First Date Nite In A Long Time

One Saturday, my lahling asked me if I wanted to go out for dinner. "Ciak pui (eat rice)" he said. Yesh!!!!

So we headed out to Restoran Yik Kee @TTDI and arrived there at around 7:00pm. The restaurant was almost full house and we were lucky that there was one small table available.

The tables were well spaced out and although all tables were occupied, it did not feel crowded.

The server brought the usual condiments to our table - soy sauce, minced garlic and sliced cili padi including serviettes and toothpicks.

Then our utensils came in a bowl of hot water. Here you see my lahling rinsing the sauce plate and bowls.

As usual, I got ready my favorite condiments of minced garlic and sliced cili padi with soy sauce.

Our first dish was venison stir fried with ginger and garlic. This was so so good! The venison was very tender and we both thought it was excellent.

Next dish is our favorite, sweet potato leaves stir fried with garlic and salt. It is such a humble dish and yet so outstanding. We never get tired of it.

I decided that we should have the steamed soft tofu topped with minced pork. It was a good choice as the meat topping was so tasty. There was also steamed egg in the dish. So nice!

This is another dish that we thought was very well executed - braised chicken in Chinese wine. There were shiitake mushrooms and black fungus braised together with the chicken. It was a bit salty but that did not stop us from scrapping the bottom of this dish to scoop the very last drop of gravy.

My partner and I were very pleased with our dinner. Every dish was outstanding and service was tip top. Portion sizes were very generous and we were both stuffed to the brim. Yay to our first dine out in a long time!

  1. We also went out for dinner at a restaurant last night, luckily, the crowd came in just when we were leaving - still not comfortable at places with a lot of people. Aha!!! We forgot to order the venison - must remember to order that next time!!!

  4. Aiyor, why so long for first date night with your lahling....since I've seen you dine out with your brother already...kekeke (I agree/like what Nux V said above....hah..hah). I'm sure you enjoyed the food a lot coz they look sumptuous. I've always enjoyed (always tender) venison and I know I'll enjoy steamed tofu and steamed eggs (though I've never had them together). P/S: I noticed from the pics of the restaurant that some tables are laid with table cloth but not yours...why the double standard lah? ;D

    1. LOL! I think our table was just vacated and the staff were clearly too busy to put on a fresh tablecloth. In fact I did not even notice until you pointed it out hah..hah...

  5. Wow, 4 dishes for 2 persons, we normally order 3 dishes for 3 of us, unless we are hungry, then 4 dishes. Not many places offer venison dish, I like the ginger scallion venison at my usual Dai Chow restaurant, very tender.

  6. Wah, so much food. Good for big eaters. ๐Ÿ‘I would love to eat that steamed egg tofu. Ya, things are back to pre pandemic times already. Everyone is eating out casually without any fear now.

    1. Now that the SOPs will be further relaxed, things would feel normal (like pre-pandemic), or shall I say not so normal after 2 years hah..hah...

  8. As you could easily guess that we often entertained guests to dine there. I would say that all their dishes are very delicious and their wok hei fried rice always impressed the guests the most. Some would say it was the best fried rice which you could try. The portion is too much for 2 persons.

I can say that famous WeeChooKeong goes there at least once a week! He greeted me sawadee kap and I was on the clouds. Heeheehee
