Of all the restaurants I have visited at The Starling, my all time favorite is still Pho Vietz. There is something light and refreshing about Vietnamese fare and the food at Pho Vietz suites my taste.
Last year they introduced a meat free menu.
I tried the Stir Fried Basil with Soy Chicken Rice Set.
It was delicious.
I found the veggie spring roll very much to my liking.
Encouraged by this dish, I returned for the Stir Fried Lemongrass with Soy Chicken Rice Set.
I'm afraid this one was not as successful.
The lemongrass was overpowering and the dish had a grainy gritty feel. I did not enjoy it at all.
Fortunately, the veggie spring roll was still as good.
Another day I had a sudden craving for pork belly. Oops! Not so healthy.
So so good! Savory with a slightly sweetish taste. I was very satisfied. But felt a tad guilty hee..hee...
To atone for the fatty porkilicious indulgence, I returned for the vermicelli salad with lemongrass chicken. I added on a side of pork skewers. Yummeh!
I enjoyed the salad so much that I came back for the one with grilled pork belly. Oopss! (again) heh..heh...
This time with a side of vege spring roll. They were good except that they were not properly drained and hence very oily.
If there is any other complaint, it is that the dipping sauce is too sweet. I wish that they would dial down on the sugar.
I usually don't order drinks because most drinks are too sweet for me (unless if they have black coffee, no sugar) but I was thirsty. Yes, this Lemongrass Ginger drink was a tad sweet but very refreshing.
On my most recent visit, I had the vermicelli salad with stir fried beef. Mmmphh!!!

So far, Pho Vietz has been consistently good, so I trust they will stay on and continue to do well.
Everything looked delicious. No wonder you like this place.
ReplyDeleteOh my, big chunk of pork. I like spring roll but I also don't fancy oily and greasy rolls.
Most of the time the rolls are properly drained and not oily.
Deleteahhh ... luscious pork belly with egg and lots of thick gravy for the rice - how to resist :D they say that the leanest cuts of pork are the most nutrient-dense ... wish it were the fattier cuts ;)
ReplyDeleteWe do need fats for absorption of vitamins A, D, E, K. I am sure that helps. LOL!
Deleteunfortunately Pho Vietz is no longer around in my neighbourhood….so sad! I wish they could stay longer so that I can try all the food above...
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. Maybe you can try at other branches.
DeleteWah, you try so many dishes. Everytime I eat at Pho Vietz, I eat almost the same dish from a pool of about 6 to 8 dishes only. Good that you like their vegetarian options.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots more I tried but haven't written about :)
DeleteI am sure i will feel satisfied after eating the porl belly with the rice. The bowl of rice looks big, my kind of meal. I love refreshing drinks.
ReplyDeleteIt was a meal that put a big smile on my face hee..hee..
DeleteDidn't like the one in Miri, loved the one in Kuching - I will have to try the ones in KL next...for my final decision. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, awaiting your verdict LOL!
DeleteI love Vietnamese food but hubby not a fan because he doesn't like basil.
ReplyDeleteThat was the general complaint that I hear from people who dislike basil and therefore turn away from Vietnamese cuisine.
DeleteI like how you atoned for your indulgence in pork belly (one of the few things we don't share the same love for)...with an added order on the side of pork skewers! ;D Well, you can always be like Britney Spears and go....oops, I did it again! :P If they can do the vermicelli with lemongrass chicken well, I wonder why they can't replicate the flavours with the lemongrass and soy chicken rice set.
ReplyDeletehee..hee... The pork skewers were less fatty and yet so flavorful. The lemongrass soy chicken tasted like asam pedas gone wrong, too much lemongrass. Since you dislike basil, I take it that Vietnamese is not your favorite.
DeleteI love their pho and banh mi too! Happy Chinese New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteI tried the banh mi and I loved it too!
DeleteRestaurants in The Starling came & gone, hopefully this Pho Vietz can stay longer, at least until I have chance to try them out :P
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe that they will stay as they are always full during peak makan times.
DeleteI am surprised that you voted Pho Vietz! I would prefer Nam Heong and Thai Tuk Tuk. I just love strong taste and flavours so the Viet food is delicious too.
ReplyDeleteI am back!
Welcome back TM! Hope you had a good CNY. I still enjoy Mr Tuk Tuk and am happy to note that they are now on Grabfood!
DeleteHi LL.....semakin lemak dan berminyak semakin sedaplah ditekak sebenarnya hihi.... yang penting perut happy gituuuu....
ReplyDeleteBetul tu Hainom. LL suka makanan yang goreng2 dan sedikit berlemak. Baru sedap!
