I did mention that I found another brand of kimchi at Aeon.
It retails at only RM10.00 for a 400g jar.
It is made in China and I must say that it is very tasty.
But alas, as with most store bought goods, it contains preservatives and artificial ingredients like sweetening agent, flavor enhancers and color retention agent.
So it is best not to consume this too often even though kimchi is good for gut health. It is of course preferable to make your own kimchi. But at the moment for me, time does not permit.
This is what it looks like.
I transferred the kimchi to a glass container to be stored in the fridge.
This is my favorite local brand, Ilmi Kimchi. It retails at RM13+ for a 400g bottle.
No artificial preservatives and coloring. Kimchi does not need preservatives as the microbes preserve the product. But this kimchi does contain msg.
It is pungent, salty and delicious!
I transferred the kimchi into a glass container and let it stand (covered) at room temperature overnight to over-ferment it. That's because I wanted to cook Kimchi Jigae. You need overripe kimchi for that.
My red Dutch oven is still in good use heh..heh... not collecting dust at all.
There you have it. Kimchi Jigae simmering away!
I have had occasions when I tell the person "I have to say this in case I regret not telling you ....". Usually it is to caution the person to be careful so that they don't hurt themselves.
That quote says everything, doesn't it? And I think each and every one of us has had at least one incident in both cases! I don't believe I have ever tried this dish! Your Dutch oven is lovely and it is good you are getting use out of it. Thanks for the information and the lovely photos, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does! I agree that all of us have had such experience in both situations. I certainly have. Dutch ovens are very useful and can even be used to bake bread.
Deletewahhh look sedap 💖
ReplyDeleteSedap eaten with rice and more kimchi!
DeleteAh, I must look for this Ilmi Kimchi tomorrow. Hope I can find it. 🤞
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation.
Hope you find it and enjoy the taste.
DeleteI agree with what Linda had to say regarding your last poster/quotes. If anyone never experienced both, that person must be lying. I fell in love with kimchi when I went Seoul, Korea during Year 2002. That was like donkey years ago! I guess I can only enjoy kimchi when I dine out and eat Korean food cos I couldn't find non-spicy store bought kimchi in my 2 neighbourhood supermarkets. Glad that your red Dutch over is put to good use, nothing wasted (no waste of money). But it does look heavy, is it very heavy? And yes, thanks for the info regarding the chemicals in store bought kimchi and very delicious looking kimchi and Kimchi Jigae.
ReplyDeletehah..hah.. true! I hope one day I get to go to South Korea and eat kimchi there LOL! Yes, the Dutch oven is heavy.
DeleteMay your dreams come true, my friend.
DeleteThank you!
DeleteBy the way, you mentioned before that "our expiry date is in God's hands and you would rather not know when". But on the other side, if you know that for example tomorrow you are going to pass on, you can choose to eat to your heart's content and arrange what you need to arrange with your family about your wake/funeral, isn't that wonderful? And if you know that you are going to live a long life, then you should plan to work harder so that you have enough for retirement, isn't it? Just my two cents worth, hee hee.
ReplyDeleteWell, it can be disturbing, depending on how one looks at it. If I knew tomorrow is my last day, I would be anxious and probably can't eat! I agree that if we knew when we expire, we can plan better. I would spend all my money before I go. LOL!
DeleteBut come to think of it, not everyone is priviledged to be able to know our "expiry date".
ReplyDeleteThere was an episode on The X Files of a man who could tell when and how a person will die. Of course nobody liked it when he told them. He also knew of his own time and how he was to go. In fact he could have changed his circumstances to avoid his death but he chose not to because he said, if we all could change how events ended, it would alter the course of history. I found that episode intriguing.
DeleteYes, some are real stories though other people may not believe or cannot understand.
DeleteAnd yes, when it is time for us to go, we have to go.
DeleteThe kimchi makes me salivate... I just had that with tofu a couple of days ago...
ReplyDeleteAbout that quote, it depends on who I say it to... I remember saying it before to one of my close friends....
Oh you eat kimchi! Shake hands! LOL! Yes, how we say it matters.
Deletei actually went for Korean food after seeing this kimchi!
ReplyDeleteReally? hah..hah..hah... Good!
DeleteThat's a very big pot of Kimchi Jiggae, did u keep some of it?
ReplyDeleteYes, I kept some in containers. Too much to finish in one sitting.
