house.

The CCB Wings also elicited a favorable response. Well, that tells me that they are still doing something right in the kitchen.

The CCB Wings. Who says belacan ain't glamorous.
But my auntie prefers the Thom Thom.

And of course I had to let them taste the simple and yet so tasty Spaghetti Aglio Olio. This one also maintained it's standards and was very much enjoyed by all three of us.

The pasta, no need to say. Delicious to the last strand. My brother loves this a lot.

I came here again last Saturday with my partner. When we walked in, our usual table was already taken. So we sat outside for the first time.

Nice view, eh?
Luckily it was a cool evening. Or else it would have been quite warm here. There was another couple seated in this open area.

Plants, I like.
We had the usual suspects, the BBQ Ribs (excellent this time) and the spaghetti aglio olio. And I had the last of the wings that I wanted try, the Sriracha Buttermilk Wings.

Ampersand does great wings and this one did not disappoint. My partner took only two because the sriracha was too hot for him. Hee..hee...so more for me!

So there. I have tried all the ribs and all the wings. I hear that the new menu is coming up soon and there's going to be pork belly. Woohoo!! That's something I look forwards to.

  2. Sh*t like this always happen to me too. Every time I bring people to a place that I like, and they decided to drop in standards on that particular day. Pisses me off :( ..

Also, I was re-watching Harry Potter movies recently, so You-Know-Where (or You-Know-Who or You-Know-Whatever) means to me, a taboo place.

    1. Yeah, inconsistency is something I notice in most places I go to. So I do get nervous when I invite family out. But if a place is consistently bad, then I won't return. Ampersand thankfully was good most of the time and also on my most recent visit.

  4. You are so cute and funny, making me laugh! I really must go try this place and tell them about your blog posting 3 times on Ampersand!! That should give me a free dessert or 50% discount laaah....

The food looks so appetizing and really calling me over. The ribs looks like beef with big bones. The Olio and Wings are yums too!

What CCB Wings???!!! If SK is here, he would shove it into my CCB mouth. Wakakakaka

  8. I would go for the ribs once they put it on the lunch menu because I don't quite eat dinner. As for wings, since I don't eat chicken skins no point for me to eat wings. I guess wings taste good because of the skins the wings will never be too dry as long as the sauces used to marinate the wings are tasty.

    1. Don't know if they will do that because ribs might be too heavy for a weekday lunch. Weekends would be good.
