Ginger Sesame Chicken with Coriander

If there is such a thing as Three Cup Chicken with basil leaves, I am sure there can be such a thing as chicken with coriander leaves.

I happen to adore coriander (cilantro) and you will find me pinching coriander that is used to garnish dishes like steamed fish and steamed chicken when eating out. I can't get enough of it. I used to ask the chicken rice man for extra coriander when I tapau chicken rice.

My late grandma was also a fan of coriander. She used to eat it like ulam (raw vegetable side dish) when having her meals.

This is the first time that I cooked ginger chicken using purely sesame oil. I used to mix regular cooking oil with sesame oil but after my experience with Ginger Fried Rice, I am not afraid of sesame oil anymore.

Let me show you my favorite sesame oil.

But I can't find this anymore, so I bought this one.

I still prefer the first one but this will do.

So, after the chicken was full cooked, I turned off the stove and stirred in the coriander. One whole bunch of it. I know, those of you who dislike coriander will go eeeeuuwwww!!!

But to me, the combination of sesame oil, ginger and coriander is yummmehhh!!! I can eat two plates of rice with this.

  2. We usually fry ginger in sesame oil to cook chicken - soup...or soy sauce with our traditional Foochow red wine, of course. Cilantro is optional.

  6. When I saw your post title contained 3 words that I love....ginger, sesame and coriander, I knew I'd love this recipe. I'm like you, I'll be the one who polish off all the coriander on top of the steamed fish and ask the chicken rice seller for more coriander.

This recipe of yours is almost similar to how I would make ginger chicken (a favourite of mine) but I've never thought of adding in coriander...and now I do. I'm so gonna try this version, thanks! :)

  7. All the herbal leaves including coriander are my favourites! I thought I have seen this brand Eden Selected at Jason's Grocery @ Bangsar Shopping Centre. Let me browse their shelves on my next visit otherwise you can easily buy online like how the KL expatriates order their stuffs. These days the courier charges from overseas are very reasonable.

  9. I like to eat coriander too but lazy to wash them as I often eat them raw. I remember eating peanuts sweets with coriander too, very nice. Have you eaten those peanuts stucked together by hardened syrup with coriander?

  15. Phonh Hong, I'm with you...I adore fresh coriander leaves (cilantro is what we call them)...we have a hug abundance of it here at our local Latina market because the Spanish people use it every day in most of their dishes...just like Italians use fresh basil in most of their dishes! Love your creative recipe for the chicken, and to combine it with the sesame oil and ginger, sure was a winner! Will check out your previous posts...since I don't even check my own posts every day, I lose touch with others!

  17. Hi Phong Hong, any meat dish with ginger and sesame seed oil tastes good. Most times I add spring onions. This dish looks yum yum and I can imagine the nice aroma of the sesame seed oil. BTW, my neighbour just told me that boiling a bunch of coriander with wolfberries [kei chee] as a drink is good for eyesight.

Coriander is one my top most favourite herbs! When a recipe calls for a cup, I would put 3 cups! Haha! Your chicken looks delicious, and with the coriander, the aroma must be heavenly! Sedaplicious with a bowl of rice and some chili padi condiment at the side!
