Date Nite@Restoran Yik Kee TTDI

One evening, my partner suggested that we go to a restaurant in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) for our Friday dinner. We hardly venture to TTDI even though it is so near us.

Anyway, I agreed as we had run out of places to go at Damansara Uptown. My partner is not very adventurous when it comes to food, hence our limited choices. He likes Chinese food, rice with dishes, you get the drift.

So there we were at Restoran Yik Kee, a very typical Chinese restaurant much like Sam You. We were handed a menu each and just as quickly, the server came to take our orders.

I did not have enough time to flip through the menu and since my partner has been here before, he suggested some dishes with the help of the server. As usual, we ordered 4 dishes. For drinks, we shared the lou han gou, something my partner enjoys.

I would have preferred it cold but since my partner likes it warm, I gave in to his preference.

Since he was in a playful mood, I asked him to hold the spoon so that I could photograph the contents of the drink. It was quite a nice drink, not too sweet but I thought the lemon was out of place.

My favorite condiments - minced garlic and chili padi. I helped myself to quite a lot of the chilies and my partner suggested that I should empty the container, take a photo and tell everyone what I did hah...hah....

First dish to arrive was this claypot chicken. Sorry I don't know the proper names of all the dishes. It is one of their signature dishes and it was very good.

The chicken was fresh and succulent. It was cooked just right and we enjoyed this dish very much. I believe those green bits of vegetables (besides the spring onions) is basil though the taste was not prominent.

Next up was the deep fried tofu with minced meat, another signature dish. It was nice enough and it was all right to me.

The sweet and sour fish fillets were very tasty and I noted that the fish was not battered and deep fried. It was fine by me and it was another favorite for me that evening.

For veggies, I could not resist these baby French beans.

It was a very nice meal and I told my partner that we should come back. As we were leaving, my partner was very cooperative and asked if I wanted to pose with the signboard so that I could share it with you guys wahahaha!! Of course I want the signboard but without me lah.

Well, I want to eat here again though parking can be quite a pain. In fact we had to park a short distance away and walked over. But that's OK. A bit of exercise before and after dinner is good, eh?

  2. Yeah her partner offered to snap her full picture with the signboard but she refused! You could at least leave your Jepun selipar there with the signboard as your trademark. Haiks.

The food is so good?? I often see this place as crowded till the door at dinner hours. I must go and try the claypot chicken. Next time you better not bojio me!! I will scream.

  3. I like all the food and the shared drink both of you ordered. This time, I noticed both of you ordered only 4 dishes. Not as many as before. Good, eating in moderation now.

  5. This is the branch of the famous Yik Kee in Karak...known for its steamed patin fish, sang har meen and all things durian (then, don't know about now). I stopped by once or twice (at their original Karak branch) usually after a trip to Genting (but that was a long time ago). Ordering four dishes for the two of you is not a problem as the portions are very small leh.

    1. I did not know the origins until I saw it on their poster. I like the food here and this will be a regular dinner venue I hope.

  7. Claypot chicken or pork here would have lots of dry chili and salted fish too. Can't eat, even though we like, got soy sauce, not gluten free. I wish they would not coat with batter, the fish for sweet and sour - they use the box flour, wheat...not gluten free so another dish we cannot order. :(

  9. ooo, personally i prefer exploring ttdi compared to damansara uptown (though understandably, i guess uptown is more convenient for you since you work there). i like ttdi's sense of open space, with different areas to check out, whereas uptown just feels too congested for me, and even though everything is relatively 'centralised,' it's cumbersome to walk from one end to the other. oh well, guess i just like residential areas more, heh :)

    1. I agree that TTDI has a lot more choices with many types of cuisines available.

  10. I wish we had the type of Chinese restaurants here, other than the hum-drum same old...same old just average ones that we frequently visi! Although we have awesome Japanese sushi places, and great Thai foods, but not a very creative Chinese place to eat like you have. So lucky, I envy you, Phong Hong!

  11. I agree with you that it was a nice meal but four dishes for the two of you only seems like quite a lot, did you all finish all the food? Hahaha, your partner seems quite fun loving actually

  12. I guess the chicken dish most probably is 3 cup chicken. For any fish fillet dishes, I'll prefer non-battered too.
